  • Thanks! I'll check out your site. I find that 5:2 appeals to me more than than the other methods I read about so far. I've been trying a version of 5:2 out for a couple weeks & enjoy it. Yesterday was my first day with lower protein but I was a bit high at 18g. Wonderful results, BTW! You obviously work hard at it!
  • What I've read is that there needs to be more research regarding women and IF BUT...It appears that overweight & obese women reap benefits from IF but those women at a healthy weight may not and, in fact, may do harm if they practice IF regularly. I have not been able to find info comparing different methods of IF that…
  • While generally true, there are exceptions to that rule, one being newbies.
  • OP, you might want to try the keto-calculator (should come up first if you google it) to determine your correct calories using your stats & activity level. It will also help you determine the best amount of protein, fat, and carbs. It seems to work well for most people.
  • Not sure. Depends who is chasing me...
  • I actually lost more than usual over the holidays. lol...
  • My persnal experience is that the scale goes up when I am sleep deprived. The scale doesn't tell thevreal story though. The tape measure sayxs more I lose fewer inches when I don't get enough sleep regularly. A sleep-deprived month means not-so-good monthly fat losses. This is even if I am eating 100% on plan, no excess…
  • I don't recall how long it took me to lose 30 lbs. I've lost close to 4 times that much by now. I eat right, workout, get plenty of sleep, and the fat burns off. It is not really the best plan to make scale weight time-based goals. They very often fail because you can do everything correct & the scale might not say what…
  • I'm not sure what the max would be that I could eat. I've never tried (and have no desire to) adding more carbs to see how many I can eat w/o gaining. The amount I eat varies & I never worry about it because my carbs are almost all from vegetables. I've lost a lot & am still losing. Grains make me ache & I don't eat…
  • I don't combine them at all. They are on opposite ends of the spectrum, so to speak. Which do you want more? Lose weight & look & feel good? Get drunk & feel bad but get an invite to AA?
  • Good post. I agree.
  • It is unrealistic and trying will almost certainly lead to loss of muscle. your plan is what is called overdieting. Extremely low calories & too much exercise.
  • Welcome, asn0211! MFP is a great way to keep track! Eat the amount of calories that the keto calculator tells you. It is a pretty good calculator. No matter what the ratio is, very low calories will cause loss of muscle. The calculator also helps you determine how many grams of protein, fat, and carbs you should eat.…
  • There really is not one amount that is best. I've done as much as 1.5 grams protein per body weight on a weight training/fat-burning program but I've also done 1 gram per body weight & 1 gram per LBM. They all worked great.
  • It is not one or the other. Both matter. You can track or count anything you like but it all counts.
  • My goal for 2014 is to keep doing what I'm doing! It is working fabulously! I'm thrilled with my results in the past year & I'm very excited about 2014. I don't believe in having numbers (scale, BF%, size, etc) for goals. I want to look & feel good. Those things are not numbers.
  • Same here. I came in a few under on calories. The holidays are not getting a chance to mess with my progress.
  • I love the idea of your Santa Slimdown Challenge! What great motivation to enjoy the treats but in moderation. It sure sounds like it is working for you! I'm so sorry for your loss.
  • Just limit the indulgences and eat lots of vegetables to fill up. Drink more water than beverages that are high in calories. I have no interest in maintaining over the holidays. I'm going to keep burning the fat off! That is what I did last year, too.
  • Yes! I caught the reflection of this woman in the mirror in the weight room at the gym & it took a second look before I realized it was me! It was very cool because I had a positive reaction to how she looked when I did not know it was me.
  • Grassfed ground beef!
  • If you can let me know! lol...
  • Calories matter but they are not all that matters. It is not just calories in/out. It is a lot more. The source of the food matters. And our bodies use calories from different foods in different ways. We even burn more calories eating some types of food than others. There is so much new information out and more all the…
  • I cut out almost all processed foods. Yes, fruit is gone, too, as are all grains. I don't need high sugar foods at all. I feel great since eliminating those things & plan to eat this way forever for the health benefits. No aches & pains, no cravings, complete control over what & how much I eat. I've also have lost a large…
  • I've never felt ugly at any weight.
  • Thanksgiving dinner was at a restaurant. I'm not sure of calories for the meal because of that but I am positive my calories for the entire day were very low; my guesstimate came to just over 1000. I did not indulge at all. The turkey, salad, and unadorned veggies were good but the meal was early & there was no food…
  • I'll be eating the same as I do regularly - no sugar, no grains, no junk - and I'll be happy about it. When I used to eat those things I had brain fog & ached all over. Why would I want to deprive myself of feeling good (not to mention looking like a completely different person!) for even one day? The junk no longer temps…
  • The number on the scale is just a measure of total weight at a given moment. It has nothing to do with how I look or feel or how healthy I am. I do not have a goal weight because "weight" is not my goal. My goal is to be the very best "me" I can be. I achieve my goal by eating healthy foods, working out regularly, and…
  • If you are losing fine then don't worry about the sugar - especially if it is from healthy foods. It is definitely something to keep an eye on though. Humans did used to get fat from eating fruit. Fruit was not available year round for our ancestors and they would load up on it instinctively when they could. They'd gain in…
