This is something I haven't understood. So I'm eating between 1200-1300 cals per day, exercising for at least an hour and a half at the gym five days a week, and biking at home on the weekends. I see that as I exercise my calorie goal increases. Am I supposed to try to eat to that? My nutritionist says no. I am confused.…

Hmmm....maybe I should. I need to jump start my weight loss again. I'd lost 10.5, but now seem stuck at 10. Going to the gym five days a week and biking at home over the weekend. Doing treadmill, bike, elliptical plus strength training. I don't want to get frustrated. I don't have "Shred," but may pick it up so to do it…

Welcome aboard to you, your daughter and your boss if (s)he decided to do it too. You will find this a great place for encouragement and support.

What is spinning?

Good for you. And congrats on all the work you did to get there. Eight is a nice number, isn't it? Do that happy dance. :flowerforyou:

I also do the check the restaurant online thing and it does help. Making little adjustments is a good idea, like omitting croutons, asking for fat free salad dressing, leaving off cheese, and asking for things baked instead of fried. Why do croutons have to be so high in calories? And wraps are another no-no. I had a…

At my son-in-law's birthday party recently I did not eat pizza, lemon cake, chocolate cake or ice cream. Instead, my husband stopped, at my request, at a local restaurant and brought me a delicious salad called a "Rosie Salad," a grilled chicken salad, one of their specialties. I ate part of that, along with water. People…

What a great job! Pat yourself on the back, buy some new clothes, enjoy the admiring looks of others, and keep on loving those veggies! Tee-hee! No kidding, big kudos to you!

Thank you for your post, Laura. I have seen the "starvation mode" message even when very slightly under my calorie goal. So, since my nutritionist cautioned me to not eat under 1200 calories and in fact said I could eat up to 1400 or 1500 for my 5'7" height, I can't. That's just way too much food. What I do is eat just…

Feel free to add me as a friend. Welcome to MFP. It's an incredible site.
-
Thanks for adding me. Support is what it's all about, and on the days when my scale stays the same I need friend voices to urge me to keep going.

Hey, Turtles, wanna be friends? Support is key. Thanks. Thanks. Thanks. :flowerforyou:

I have 20.5 pounds to go, so I definitely plan to be at goal by spring. Additionally, I want to wear size 12 or 10 jeans, be toned, and have energy like I've never had before. I also want to retain a gym membership and go as many days of the week as I can. As far as winter is concerned, I will make a mental decision NOT to…

Hi Lesley, and welcome. I have found this to be a great site. Never one to count calories, it's really helpful, and after a time I am learning not only what to eat but how much. Manage your portions. Palm-of-your-hand size Come to know what a cup and a half cup look like without having to measure all the time. Eat three…

Yeah, I am interested in this too, as I have been at the same weight for five days now. I know we can't consistently lose every day, but five days? Come on! I'm ready for my scale to start ticking down again. Shocking my body by eating more/less/more/less? I've not heard that. I will check back here for ideas. I keep…

Hi. Counting calories was new to me too but it helps tremendously in this weight-loss endeavor. I am amazed at how much I can eat, as long as it's the right food. For example, my dinner tonight is a Lean Cuisine (first ever) classic five cheese lasagna, frozen sugar snap peas (2/3 cup), a Gala apple and 1/2 cup of Concord…

Welcome, Cat. You have taken the important first step and I applaud you for that. On MFP you will find lots of support and encouragement. We cheer lead one another and hold up others when the going gets tough. Just knowing there are (many) others who are going through the same thing is helpful. I'll be looking for you on…

How about Triscuits, Ry-Krisps or rice cakes? Someone else said Laughing Cow cheese and I really like that too. I eat one wedge on an unsalted rice cake and it makes for a great snack. What about hard-boiling some eggs and keeping them in a cooler? Little applesauce cups? Yogurt in a cooler? Meal replacement bars? Make…

What motivates me? *my grandchildren and being able to be active right alongside of them. *legs and knees that do not hurt *looking better *buying new, smaller, cooler clothes *feeling better *having more energy It's not always easy. Sometimes I just want a hot fudge sundae or feeling that I'm not losing fast enough, want…

Wow, good for you. I think that if we keep our perspective on losing weight and becoming fit for OURSELVES, then others are sure to notice and comment. This happened to me several years ago when I lost 52 pounds. People were saying things all over the place and of course I loved it. When my son said, "Mom, you look…

Welcome. This is the place to be. I have really had a lot of help, including support and encouragement, and information in the form of people answering questions I have had. And being able to easily track my food and exercise helps keep me honest. I have a buddy in this, my sister-in-law, and she's on MFP too. I'm here for…

I live two hours west, on the lake. Does that count as close?

I always weigh first thing in the morning, no clothes, before water with pills, before food. My challenge is not weighing every day. A nutritionist told me I should not become dependent on the scale. Well, I know I am because I really like that little emotional boost when it tells me I've lost a pound or a half-pound. She…

When I ride my recumbent bike I extend my arms out in front of me and "pump" then, kind of like the pedals of a bicycle so that when the right arm is up the left arm is down. Then I switch to side to side, then to up and down. I know this isn't for sit ups, butt lifts or leg lifts, but it IS core work (under the ribs down…
