I asked my co-worker who is a certified personal trainer the same question. He told me that the yoga and pilates are good, but that weight lifting is still necessary. I tried just yoga and light cardio for a couple of months. I was convinced that would do it. It did help a lot, but I really started to notice big changes…

I had a right rotator cuff tear and tendenopothy in the left shoulder. I had both repaired with surgery. Ice, ibuprofen and rest will help, but it may take quite a while. You need to talk to your ortho about the tear though. Sometimes ice and rest is good enough, but for an athlete it might not be.

I don't log all of my exercize. I walk the dog 30-40 minutes every morning and yoga many days. I consider those activities of daily living and don't log them, just like I would not log doing the dishes at night or light house work. I set my activily level at lightly active to take those calories into account. I do log all…

You are getting a lot of sugar in prepared foods. See if you can reduce that and try more fruit instead. I usually max on sugar, but it is primarily from fruit. At least with the fruit you are getting a good bit of other nutrients and fiber with it.

I've read differing views on this. Some say you must eat before working out, other say working out after fasting burns more calories. I don't know the answer and think everyone's different. I take medicine in the morning that must be on an empty stomach. Since I don't have enough time to take it, wait, eat and then work…

I have similar problems. Up the fiber and water like everyone said. If you don't like water try something else. One thing I like is 6 -8 ounces of soda water with a couple of ounces of juice. You can find sodium free soda water and it's calorie free as well. The calories from the juice won't be too bad since it would only…

I have been informed by health care providers that drinking something with artificial sweetener will raise fasting blood sugar levels. Don't know the science behind it, but I have been told that more than once when I questioned why I could not use Truvia or other sweetener in coffee or tea before blood work. With that…

My thoughts as well. She is probably a bit envious that you are getting attention she once did. Perhaps next time she is insensitive, tell her how great you think it is that she lost so much weight and kept it. A little reinforcement of her success might be all she needs.

Bump keeps the topic in the recent posts list. Just a way of keeping it active until you get your question answered. Also puts the thread in the your topics list of the person that posted. I'm not sure how tall you are, but at any height you don't have much weight to lose. You are instead adding muscle weight. With regard…

I was diagnosed with underactive thyroid 20 years ago. In all that time, the only thing I found that boosts metabolism is moving as much as possible. Not just exercize, but staying active throughout the day. Eating several small meals helps to. If you really think it is a metabolism issue, you should check with your…

Weight loss is a little slower, but as others have said, not impossible. I have been very hypo for close to 20 years. What I finally understand is that you must treat it like any serious condition, for example diabetes. If you had diabetes, you would watch what you eat, monitor your sugar, count your calories, take you…

I'm not very good at squats either. I had a trainer a few years ago who had me use an exercize ball. You put it behind you and against the wall and use it to support you when do the squat. I find it helps me do them correctly.

This site is a great way to stay accountable. Good luck!

Wow, sorry I missed this post. I'm all for a glass of wine or beer after a tough day. Or, even a good day.

It does get better. I'm not sure if anyone else mentioned this, but I was always told if you are not using the restroom every 1-2 hours, then you are not drinking enough fluids.

Try to exercize through it. You may not always feel like it, but exercize does help. Like the others suggested, drink plenty of water and motrin or other pain medication. I agree with one of the other posts that you should insist on a blood panel to look at what might be going on. I had very similar issues and one of the…

That's an old wive's tale.

Same problem here. I have had the problem my entire life even when I ran highschool track and was at the weight all the experts said I should be at. Now I am heavier and still have a hard time getting a good fit. I find that curvy fit pants do fit me better, no matter what weight or size (wish they had been around 30 years…

Exactly!!!

I would relax and not worry about it too much. I don't always feel like eating my exercize calories either. I do try to eat about half and as long as I net 1150-1200, I'm ok with that. I'm only 5' 1" so I don't need as many as others. One other thing, maybe you are not hungry or tired because you are over estimating your…

Also try an omega 3 supplents for inflamation. Be careful and read the label to be sure you are only getting omega 3. Some fish oil has a good bit of omega 6 as well. Most people already get plenty of the omega 6.

That's why I have avoided whey so far. I am not celiac - just quite sensitive. I've gotten more sensitive over time so I'm trying to be more careful these days.

http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/4ever/isolate.html I did not see the GF notice either. Of course it might not contain GF ingredients, but still processed in a facility with wheat. It's a good start. I think I will try the cereal. I have pretty much given up cereal because the GF stuff is not very nutritious. I would love…

Thanks for the post.

I could not have said it better myself. I have one 4oz glass of wine most nights. Sometimes a bit more on Friday and Saturday. I could not do this and give up everything. I chose to keep the wine and skip sweets.

Way to go on getting that sugar down! It took me years to reduce mine to the 30-50 range. I can't drink a 12 ounce Coke anymore let alone have a Snickers with it like I did for years. That was my favorite afternoon snack - now it's fruti, yogart or some nuts. What a change we can make when we decide to do it.

The link goes to another sugar discussion http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/205737-a-sugar-dilemma This was a question I had when I first started. And if you run a search for sugar, you will see that a lot of other people also have concerns about the sugar. I did some research and most of what I found said anywhere…

There is a GF group that shares information. Use the search function to locate it. Processed/Prepared GF foods are not health food choices - that's for sure. You might try making your own cookies, etc so you can have a treat now and again. I found it was easier to give those types of foods up. Of course somtimes my…

This was a question I had when I first started. And if you run a search for sugar, you will see that a lot of other people also have concerns about the sugar. I did some research and most of what I found said anywhere from 8 - 10% of your calories can come from sugars (all types whether natural or added). Essentially sugar…
