Aloha from Oahu where you never need winter gear!

I too feel vulnerable without a mirror. Have a great one on the end of my flat bar Hardrock but am moving to a drop bar road bike and trying to decide which format I want. Have run across many cyclists who think they're very uncool but I drive a hybrid car. That sucker is QUIET! If you depend on hearing a hybrid come up…

I use RunKeeper on my Android Smartphone. Straightforward and free. At the moment, it's all I need.

oh now that's pretty ridiculous... MFP changed one of my COMPLETELY appropriate verbs to "****" since it CAN be used as a crude noun. Assume context much MFP?

I tend to hold tension in my wrist, thumbs and right shoulder while I ride. I spent some time adjusting my seat correctly-that helped. I try to give myself "cues" every now and again on my rides to 1)drop my shoulder and 2)engage my core, which takes some weight off of my hands. Concentrate on keeping a slight bend in your…

Thank you for the inspiration, Ladies!

Great inspiration. Thank you Ladies!

Thanks for the advice, All! Just printed out "Fitting Your Bike" from the REI site and am headed out to the garage for some tweaking and then a ride. Also getting back to yoga for knee strengthening. I've found a good LBS here and will get in soon for a real fitting. In the '90's I paid close attention to my cadence and…

Bump for Abbreviations! Thanks Robin_Bin!

Bump. Just weighed the bike at 42 pounds... no wonder I'm working hard.

And at the risk of annoying folk, I absolutely disagree that sugar isn't bad or not worth worrying about. EVERYTHING bad that happens in the human body feeds on sugar! Sugar stresses your organs. Sugar feeds cancer. Sugar messes with your chemistry. Sugar makes you want MORE.... It's ALL bad. Not neutral. Bad. At the very…

I have a wicked sweet tooth! The key for me was slowing re-training my palate, lowering carbs and tweaking some supplements. I also try to pay attention to the foods that trigger binge eating, since that triggers my sweet tooth too. I'm allergic to most artificial sweeteners so that was never an option. A few years ago I…

EVERYBODY has a different view on protein powder. It's a crazy hot button with some people so be prepared for a lot of confusing opinions. I like whey (concentrate) powder because it's quick, easy protein but try not to overuse it because of the high carb count. My protein powder is organic from grass-fed cows because…

I use Moving Comfort bras and love them. Check out Amazon.com for good prices. I also got one on ebay ( brand new without tags) for a great deal. For workout pants my all time favorites are Lands End Performance Active pants. I have them in long and crop length. I've worn these pants non-stop for about 5 years. They still…

Bump cuz my *kitten* is killing me.

LOL We used to live in Great Bridge-I know of whom you speak! That man rides EVERYWHERE! I've run across him (not run over him) way far away. He rides to and from work. I'm not sure he even owns a car. That's a great bike shop too. My husband bought his Cattrike there. Good people.

I've only used RunKeeper. Could anyone tell me what other apps have the RK lacks? I love it for the price (free) and simplicity. The only lacks are things that can't be factored in with anything else either-wind, traffic stops, etc. If you used RK and moved on, why?

Outstanding info. Thank you!

I too would like to see OPEN DIARIES of those eating between 1200 and 1500 calories per day. Also would really like to see a few who are a) tracking sugar (the sugar counts on some of these are huge but they're not being tracked) and b) trying to keep carbs under 125. I've looked at what's posted so far (some of these are…

I'm on Oahu (in housing on Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam) and usually cycle for exercise. Anyone starting up an Oahu Group?

Agree with brower47 re:fiber. I stopped using bananas in my smoothies since the sugar, carbs and calories were torpedoing my Food Diary. AND my smoothies just made me hungrier. Then I started using about 1/3 of an avocado instead of the banana. I scoop out all the avocado into a bowl, take 1/3 of it and add it to my…

Hoping to BUMP into Amanda...

Gosh everybody, thanks for the show. It has everything. I laughed. I cried. I'm cornering the market on water pills and laxatives because SURELY sales will skyrocket as a result of this topic... and don't forget the Spanx.

I'm a big fan of Arnold's "weak point" training so you might want to look at his method. "Good Mornings" work well for my lower back. I know from my own lifting that my "weak point" is also where I tend to hold my stress. That manifested itself while I was lifting and would cause pain/soreness. Any lift that was new or too…

I too have always had insomnia! But when I went gluten-free suddenly I was falling asleep like a regular person. Now I'm mostly grain-free and rarely have a sleepless night.

I've always had thick ankles but something that REALLY helped was skin brushing. One of the pleasant surprise benefits of daily, dry skin brushing was my ankles slimmed way down. I heartily recommend adding it to anyone's daily routine!

On the Synthroid I got a choking feeling all the time and a build up of tissue over my thyroid. Also, low libido and no real relief from symptoms. The Armour Thyroid took care of all that.
-
I've taken both Synthroid and Armour Thyroid. I FINALLY got a doctor willing to give me a script for Armour Thyroid last year. It works so much better for me! I had some crappy side effects with the Synthroid. I hated taking it. I'm much happier on the Armour! I'd recommend reading:…

Whenever possible I use the calories burned from the actual readout on the machine. It's not perfect but chances are it will be fairly consistent. There are so many types of machines that the general counts in this database are just guidelines. For instance the "treadelater" treadmills (with 2 belts going up and down) burn…
