If you are too weak to start with the bar, you could start out with something like goblet sqats with a dumbell. Fractional plates are nice, but if they are too expensive you might get something like an adjustable ankle weight and use that instead. Another option to consider is to go with ALL PROs beginner routine.…

That is pretty normal. Unless it is a marked difference, it should even out as you work with weights. You could add in some dumbell exercises if need be. Mike

For quick meals, I like one of the shrink wrapped sweet potatos, nuked for 6 minutes, with a precooked frozen chicken breast. Throw on some salsa over the breast and wa la. For a snack, pita bread and hummus. Or Peanut Butter and celery, or pbj on some 40 cal bread with sugar free jelly or peanut butter and banana…

Looks like you answered your own question there. In general, a short warmup period is recommended before lifting, like 5-10 minutes on the elliptical or treadmill or whatever, then get your lifting in, followed by cardio. Mike

When do you think it is good to switch to 5/3/1? I stalled on 5x5, switched to 3x5, then to ALL Pro beginners routine. I have stalled out there now, have been on maintinence for several months after losing 75 pounds. Took a week off this week just to recharge, considering whether to continue allpro, or go back to 5x5 vs…

In addition to 21 machines being a little overkill, you only want to lift weights every other day to let your body recover. Lifting every day will lead to overtraining or injury. You might look into giving up some of the more (how shall I say it politely.)... silly machines like thigh abduction and adduction. Here is a…

http://stronglifts.com/stronglifts-5x5-app-android/ You have to give your email to get it, but his spam is sometimes interesting, so worth it I think. I think i used biglifts to track it before the official stronglifts app came out, I haven't tried the new app as I am on ALL PRO now. Mike

The kinect on the one has infrared and visible spectrum video sensors. It apparantly sees minute changes in the skin color and uses those minute changes to detect the hearbeat. I would imagine it is very accurate Apparantly the technology was developed at MIT. It’s called Eulerian Video Modification and from the MIT link…

Many on here will recommend Stronglifts program, you can get the program free on the internet. Another option I think works better on a cut is the ALL PRO beginner Routine on bodybuilding.com. You can google both of them, see the links to start.. Stronglifts has an app, Allpro you can use the JEFIT program to track, and…

I don't really think you are getting "too muscular" whatever that means. You might post your routine for people to critique, but everyone here will probably tell you to continue to do strength training as well as the cardio to maintain muscle mass while losing weight. Mike

I think it is too soon to say that HIIT can replace regular cardio. What I do is incorporate it into my cardio, ie, I warm up for 5 minutes, do my HIIT, then finish my 30 minutes with normal cardio. I feel this way I get the most of both worlds, as I feel just doing hiit has not been proven to do all the good things that…

Everyone is very prejudiced against the machines, for good reasons. However, if you don't want to start on the free weights, just be aware of which machines are REALLY bad. There are several lists on the net, such as this one: http://www.menshealth.com/mhlists/avoid_lifting_injuries/ In the meantime, pick a weight on the…

The polar website seems quite confusing, was the replacement strap definitely the correct one? I would imagine if it wasn't the transmitter would not work with it. The ones on amazon seem to say that they are "Compatible with all Polar heart rate sensors, utilizing the same snap attachment method". One thing you might try…

Ditto the protein, mfp programs protein level way too low for a lifter. Mike
-
So you had about 40 g of protein from meat. Did you have more protein from other sources, such as dairy or plant? There are many factors on the amount of protein to consume, such as a gram per pound of lean body mass etc. Mike

What kind of progress did you guys that were doing all pros routine make? I switched to it from stronglifts because I had stalled, but find myself stallling on it also, took me three cycles to pass bench, maybe that was because of poor initial weight choice, or because I had been on my weight loss cycle. I am eating…

Bodybuilding.com. There are a lot of different programs there. You might look at the ALLPRO Beginner program, there is a huge forum there, http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=4195843 and for nutrition: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=156380183 Mike

That is a fair amount of weight to lose in that period of time. It is probably doable, but will be tough. Check out Military.com for their guidelines, they also have some training programs. http://www.military.com/military-fitness/navy-fitness/ The main focus seems to be on pushups, situps and running, plus swimming.. You…

Did you really have a concussion? A concussion implies that you were knocked out, extremely dazed, have trouble concentrating and remembering things. Most likely you had a minor closed head injury. If so, you can go back to the gym whenever you feel able. If you truly had a concussion, you will want to take some time off.…

In order to figure out the reps, you just have to pick a weight that you THINK you can do 10 reps of and give it a try. You started with the bar, which is 45 pounds. How did you feel after doing the reps? Did you do 10, and it was a breeze? If so, add some weight and try again. If you can't do 10, it was too much, if you…

The biggest thing to worry about these days is identity theft. I would put a credit freeze on my credit and file fraud alerts with all the credit bureaus. http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0275-place-fraud-alert http://credit.about.com/od/privacyconcerns/qt/securityfreeze.htm Mike

Jefit has lots of different routines available. They have barbell and dumbell workouts. You can browse through multiple catagories, suceh as beginner, inter, advanced. Split or full body. Cutting or bulking. Gen fitness or sport, male, female, etc, etc, etc. They have the new rules of lifting for women that is often…

Cybex makes many different machines, you might go to their website and find the exact one you are using and look at the specs. Mike

6 days a week of TRUE HIIT would be quite taxing on your system. Are you really doing HIIT or more doing intervals? Mike

Ehh, everyone wants to make money. Rippetoe isn't giving away his starting strength book. The price of Mehdi's basic program is still free, and his emails are occassionally entertaining and/or informative, so I actually read them, even though I am no longer doing stronglifts The "inner circle" is more for people that have…

I just was over at livestrong where they have started a new program called STRONGER that is a combo activity/weight loss site. 10 day free trial, might be worth checking out. http://www.livestrong.com/stronger/ Mike
