Ah, yes. Too many times was it more of a 'competition' with myself, knowing I'm doing something unhealthy but keeping at it, much like smoking. That was so many years ago!

Not only am I a recovering anorexic (I say 'recovering' because many health professionals recognize it as an addiction) but I'm an RD. I'm not sure why people who are FASTING don't consider themselves to have ED. My perspective is not from this side. Thank you, Beastette! Good information.
-
I understand. Your fasting is regular...like most people who fast overnight. I guess I should be more specific and say that when you don't consume your caloric/micro/macro needs for extended periods of time.

Thanks for the reply! I am, in a way, attempting to construct a 'definition' of sorts.

Like they said, you can, but it takes much longer. Wanting to lose weight this way is what, in part, led to my ED. I'll just eat less and less daily. Pretty soon.... Start slow and find an activity you like to do, however simple. Focus on your movement throughout the day. Be more intentional.

D@mn double post! Sorry!

This thread is exactly the reason I choose to work out at home. Yeesh. However, if it gets you to the gym, more power to ya.

Not a problem! This is all the info that I could think of that was important to me or that I desperately googled for a RELIABLE answer. I hope it's helpful!

I agree that motivation is key. My motivator is thinking of how long I want to be around for my children and the activities I want us to do together in the future (kayaking and rock climbing). It is important to me that they know fitness and nutrition (which they will definitely get from my background.) Welcome!

Hello Christine! Sorry to hear you're struggling. In general, the most important factor in babies weight gain is the volume taken in at each feeding. This is an excellent resource that generally states "Your diet and hydration levels minimally affect the composition of breastmilk." I also know that ovulation can affect…

Keep in mind that canned beans are very high in sodium--some containing around 1170mg. Keep in mind that rinsing the beans only reduces the sodium by about 41% (Shadix, 2010). I know it's a huge pain to cook them yourself but toss them in a crock pot over night and voila! You've saved substantial amounts of sodium! Shadix,…

We also will make doubles of things like veggie lasagna or casserole and freeze individual portions for work lunches.

So an individual with a very high BMI is an overall healthy individual? I am going to have to disagree. Though, like I said, you may be in perfect health otherwise, BMI itself is an indicator for future disease. See the research cited below: http://www.plosmedicine.org/article/info%3Adoi%2F10.1371%2Fjournal.pmed.1001212…

Healthy BMI being key. If you're talking about overall health, then I stand by my statement.

I take a salad every day. The Dr said you should eat one salad a day and that's mine. I can eat at my desk and not worry about overeating/mindless eating. I take whatever protein is left over from the previous night's dinner, chop it and put it on my salad.

Someone needs to create a group for Not-on-a-Dieters. I'm so tired of hearing "what do I need to cut out of my diet to lose weight?!" in all my other groups! I would like topics surrounding moderation, portion control and diversity of the diet.

Just because you aren't sick, doesn't mean you're healthy. There are 'fat' standards. BMI Categories: Underweight = <18.5 Normal weight = 18.5–24.9 Overweight = 25–29.9 Obesity = BMI of 30 or greater At 120lbs (5'2") and THIN, I've had a bmi of 25% before. THIN does NOT mean healthy. A BMI of 18.5–24.9. End of story. You…

LOL--I read incorrectly and posted backwards. ::duhmoments::

Clarification: for an overweight individual, it is. For an obese individual, it may be ok. For a morbidly obese individual, it is most likely ok.

Congrats! I have no idea who you are, but I'm proud of you!

Healthy weightloss is a pound a week :\

Oooo! I should add that hot beverages work for me, too. I usually drink a fenugreek tea (mother's milk from traditional medicinals) and that helps--as it's both hot and fenugreek is an appetite suppressant. Also, it helps the milk supply! :)

I think the key for all of us is to make sure you don't get TOO hungry. I will put whatever I possibly can in my body if I start feeling *starving*. Also...remember you can pick a bunch of low-cal foods and scarf away. I always keep cucumbers. That way, if I eat 2 of them and it's totally not what I wanted, at least…

Fat and thin are NOT mutually exclusive. Thin and healthy also are not. That is what OP is saying.

You may be on to something. I've heard FAR too many times that deprivation is NOT the way to do it and you're more apt to slip up.

Fat: 1 gram = 9 calories Protein: 1 gram = 4 calories Carbohydrates: 1 gram = 4 calories Alcohol: 1 gram = 7 calories You can eat a higher amount of protein and stay fuller longer because of it. However, high protein diets are not right for everyone. You MUST consume a high fiber diet (which most frequently comes from…

If you would like to turn brown rice into a complete protein, eat it with beans. Like all above said, higher in protein, fiber and fat.

I see my thread is a duplication of this one! I feel that far too many people are putting themselves in danger of creating poor eating habits or trying to get 'quick fixes' by DIETING. This is absolutely terrible. I feel that people should understand there is one way to lose weight: Less in, more out. fitness and PROPER…

Looking at what OP posted, you can probably do 2 things to improve: Cut the non-lean meats--no steak. Pork chops are ok, but not as good as chicken and fish. Have vegetarian meals a couple night a week. Replace noodles and bread with rice or quinoa.

There is now significant data that states that dehydration minimally impacts BFing. HOWEVER, it is very important that you have it for homeostasis of the body--but it won't decrease your milk supply. Women in the first 4 weeks of breastfeeding should not be attempting to regulate calories while their milk supply is…
