  • Thank you. Wow. This is why I have stuck with MFP whether I'm on track with my goals or not. When you have something going on in yhour life, there are so many people willing to give a kind word, encouragement or just plain old good advice.
  • Hi Linxdiva. You really do have a lot on your plate. My husband and I don't have children, so that is both a blessing and a loss. My husband's parents are also getting to the point where they need help. Thankfully for us he has two sisters that are handling most of it. We are about two hours away so its a bit harder to…
  • Thanks for responding. I think we will hire a house cleaning service which should free up several hours a week for me. We are also hoping she will improve somewhat in a warmer climate. She is in Pittsburgh area and the winters are not doing her any good. Since she will be in my home, the savings should also allow us to pay…
  • Why do you say to limit polyunsaturated fats? My thought is the potential imbalance of Omega 3 and 6.
  • I am 51 and woul like to join the group. Thanks
  • I am gluten sensitive and when GF about 4 years ago. At first we tried to subsitute. Like this poster said, its' expensive and tastes lousy. We decided instead to go whole food for the most part. In the long run it's easier and healthier. If you must have rolls, see if you can find Chebe mix in your local grocery or on…
  • I agree with this post. It's not admitting defeat! You have to heal. I also gain weight without some exercize most days (1500 calories is about all I can eat without exercizing). Look at your diet and see if you can make one or two changes to cut out 50 or 100 calories a day. That might help you stop gaining. If you eat…
  • Almond milk is what I was going to suggest. I typically use Stevia with Silk or half and half most of the time; but, I only use 1 tbsp half and half per cup and just 1 or 2 cups a day. My husband likes a lot of milk in his so I suggested he try the almond milk to cut calories and fat. He really likes it, but sticks with…
  • I had this problem too. It really depends on the machine. Problem is most gym machines have the rear flywheel which requires more space in between. I found a machine that fit me and baought it since I prefer exercizing at home. Someone also mentioned the numb feet. That too can be an issue. Not as much of a problem on my…
  • ^this^ I eventully just bought my own instead of going to the gym. tried out quite a few before I found one that worked for me.
  • No problems for me. Actually think it's helped strengthen the muscles around my knees (which my ortho said I needed to do to reduce knee pain I was having). My knees have some arthritis and the typical 50 year old creeks and groans. I have a friend that can't use it because of the stress on her knees (something to do with…
  • I love mine. I admit though if you are short and are using one that does not fit your stride, it can certainly cause issues. That is one of the reasons I bought my own. I'm 5'1" and needed one with adjustible stride and narrower stance. Like being able to go backwards and resistance. As for boredom I have a tv in the room…
  • Glad to hear the yoplait is greek. Lots more nuts and seeds out there than almonds and they have tons of great nutrients. I prefer to mix mine with other things. A great option would be the leafy greens someone else mentioned with some grapes and walnuts. I'm not a big breakfast person either, so I get that.
  • It looks pretty good, but instead of the fiber one bar, why not add some fruit and nuts or seeds. I would nix the yoplait for a greek yogurt or low fat cottage cheese. Maybe add some milled flax or seeds to that as well.
  • Dry reds might not have much, but a sweet red would have more. Here is a link from wine spectator. http://www.winespectator.com/webfeature/show/id/Health-QA-How-Much-Sugar-is-in-Wine_3878
  • I agree that when it comes to weight loss it really does not matter about sugar and sat fat other than the number of calories "in vs. out." I think the science is pretty clear that there is a correlation with health though. Unless someone posts that they could care less about their health, I feel a responsible person is…
  • I should have clarified about the diabetes issue when it comes to the sugars. I know that a person with diabetes has concerns that those without don't have. I still only give myself about 12 extra grams to allow for the fruit (equivalent to about a tablespoon of sugar) and my low fat cottage cheese 1/2 cup of that has 4…
  • MFP is just a tool with guidelines based on who knows what? From what I've read, they generally correlate to the minimum requirements for things like protien and nutrients and the maximum for things like sugar and fat. The problem is that some things its good to go over on and some things not so much. The fiber setting on…
  • Thanks for the tip. I don't have that one. I really like the slower sequences, so I will see if I can't find it.
  • Love yoga. Been great for balance, strength and really helped reduce my TMJ symptoms and helped reduce pain from rotator cuff surgeries. I started with Rodney Yee's yoga for beginners. He's got a couple, but the one i have has a morning and afternoon routine. I am starting to add some of his harder routine's. Believe me,…
  • The condition I was thinking of is Hereditary Lymphedema. I learned about it a couple of years ago and did some research at the time. At the time I suspected a member of my family might have it and wanted to learn more. I remember a couple of things about it. First is that the best way to avoid the condition worsening is…
  • Have you talked with your doctor about it? At 5'8" and 140lbs it appears you are at a healthy weight. There are some medical conditions that cause fluid and fat retention in the legs and bottom.
  • IMO as long as you don't have diabetes, getting sugar from whole foods such as fruit is fine. I go over every day because of fruit. I would watch the cereal though, that kind of refined grain with added sugar is not the way to go. Even though I go over every day, almost none of it is added surgars in processed foods, just…
  • Not all of it will be that bad. If these are the first you might notice them changing a bit over time. Also, you might only get a few in that one area for several years. If it does start coming in heavy it might be time to switch hair care production. I really like Wen and Chi products. Wen is a bit expensive, but the Chi…
  • Exactly - I'm also throwing in a little IF. Seems to help me a good bit.
  • And ^^this^^
  • Do this^^ I am also short. After couple of years of working on my lifestyle change (and falling off the wagon for several months) I find that I do much better at 1400-1500 calories or so. This is sustainable for me and only a bit under what daily requirements will be once I reach my goal weight. As such, I think it's…
  • Grey hair is usually coarser and can start in spots. I have a streak on the right side, but not the left, and it is definetely grey.
  • Do you have a rest day at all given your work schedule? You might just need to have a day each week where you just chill and let your body recover. I mean a day where you don't do much more than those things necessary such as cooking and light housework, or a leisurely stroll.
