been on it since November (slight derailment around the holidays, but back on track now!) I have lost about 25 lbs total and feel really really good! I am doing some days a little less restrictive, the regular Mcdougall plan in the Starch Solutions book, but most days keeping it super simple..potatoes, salads, rice,…

SO glad to have peeps here who understand :) That thread may have been reported...not saying it was for sure but it "may" have been *whistles innocently* I really have never encountered this much negativity over my diet until I dropped the dairy and eggs, and I dont even really talk about the ethical side of things to…

that has to be uncooked

Several sources I checked say it has 222 calories per CUP of plain COOKED quinoa http://nutritiondata.self.com/facts/cereal-grains-and-pasta/10352/2 It will of course have much higher calorie count for uncooked as it swells and 1/4 cup UNCOOKED makes almost A CUP COOKED? I LOVE it, and use it often as I would rice

I think my skin needs to thicken up a bit more

I know it just makes me so  that they dont have consequences for ppl who continually post that stuff. Maybe its the meat that makes them so venomous

Never said the movie was 100% accurate, just that one womans blog is not what I would call "research" No need to be so defensive. I watched the movie, have read several books about establishing a good healthy vegan diet ..my diet is almost completely whole foods..I use very few processed things..such as mustard in my salad…

I hardly call one womans blog..however passionate and well written it may be, research...its opinion. Me I have never felt better in my life than I do now without animal products in my diet

Second on Dr McDougall's website also try the fat free vegan blog. My personal favorite dressings are fresh salsa, or 3 parts vinegar, 2 parts mustard (dijon) more or less to taste, 1 part maple syrup or agave I use different vinegars to change it up (fruit flavored ones are awesome)

Those are the wrong kind of carbs. My diet is plant-based and therefore mostly carbs. I have oatmeal in the morning with fruit and I am not hungry for hours, some rice, beans, and veggies at lunch and usually not hungry till dinner.

Got one of the DVDs for Christmas but haven't tried it yet...

I had a similar experience recently...over the holidays I had some dairy after not touching it for several months, and I had severe stomach cramps as well. I figure it was my body telling me not to eat it anymore

Check out Forks over Knives, Engine 2 diet, Dr. McDougall..all good sound advice for plant based diet. this may help too.. http://www.jeffnovick.com/RD/Newsletter/Entries/2012/5/20_A_Common_Sense_Approach_To_Sound_Nutrition.html When I first read that it was like a light bulb going off for me!

I have never heard of that...and I had no issues of the sort (i am 42 now) My guess would be that its the start of menopause, I know my mother went several years where she would have regular periods for a month or 2 then skip a few then have it again...it can cause you to be very irregular as your body changes

homemade veggie burgers, and a giant salad :)

I have all but given up on most of the forums here because of all the people screaming about how you need so much protein and carbs are so evil rhetoric...cant even have a conversation with people here about it because they are so brainwashed over it.

I haven't been able to get mine off since I gained wt with my last pregnancy, they have been stuck on for 5 years. But now that I've lost a little they feel looser. The day I can take them off will be a huge NSV I think . Instead of having them resized I plan to have my diamonds reset into a new set when I reach my goal

soy beans, edemame are high fat, as are peanuts, technically a legume not a nut.

I love avocados and nuts as well. Recently I cut back on them and limit myself to a small serving occasionally. I also use no added fats in my diet. I eat very low fat because of health related concerns.

Also the Engine 2 diet...any of the ppl in FoK ..they all have books and facebook pages with plenty of free info

If you haven't seen it yet, watch "Forks over Knives" it is all about healing common health problems through the plant based diet. there is TONS of information at the related websites as well. I am following Dr Macdougall's plan personally. (This sort of thing is why you get people saying "vegan" is the wrong term BTW...to…

The problem is the giant feed lots and feeding animals that would naturally graze on grass an unnatural diet of grains, mostly corn. The desire for meat (and I am speaking largely of the USA of which I am most familiar) has grown so from 60 yrs ago or so that where livestock is raised hardly resembles a farm anymore, its a…
-
Far more land is used to produce grain for livestock in feed lots than goes directly to human consumption. Enough so that the world hunger problem could be all but eliminated if the grain used to feed livestock went to feeding humans. (not letting the animals starve, but not having feed lots in the first place and not…

A lot of vegan cheese is kind of...meh. But I love daiya brand shreds...yummy!!

I was vegetarian for about 4 years before I went vegan. For me it was both health and moral reasons. Giving up meat was a lot easier than I expected personally. I armed myself with a lot of good recipes and began to experiment in the kitchen more. Packaged veggie burgers and other mock meats are ok and pretty tasty, but…

For me personally that much protein did not work for weight loss...my diet used to be very protein heavy when I tried things like weight watchers or other "traditional" diet plans. now eating plant based and not worrying about the macros for the first time in many years I am losing weight without feeling deprived and…

and calling me narrow minded because I only addressed the guidelines related to my personal experience well. I am done discussing anything with you. Good day

Sorry...I meant to say you burn carbs then fat stores, protein is used as fuel as a last resort because its function is muscle building and repair not fuel. We need an edit button for the overtired....
