Good distinction Azdak, yes to clarify I'm no longer experiencing DOMS the day or two after I workout. My muscles feel a little tight today and I think that if I benched today I would definitely not be able to do the amount of weight and number of reps I did yesterday but I'm not getting that "it's hurts to put on my tight…

What kind of physical activities do you do to stay in shape? If it's jogging you could try to push yourself to jog for a certain duration, or if it's on a machine like the elliptical you can do something similar. Is there an exercise activity that can appeal to you as a hobby? I've found that while in the past when I was…

I hear ya ncblazek, I started this year with a goal to lose the weight, to get back down to 150 preferably and have a 13% or under body fat %. Mainly get rid of the gut and be more athletic. I was at 166 at the time and relatively rapidly I went down to 160 after one month of eating at 1200 cals (way below my supposed BMR…

You're doing great, keep up the routine and if you really want McDonald's, well, I suggest you watch food, inc or anyone of those documentaries that talk about fast food. Even if I wasn't watching my calories I'd have no problem steering clear of that place, I don't even think of that stuff as actual food anymore. But even…

I've tried "in the Raw", some generic store brand stevia, and Truvia. I've found Truvia to be the best tasting and least licorice flavored for tea and coffee. I've tried stevia on cereals and it just doesn't work out so well. Seems to be good w/ hot things not as good with cold things but that's just me.

With regards to the gas caused by healthy eating. I find that on my extended workout sessions at the gym I got to let them loose. Anything improper with that? I never had to before but I think its due to my dedication and effort in exercise...

Here's the problem: I wear an HRM and with kind of workouts I'm doing (usually 30-70 min aerobic warmup on the treadmill or elliptical then 30 min lifting) the calories burnt ends up being over 1000. That along with some other activities in my day will bump me up close to 3000 calories total according to MFP - Ultimately…

find a nice place to run at, paths along that place where your ticker picture is at would be perfect and run run/walk in intervals (2 min walk, 30 seconds jog, 2 min walk, 30 seconds jog, etc). This builds up your endurance dramatically. In two weeks time you'll be able to jog for 20 minutes straight.

Great! I'll give this a try next chest & shoulders day. I split my week into: day 1 back/biceps (lat pull, machine row, dumbell curls), day 2 cardio only day 3 chest/triceps/shoulders (bench, machine flys, incline bench, tricep pulldown, shoulder press, front raise), day 4 cardio only and 5 glutes/quads/hamstrings/calves…

Thanks for all the advice everybody. I guess I'll lower the number of sets down to 3 and go with higher weights and lower reps. I do want to build up some more mass. My initial idea was to slim down lower my body fat % and then build up muscle but the weight loss has plateaued so I'm thinking to build up the muscle first…

Hmm, so here's an example. Yesterday I did 5 sets of bench press (machine): 100 lbs @ 10 reps 112.5 lbs @ 12 reps 112.5 lbs @ 10 reps 112.5 lbs @ 8 reps 112.5 lbs @ 5 reps I wanted those last 2 sets to get to 10 reps but I couldn't push them any further than I had. Today my pecs feel ... different, not sore but a little…

I used to think it was bad, now I think it depends on whether you're binging and whether you've surpassed your total calories for the day. Just don't eat a ton of processed carbs or sugar before bed, but a glass of milk and protein shake should be just fine. I think people don't suggest eating at night because most people…

Oh my inspiration, hmm, it's allot of things, I want to be in as good a shape as my kids are so that I could hang out with them all day and walk/run/roller blade all around the city in the summer time. My really fit brother who runs marathons twice a year and has his body fat at 9%. And I'm inspired by my friends who are…

First check-in for the day: I'm at 159.4, so lost 0.9 lbs since my last check-in but I'm +0.2 lbs over my check-in a week before that. Here's the progress so far: 2/23/10: 159.2 3/2/10: 158.7 3/9/10: 160.3 3/16/10: 159.4 Starting 3/4/10 I upped my calories from 1200/day to 1690/day as that's what my BMR is calculated at -…

I hear crystal meth does wonders for weight loss but that's not route you want to take. If the doctor is a real doctor he's probably got some kind of plan to wean her off and dramatically change her eating habits in the future, or maybe he's in the pocket of the pharmaceutical industry. Don't focus on losing the weight…

It has helped ease things allot. I just have the scale with me everywhere and just tare things rather than finding the measuring cup for stuff. The only thing that annoys me is that allot of things on MFP are measured by volume and not weight so the scale doesn't help there.

