Started at 42 and 225 lbs 5' 10" tall. Now 2 years later I'm at 165 lbs, and running almost daily. I got into it gradually. I found a local high school track, which is quarter mile around. I walked 1 lap, jogged 1 lap, walked 1 lap, jogged 1 lap, etc. until I had done 4 laps total jogging and 5 laps total walking. Made it…

There are 2 great apps that synch to MyFitnessPal. Both are from a company called Runtastic. One is for sit-ups and one is for push-ups. It will give you 5 sets of situps or push-ups, and tell you how many in the first set, second set, etc. It counts them for you also using motion sensors and proximity sensors already in…

Amen. I used to be a processed foods junkie. I made the switch over a period of a couple of months to going with whole foods, and now I rarely buy any food from the inside aisles of the store. At first, my body and taste buds didn't like things like kale, brussell sprouts, celery, tomatoes, etc., but after a week or two,…

Here's my take. Any time I'm coming off of a "couch potato" phase, whether it is a year of inactivity to a few weeks of inactivity, the key is to get into it slowly. If your first day of exercise pushes you too hard, you will be sore for days, and that affects your motivation to exercise the next day. For example, 3 weeks…

If you are a couch potato, make sure you start training now, but get into it slowly. I started by running 5 times a week. Started with 1 mile each time the first week,…

If he doesn't have time or motivation to exercise, he'll need to work on portion control, and go for smaller meals/snacks more often throughout the day. He should try not to eat right before bed. Bringing food from home to work might help, especially if he usually ends up eating at fast food restaurants during the day, but…

I'd say amend your log and log the deep fried ice cream. If you do the denial thing (I'm guilty of it), and don't log it, it doesn't mean that you didn't ingest it. The calorie log is for your benefit, and you don't get punished if you go over. To make up for it, try to go under your calorie target for the next few days.…

Thanks for the suggestions. Now that I've logged my food for my first day, I can better see how to use the website to plan meals. I saw that I had 650 calories left for dinner, and I decided I wanted to eat at Chili's for dinner. Using their nutritional information menu on the Chili's site in conjunction with this site…
