  • Had to edit this out. Didn't see the previous posts! :)
  • Same thing happened to me. I was put on Metformin, 1000mg twice a day. It is rare that a person on Met experiences lows (below 70), but it does happen in some who have become less insulin resistant with weight loss, let alone exercise. My BGs dipped into the 40s a couple of times and began to stay in the 60s more often…
  • I was put on Metformin (1000 mg twice a day) when I was diagnosed with diabetes, type 2, back in September. I think I had to work up to the dosage for a week, however. My A1C was a 10.5, and my fasting blood sugar was a 317. My doctor said that I can take vitamin supplements with it, but I couldn't mix fish oil and…
  • I LOVE Yucca! I used to eat what my culture calls Vianda. Just peel it like a potatos, cut it into 1 inch circles, boil for 10 minutes. It will be harder than a potato. Put extra virgin olive oil on it, and salt if you like. We used to put other vegetables in that pot. It's great with avocado and cod. Of course, I can't…
  • It's not a good number, it's a Great number. It is my understanding from extensive research that the best numbers are 83 - 88 before, during, after meals, all day, everyday. Incredible job!
  • Nooooo!!! Only one reckless person per forum, please. :D Truly awesome news. I know you have worked remarkably hard. (And that's an understatement). Are we going for the 4% club next?
  • Agreed. Quite the amazing feat, my friend. I sent you a message. Be encouraged.
  • Wow, Aussie, I could just dry with happiness for you. That is the best news, truly. And, I know how hard you have worked. You are doing such a fabulous job. Just keep doing what you're doing.and, you will be able to keep it up because you know what works for you. Great job!

  • I'm not so concerned about the calories so much. I try to keep it under 1400, usually around 1200 for now And then I'll bump it up to 1400 - 1500 for a day or so and then I'll go back down ( just to keep it interesting). Every once in a while I'll go up to 1800. It's just that I've noticed that long long long term keto-ers…
  • Only before diagnosis.. that is, before I got my BGs under control. As soon as that happened, haven't had a problem at all. Yeast infections occur when your blood sugar is uncontrolled .. it can be a sign of the body fighting another infection in the body. When your blood sugar is controlled, you will find a host of things…
  • That's why I chose the shrimp! lol!
  • Flourless Almond pancakes! Flourless Almond Bread! Flourless Almond Muffins!
  • Bob, I truly appreciate that. I'm tenacious because I have to be; this disease has killed in the most horrible fashion many of my family members I was very close to. Still, I am by no means an expert. I'm still a baby, very new to this. I was fortunate to have stumbled upon people who were able to direct me to the above…

  • I've only been low-carbing (very low carbing) for 4 and a half months, now. The body gets used to a certain amount of carbs (fascinating machine) and you have to change things up during a stall. Listen to your body and keep it guessing.
  • Nothing over 88 is acceptable to me. I'm still working on it.
  • Agreed! That bloodsugar101.com site helped me so much! I, too, don't see anything wrong with staying on the Metformin. The benefits outweigh the risks, imho.
  • I thought that was interesting, too -- especially when I cut down on the carbs.
  • The shrimp sounds fabulous.
  • I've been doing keto successfully for 4 months with amazing results. There is a keto support group on MFP. Do a search in the group section.
  • Amazing.. just amazing. I get all teary-eyed when these things happen. Since diagnosed with diabetes, I think of all of you as my family. :) Bree
  • Watch the melatonin. It increases blood sugar. I just started on Magnesium a bit ago.. I'm not sure I've been taking it long enough to see the effects, yet. Also, there has been a lot of change in the last 2 weeks, so I'm not sure if I'd notice anyway. I'd be interested to hear what others have to say about magnesium and…
  • Dry red wines like merlot and cabernet sauvignon, also vodka. Those may cause some lows, but they will not cause any highs. (I've only tried the dry red wines.)
  • Absolutely. The book is called, 'The Diabetes Solution' by Dr. Richard Bernstein. I'll message you with the rest as it is lengthy.
  • VLCHF diet stands for Very Low Carb High Fat (moderate protein) diet. I stumbled upon it the first time at http://www.diabetesforum.com Within a week, my blood sugars came down from the 300s to the double digits. Interestingly enough, the weight just literally fell off. I had been trying to diet for so long with no real…
  • I know what you mean. I'm so grateful for VA benefits here in the states, and that I have such an understanding doctor who allows me to have 500 strips a month, along with the free meter. I don't know what I would do if I could only test a few times a day, or not at all. I do know that it would take great effort to get my…
  • Amazing job. That takes great dedication. Absolutely wonderful!
  • I have read that we are entitled to the same blood sugars as non-diabetics and that the ADA does not suggest it because they think it is too hard for us. The actual normal range of a healthy non-diabetic is 83 to 88 before, during, and after meals, everyday with an A1c of 4.2 to 4.8 (or 4.6). That's tight control. I don't…
