Eh, I'm with you on this one. She's bragging while cheating, with a touch of condescension. Very unflattering.

They're similar, but Strava seems like a nicer interface and a larger database of riders. Strava will track your ride and then if any segments have already been defined by anyone else as a climb, or sprint, etc., it will automatically compare your time on just that piece of your ride, with a full leadboard for every…

Yeah, according to my HRM I only get about 900 calories for my 37 miles roundtrip commute to work. And I go pretty hard too. As your fitness goes up, you become more efficient and the calorie burn generally goes down.

I'll second that on TD's mileage. Those are some killer numbers by anyone's standards.

Started off with 37 miles today with my normal work commute. Has anyone tried the Strava app for gps devices (Garmin, iPhone, etc.)? It's a cool way to track your rides and it will even automatically rank you on any climbs, sprint areas, etc., that others have defined. From the iPhone your recorded rides are automatically…

Accidentally screwed up my ticker, but ended up with 622 for October. Good job everyone. And for those that may have missed it, I set up the November Cycling Challenge at the link below: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/381540-november-cycling-challenge-200-miles-1-month

I hear ya. Here in SoCal we have the luxury of riding pretty much year 'round. My normal months are 1000-1200, with October being the exception because of some other commitments I had. Regardless of your goals, it's all about staying motivated. Good luck to everyone.

I went ahead and created the November Cycling Challenge thread: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/381540-november-cycling-challenge-200-miles-1-month

It's that time to set mileage goals for November. I should be back up to 1000 in November. Does someone want to start the thread?

Layers, layers, layers. I have my own rule of thumb...In the 40's, I wear 4 layers. Then I inversely add or subtract a layer depending on the temperature. So if it drops to the thirties, I do 5 layers, if it goes up to the 50's, I do three layers, 60's is two layers. It's an easy way to get dressed in the morning. And…

We had a beautiful weekend here in SoCal so I was able to get around 120 miles . With my commute to work tomorrow I should be around 622 for October.
-
So my plan is to ride home tonight, get about 100 miles this weekend and then ride to work Monday for just over 600 miles for October. My plans haven't been going so well this month however. And it's getting cold in the morning...time to dig out the knee warmers.
-
Thanks for that. Yeah, everything is good. Looks like there are a few people nipping at my heels this month. I better step it up a little. :-)
-
Okay, so I've only been able to get a couple of rides in over the last two weeks, so it's safe to say this month is pretty shot for me. I'm going to shoot for another 250 by the end of October so my goal should be just over 600. But I least I got my open water dive certification, so it was worth it.

This is my first day back on the bike since last Friday. Busy, busy week, and I won't be able to ride this weekend. Oh well, I may only end up with around 800 for the month, but I'll keep trying.

Rare rain storm in SoCal means no riding today. With this coming weekend being mostly shot, I'll have a lot of miles to make up. Week 1 (Partial) = 71 Week 2 = (Mon. 59, Tue. 37, Wed. 0 , Thu. , Fri. , Sat. , Sun. )

I had a girlfriend (from the Peak District actually), that could only eat her M&Ms once they were all sorted by color. I also need to have the volume on a digital radio be an even number. It's a curse.

Week 1 (Partial) = 71 Week 2 = (Mon. 59, Tue. 18, Wed. , Thu. , Fri. ) FYI~ My riding week starts on Mondays and ends on Sundays. That's why I usually end up with a partial first week and last week depending on where the month starts. I know some people just start on the 1st of the month and start counting their week from…

I'm gonna do my usual 1000 for October. 130 so far. I will update my ticker when I get to a real computer.

Just the ride home tonight and I will close out the month with just under 1100. It's getting harder with the diminishing light in the evening and the coming cold. I usually don't do this, but here's a quote of the day that I heard yesterday. "Let's face it...After Monday and Tuesday, even the calendar says W T F."
-
I'll go with fluid retention too. Apparently newly worked muscles will retain fluid in the repair process. Just keep at it and it will start to work. Sometimes it takes my weight a month to start moving, even with eating right and crazy amounts of cardio. But then it will drop all of a sudden...go figure. Don't get…

I still enjoy the competition though. As I said earlier, next month I may lower my goal to around 800 because two full weekends I'll be getting my SCUBA cert.
-
Since I can't do my normal commute tomorrow, I'm going to shoot for doing an early 30 miles in the morning. Then with Friday's ride I should be in the 1100 mile range for the month.
-
Got that extra mile tonight to meet my goal. The rest of the month will be bonus miles. I'm getting my SCUBA certification in October, so I'll probably only shoot for around 800 miles because two full weekends will be shot.
-
Took that much needed day off the bike yesterday. After my commute home tonight I will be 1 mile short of my goal. Maybe I'll ride around the block a couple of times.

Finished up the week with a nice easy ride today. Almost there. Week 1 (Partial) = 88 Miles Week 2 = 286 Week 3 = 274 Week 4 = 314 September Total = 962