What a waste of food. Well at least its junk food she's eating, maybe she can clean out all the bad stuff and leave the healthy food for people who need it. I understand it's depressing to be stuck in a state of morbid obesity, but expressing it this way w/ this cry for attention is terrible. People who purposely choose…

I blame the restaurants honestly. Since I've gotten serious with counting my calories I've practically stopped eating out all together. One plate will cost you easily 800 calories and the full meal with dessert covers your daily goal right there. I've just been avoid those places though my wife isn't happy about…

Do you have a HRM? Why don't you wear that thing all day and see how many calories you burn then add that to your BMR and calculate backwards to determine your lifestyle.
-
I'm thankful for all your thoughts on this! Yeah it would be nice if everything about fitness and weight loss was just about numbers and calculations and you could just quantify it all but there's a little fuzziness to it. I decided to experiment and keep my HRM on for the next 3 hours after the workout and I saw that on…

I previously enjoyed running on the treadmill much more but after being forced off of it to recover from shin splints I've gone to the elliptical for backup. I have a newfound appreciation of the elliptical now because it's the kind of machine you can be on for very long periods of time and not develop any injuries from…

Hi guys, I started the original p90 on wednesday after attempting p90x back and arms and getting wiped out w/in the first 25 minutes of it (way too many sets of pushups and pullups for me). Power 90 seems right for me at the moment, I'm able to push myself and struggle through it and actually complete it.

hmm northern il... how much does this cost?

You should probably bump them up a bit. I think the key to healthy weight loss is to eat between your BMR and your current maintenance. I've been stuck for about a month now initially doing everything at 1200 cals and no loss, so I've upped the cals, actually lowered the number of days I work out and gained 1.6 lbs but…

It really depends on how little or how much you are trying to lose and how easily it comes off for you. For me it's very hard to tell a definite difference from just looking in the mirror. And the measuring tape is a problem b/c there are too many places to mess around (for instance, my mind messes w/ me and says are u…

I'm not sure what quitting is, but I hope you don't go on an eating binge and hurt your body. I think one problem is the obsessive focus we all have on actual weight as being that which defines whether we are healthy or not. I'm sure you would lose weight if all you eat was lettuce nonstop everyday but you wouldn't be…

Checking in: Lloyd, I got your two pounds right here! Gained +1.6 lbs since last week. Back up to 160.3 again. Considering I've been eating under or at my calories most days, I've got no "cheat" days, and I workout & lift pretty extensively, I'm not quite sure what more I can do...I can keep at it, focus on the weight…

Music - I've got a playlist called "pump" that I put all kinds of different songs that'll pump me up while running or on the elliptical. Allot of 80s tracks and singles, punk or ska songs, anything that pumps you up. Like Wild, Wild West from Escape club, M.J. Beat It, Eye of the Tiger, Dangerous from Roxette, Lose…

There needs to be a way to "watch" favorite topics so that you can be informed when new posts come in... I keep forgetting to check back here. Man, so many things to reply to... In response to dad and casper - Its good to know I'm not the only "pear" shaped guy in MFP, my hips are wider than the waist - I almost think that…

I go pretty intense with it - I'm usually at 75-90% of my max heart rate for the larger duration of the elliptical training, after the first 5 minutes warm up I really just push it. To give you an idea, I elliptic'd for 6.9 miles. Maybe I can "test drive" a Polar F7 from somewhere and compare the results. I'll just wear…
