Well, I guess there is a benefit to "running" late in the morning. Thanks for including your resource BrianSharpe

Ah Ha! will do! I was discounting time, not distance.... Googling...

Don't know? Because I don't have an HRM so don't know if I'm actually burning more calories on the run. Heart rate is more elevated on a run, but for a shorter amount of time, less elevated on a walk, but for a longer time. Just wondering if it is a wash?

Oooo! Deep, now I'm going to have to rethink my answer.

Holy Cow! Ouch!!!! It's really hard not to listen to your family, but it sounds like they've got skewed expectations. Focus on a healthy you, and let them all sod off.

The good news is you don't have to be perfect, you just have to be better. ++Track for a week or two before worrying about losing. This way you'll see where you really stand odds are it is different than where you thought you were, which is actually good news... ++Be scrupulously honest... you can lie to your friends, you…

I'm 5' 6.5" I can't seem to get below 141 whatever I do I can't seem to MAINTAIN below 145... but that's okay I'm happiest anywhere between 145-150 Where ever you are comfortable. I figure... 1) I want to live a reasonable life where food is not all consuming.. I want the time and energy to do awesome things. So If I'm not…

Also age makes a BIG difference. Make sure you use a calculator that accounts for age when figuring out your TDEE. I basically never adjusted my eating habit for my age and slowly put on 50 lbs in the 30 years since H.S.

Remember, it's an either or deal. If you set you level to *active* (or not sedentary) AND log all of your exercise MFP will give you more calories than you need. I like to set my activity level to sedentary and log all of my exercise. That way I can see how little things add up. It also tracking my norms encourages me to…

I was 48 or 49 when I started here. I still touch base here once in a while to keep on track with maintenance. I took the low and slow approach to losing and it's worked pretty well. Coming from Africa maybe you don't have any of the usual U.S. food hang-ups but this is what worked for me. A bit long-winded... sorry. The…

I have 3 stick thin sisters and was always the chunky one. I always knew "More of you to love" was code for fat. My sister's took after my Dad's side of the family. On the other hand my Mom was always over weight and was very supportive when as a teen I decide to lose weight. Grateful that she taught me healthy eating…

True, it's tough, much harder than losing I think. I really glad it occurred to me gradually increase my calories when losing my last 10 lbs so that I was eating near maintenance when I reached my goal. (Okay MFP gives me 1600 cal to Maintain 140 lb @ 50 y.o., but eating 1500 and I'm maintaining 145-148 lbs, which is well…

Mostly I think this LOW-CARB thing is just an overreaction to the LOW-FAT thing. When everyone was eliminating fat they replace it with carbs... So now carbs are the enemy... Now let's see our macros are: CARBS - FAT - PROTEINS Now, that means all food fall's into at least 1 of those 3 categories, many foods are a…

Because I like to get 3 workouts in a week and... 1) I'm not a morning person, and 2) the gym is closed by the time I get out of work, and 3) I only get a 1/2 hour lunch, so I'll skip lunch break 2x a week so I can take an hour and go to the gym 2x a week

I am 86% lower than the other US women 30-44, and 63% lower than the rest of the world. If everyone in the world had the same BMI as you, it would remove 6,150,448 tonnes from the total weight of the world's population

welcome, I think this is a great way to track your nutrition... I try to focus on how much nutritional bang you get for your calorie. Getting proper nutrition so reduces my cravings.
-
I tried logging before, but I never stuck with what I logged.. So I edited as things changed. While I was losing "log as you go" worked best for me. Being trying different strategies in maintenance... logging at the end of the day... so i learn better how to balance healthy food and treats on the fly.

I'll check that out when I get home.

the chart is from the world health organization, which bases it these categories on a variety of HEALTH. factors Trainers use a different chart, which does not account for age. Think about it, it's how they sell there services. 1) They want to acheive more extreme results so they can show you their track record of…

Okay, my weight loss is not as drastic as yours, but I'm two and a half times your age. being over 50 I really expect more saggage, but I was pleasantly surprised. I only lost about 30 pounds, but I did do it slowly. About 15 months at a 1/2 lb a week. (actually I started out at 1 lb a week, when my MFP cal got to 1200 I…

Set your activity level to sedentary and log all of your activity. I found it very motivational to see what I accomplished and to up bit by bit. It also feels really good to see your progress over the long-term. I'm all about small sustainable changes and working good habits into your life style little by little so you…

this helped me ++Rather than being uberstrict with the target MFP set for me. (I swear this saved my life.) I was happier once I gave myself a range: ROCK BOTTOM: 1200 cal TARGET: MFP Calories for lose 1 lb a week (when that hit 1200 I changed to lose 1/2 lb per week) TOP OF RANGE: Maintain Calories for my GOAL…

Keep in mind that sugar* AND artificial sweeteners increase your appetite... I find it much more difficult to stay in my calorie range if I over indulge in candy or drink a diet, yes DIET soda. *I worry less about the sugar in fruit. I read an article about how your body processes it differently because it is naturally…
