For safety reasons you should prioritize strength training before cardio, and structure your cardio around your strength training. Attempting to start a strength workout when you're already fatigued from your cardio is a recipe for disaster. Stick with free weights rather than machines. Follow a program such as the…

Quizno's > Subway. Never lived in a place that had Blimpie's so I can't comment. We also have a few Jimmy John's locations downtown, but they're really inconvenient to get to unless you have business that takes you downtown. That being said, since every Quizno's in the area closed down over the last couple years, so all…

The benefactors are ISPs such as Comcast and the Washington folks they have in their pockets who will actually approve of this nonsense.

Telecommunication companies went belly up because they felt that the monopoly they held gave them free reign to charge unreasonably prices for what were originally considered luxuries, but had become necessities because of how the world had changes. It wasn't very long before the internet provided people with free or cheap…

I like doing circuits that revolve around the rotational lunge using a 50 or so lb sandbag.

Basically they're talking about bringing the internet back down to dialup speeds from broadband deliberately in order to get an excuse to create a bigger profit margin. And if you want faster access, then it's up to the person hosting the site--whether it's MFP, Amazon, whatever, to pay a fee to YOUR internet provider (not…

If they take forever to put my order together, does it still count?

Agreed. If strength increases are THAT important to you, a program like Insanity isn't going to cut the mustard. You need to be doing a program that emphasizes strength training above all else. bodybuilding.com has a bunch. For home use, ones like Athlean-X or P90X are not bad.

I'm the exact opposite. I can't work out on a totally empty stomach or I get nauseous.
-
In those cases people lost fat, which just revealed the muscle they already have. Also, you will lose pullup strength following any program that doesn't have you doing pullups. Insanity does not have you doing pullups.
-
It depends on where you're coming from. People who transition to Insanity from primarily strength training based programs (such as P90X, Body Beast, or conventional gym based workout programs) do typically see decreases in measurable strength and lean mass when doing Insanity, though not THAT significant. However, coming…

Working in splits is generally only ideal for people who: A. Are at an intermediate to advanced level (beginners, regardless of goal, ALWAYS see greater benefit from full body workouts) B. Are training more for aesthetic gains (such as significant muscle mass gain) than functional (people concerned with functional strength…

I used to actively play and sold my 95m SP toon. Been skilling up another since. He's currently up to 25m. Thinking of selling him too. As much as I enjoy EVE, MMOs in general are simply too much of a time sink to really give me a chance to get out and enjoy life. Realizing that I was committing to 3+ hours of time every…

Eat a meal that's enough to leave you satisfied but not full. What you're eating doesn't matter so much. I know that I'm no good first thing in the mornings. I need some food in me.

Cardio should be done after, primarily for safety reasons. You need to be totally fresh (minus a warmup) when you start your strength workout.

I want to second DeliriumCanbeFun's statement here. I used to supplement my strength/circuit workouts with jump rope as well. I started laying off the jump rope a while back but kept up with the strength training and it became a LOT harder to keep control of my weight without restricting calories to the point where I felt…

Adding muscle, regardless of whether or not you are at the level of someone who can call themselves a bodybuilder, follows the same basic set of rules. Gradually increase the weight, little by little every workout, while doing low-rep sets (single-digit amounts). For bodyweight based exercises, use leverage tricks, such as…
-
For actual muscle building you will need to follow a progressive program. That means you will need a much bigger selection of weights. Much, much bigger. Hypertrophy weight range of 8-12 reps.

Your best bet is youtube. Tons of good stuff on youtube. Netflix, not so much.

Hanging leg raise Mason Twist Dragon Flag (maybe beyond you) Deadlift Squat Clean Overhead press (this one is a biggie for the core!)

Pretty much this. Once you get to a point where you can hold a plank for about a minute, you're not really accomplishing anything at all by continuing to do it for longer duration other than training endurance--and being very inefficient about how you go about it in the process. If you want to continue to strengthen it…

I am limited my how long I can hold my breath because I can't breathe while in a plank position.

I've never taken the class but I have the unit (two actually) and tons of the videos for it. It was my main tool in getting fit.

The last FF game I played and completed was 7. I played 8 and 10 also but the gameplay kept getting more linear and less inspiring each one. Like they were dumbing things down each release. A buddy of mine said the same things were true of 12 and 13.

I listen to a couple things before the workout (one of which is almost always Warriors of the World United by Manowar), but nothing actually DURING the workout. I find it's a lot harder to keep form or feel my muscles working properly when I have music on.

Doritos. With cheese.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "toning" in this context. But as long as you're only doing cardio and not adding in legitimate muscle building techniques, the only thing you can do is keep on burning the fat until you eventually start revealing the muscle that's underneath somewhere. Add some actual strength training…

I think it's pretty cheap as long as you're not looking for stuff that's pre-cooked/already prepared. Be prepared to spend time in the kitchen, and buy ingredients to actually cook your food.

So, your first foray into the forums as a member of the site is to resurrect a 2 year old thread about a subject that has been beaten to death and personally attack one of the site's most well respected members. Hi, nice to meet you. You're going to make a lot of friends here.

The only exercise I've ever attempted to gauge my 1RM using is the bench press. I've always worked out alone and you can't gauge 1RM without a spotter/partner, which I've never had. My 1RM was 165 and that was a long time ago.
