Magic words, there...

I have a good deal of cautious hope going on here. He's been raised by one of our country's ballsiest females and as far as I can see, has married a pretty cool one, too. There's got to be more there than just the hair. http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/canada-politics-margaret-trudeau-neil-macdonald-1.3282894…

Now, now...no need to go THAT far. There is much better beer to be had around here!

I was clueless, too!! LOL Sounds like you're using the machines? They're not bad, and can have a place in a resistance workout, but moving to the free weight section and working on compound lifts will get you fantastic results, faster. There are some easy to follow programs that are great for beginners. I liked Stronglifts…

Head cold, suck it up. Chest cold, rest. Trust me, working out with a chest cold can set you back way more. Take a few recovery days now or you may be forced to take a lot more later. Hope you're feeling better soon!

You're job alone would make you "lightly active", so you picked the right modifier. So eat the 1700 MFP says PLUS your intentional gym-based exercise. That being said, machines and MFP itself overinflate cardio burns, so maybe start by eating back only half of your exercise calories and see how fast you lose. (Resistance…

Many, many pages of awesome: https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/1161603/so-you-want-a-nice-stomach/p1

Agreed, not with that caloric intake. OP: I'm curious...what lifting program have you started?
-
That's just percentages - there are less people here than in Ontario and out west, so it stands to reason there are less of us Maritimers on MFP. Harper, though, needs to go down in a large ball of fire...

Yeah, a deficit like that for 4-5 pounds is WAY too much stress on your body, hence the fatigue and insomnia. Give this a read if you're looking to recomp: http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10177803/recomposition-maintaining-weight-while-losing-fat/p1

That's how I ate my entire time on MFP. I lost almost 100 pounds and have maintained that loss for two years now. Moderation is where it's at!

I suck with gifs, but please imagine a standing ovation one inserted right here. The OP states that they do not have a healthy relationship with food. Portion control is their problem and that's what is unhealthy. Blaming flour, sugar, etc. for what is (for whatever reason) a lack of self control is mind boggling to me.

Eating it truly al dente is having it undercooked, actually. You remove it from the pot and let the residual heat of the sauce finish cooking it through. I cook mine a little less than al dente because I make my sauce from scratch and I'll finish my pasta on the stove in the sauce for three or so minutes. Very yummy and…

Actually organic foods are allowed to have an "acceptable" level of pesticides to be labeled as such, so considering the price difference, what's the point?

Aren't we all unicorns on here? ;)

When you told mfp you were sedentary it gave you a calorie goal that is a deficit based on you doing nothing all day, so technically you could lose weight just hanging out around the house, being actually inactive. (Most people are not truly and completely sedentary.) Any exercise you do creates a bigger deficit, giving…

I have the same stats as you, only I'm a lot older. If I lost over 30 pounds I would be burning off most of my LBM, making me look skeletal AND putting my health at risk. If your health really is your concern, then please forget about the number on the scale. For people with actual muscle, the scale isn't necessarily the…

Progressive heavy compound lifts and a good diet to lower your BF %.

If you're not weighing, you're eating more than you think, so you're probably taking in much more than 1300-1500. Since you can't accurately track and with only a few pounds to go, if you're losing more than 0.5 lbs a week, I would add a little bit each day to get to that rate of loss. If it's less of a loss, cut back a…

Google transverse ab exercises. Much more effective than crunches and some you can do all day, in any position.

Fry them? Surely you mean batter those babies up and DEEP-fry them. Just frying them would cause all the yummy goodness to seep out and that would be so sad...

I lost most of my weight at 1800-2000, but my TDEE is around 2500. I did the default 1200 cals at first and my hair started to fall out, so I did some reading and this thread helped me incredibly: http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/1080242/a-guide-to-get-you-started-on-your-path-to-sexypants Best of luck!

I'm personally in the recomp camp. This is a good read: http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10177803/recomposition-maintaining-weight-while-losing-fat/p1 TONS of experience on this thread. My stats (except my age!) are the same as yours and I'm recomping on 2300. It's way slower than a bulk/cut cycle, but I…

I have to disagree here. Intermittent fasting can end up being a really bad fit for someone with anxiety about calorie counting. I do IF and the "Oh my god, my friend had to move our lunch date up by an hour!!!" used to cause me anxiety, and I don't mind counting calories. Actually, the book Ditching Diets recommended by…

No. No HRM works for that or circuit training. They're only designed to be accurate for steady state cardio. Edit: Fitbits and other activity trackers are great for helping you estimate your TDEE, though.

Your logging is way too generic. "Homemade Pasta and Meat Sauce - 2 cups" for less than 500 calories? Sorry... Considering two cups of cooked pasta is around 450 cals, then either you used a mere tablespoon of sauce or you used someone else's incorrect entry. The recipe builder is super easy to use - just make sure you're…

Healthy foods or not, you are grossly and painfully undereating, especially since you've added running. MFP is designed that the lowest default to NET is 1200 calories, so you have sufficient nutrients so things like losing your hair won't happen. With your exercise you're netting 800-1000 maybe. In all the tests you've…

Yeah, is the OP just uncomfortable and nervous or is she having trouble breathing and having heart palpitations? Anxiety in any form isn't fun, at all, and getting around it involves a lot more than just saying "screw everyone else".

Me too. A long while ago I read a quote saying: "Other peoples' opinion of me are none of my business." Try quoting that to them and politely asking them to keep their opinions to themselves from now on. It's helped me get through this kind of thing and a lot more! lol
