My goal for August is 1000 miles. No, I'm not showing off...it's all relative. Any extra motivation I can get is helpful. Good luck to everyone with your goals. IMHO cycling is the best exercise there is. I've been riding and racing for 30+ years.

First of all...TAKE A BREATH!!! Everything will be fine. The world is not crashing around your shoulders like you seem to be feeling. A couple of tips. "Accurately" count all calories going in, and all calories burned. It's fairly simple physics really. If you're consuming less than your body needs to run, you WILL lose…

I wouldn't sweat it. Just do the 80/20 rule and give yourself a break once a week or so.
-
You may also want to take a multi-vitamin if your not consuming a fully balanced diet.

Okay, as gross as this sounds, I remember hearing that after John Wayne died, the autopsy revealed about 40 pounds of undigested food in his gut. I think the quick initial weight loss that many people experience when starting a new diet, is flushing (pun intended) much of that stuff out of your system. You may also be…

I would say stop now...you look stunning.

Unless you have a truly active job for 8 hours a day, I would leave it set at sedentary with whatever your weight loss goals are. Sounds like 1-2 pounds a week is good. But then when you do an exercise, do NOT consume that equal amount in extra calories. Shoot for maybe half of what you burned during your activity. A good…

My God how I love English women. I hate to generalize, but I've dated two now and just loved their sensibilities, humor, and charm. Who knew there were so many of you here. Good luck to you all.

In terms of physics, no...the type of calorie doesn't matter. A Kcal is a unit of energy, and one calorie of fat has the exact same energy as one calorie of carbs or protien. Some people claim there's a marginal effect from your body having to convert excess carbs and proteins into stored fat as opposed to fat going…

I get the exact same thing from my friends and family too. But "feeling" like you've gained ten pounds, and actually gaining ten pounds are two very different things. If you're weight stays fairly constant over a few week period, I'd ignore the slight gains and losses that you see over a few days. I train so much that I…

You need to understand that having abs has very little to do with weightlifting, and EVERYTHING to do with body fat. You can have the most amazing abs in the world, but if your body fat is anything over 10 or 12%, chances are you won't see them. So the silver lining for you is that sticking with cardio for a while will…

Oh hell yes!! My normal routine is training on my bike 2 hours a day during the week, and about 8 hours over the weekend, and I eat about 1800 calories a day for the most part. For about a week I'll be doing fine, then after 7-10 days that caloric deficit catches up with me and I can't stop eating for like 2-3 days solid.…

Welcome to the website. Yeah, those last 5 or 10 pounds can be the hardest, but if you make small changes and concentrate on long-term lifestyle changes you'll be fine. Let me know if there's anything I can help you with. There seem to be a lot of cool people here.

I read on another post here that it did calculate calories burned, but no info on how to operate it. If it didn't come with a manual, you can usually find them online.

Personally, I would save your money and buy a regular heart rate monitor that tracks calories burned for about $50. You can wear it all day too to get an idea of how many calories you burn throughout the day. And you can (and obviously do) use MFP to analyze the foods you're eating. The sleep thing in practical terms may…

"Most weight lost" is fine too...but those who have more to lose have an advantage doing it that way. We've done something similar at work, and we just did the greatest percentage lost of your starting weight wins. That levels the playing field a little.

Just to be clear...BMI and body fat percentage are two very different numbers. Calipers, body fat scales, immersion are all ways to measure body fat percentage. BMI is just a number based on your height and weight, and generates a number that will categorize you on a scale. For instance, my BMI is 20.8 (in the normal…

HOW is the stationary bike tracking calories burned? Does it actually measure your heart rate or just use an estimate based on some factors that you input? If you're working up a sweat at least, I would say you're in the 350 calories per hour range.

I find that with the whole "friends not understanding" thing it's best if you don't talk too much about counting calories, and eating healthy etc., when you're out with them having a good time. People can resent it when you sound like you're pushing your new-found healthy outlook on them. If they ask about it that's…

Yes, it definitely depends on the recipe used, but 500 calories for 1/2 cup of ANYTHING sounds high to me. Premium ice cream isn't even that high in calories. You have to remember that a lot of the calorie info on myfitnesspal comes from user input, and I've found many of them to be wildly inaccurate. And non-chain…

Well, there's also alcohol, which has about 7 calories per gram. Other than that it's probably just rounding errors in the actual grams since they don't fractionalize the grams. Anyone else?

Just send 'em my way. I think I can knock down 48 snickers in about a week.

How are you with milk products? I know milk shakes and protein shakes can be a a huge source of calories and are normally pretty easy on the stomach for most people. Sorry to hear about your troubles...good luck.

My suggestion would be to only weigh yourself once a week. Even without my balls swelling up, my weight can fluctuate a pound or two from day-to-day. It's natural. So just look at it from more of a long-term perspective. You'll drive yourself crazy if you stress about daily changes in your weight. Eating right is a…

For some of the jumping around moves, I find I need an area of about 8 x 8, but for most of the other things 6 x 6 would work...though you'd be pretty cramped. Also, for many people, P90X suggests too many calories and overestimates the calorie burn for the workouts. There are MANY threads out there about P90X and too many…

I tend to agree with Maitlyn, unless you've had a lifelong friendship with this guy that you don't want to risk losing, I think you should just put your cards on the table. I've always felt that the things we regret the most are the chances we never took.

This may be a silly question, but why don't you just get a heart rate monitor that calculates calories burned for you? Since you're estimating your VO2 max anyway, it would probably be just as accurate. It sounds like a lot of calculating, especially if you're doing mixed workouts with strength and cardio. Just my 2 cents…

Eat more. Seriously...the easiest way to look at is like this. If you're an "average" woman, with an average activity level, you need roughly 1800 calories/day to stay alive. If you consume 1500 per day, that gives you a deficit of 300. Then, find a way to workout everyday burning about 400 calories each workout. That's a…

I like how you think... :)

I wasn't thinking that far ahead...probably cold from the fridge because I hate to wait.
