38 miles for me tonight. last night with the club...they stop riding as an organized group because it gets dark too early.

OK - Lets see if we can get to 200+ again this month... I've a new toy to cover the bad weather - Tacx Bushido & PC Link software (which i'm currently fighting with as it's a bit bug-ridden and horrible, but I'll get there!)

amazing how different body types are. i'm struggling to expend 1000 calories on a 30 mile ride...of course, i'm about 140 soaking wet, too!
Yeah, according to my HRM I only get about 900 calories for my 37 miles roundtrip commute to work. And I go pretty hard too. As your fitness goes up, you become more efficient and the calorie burn generally goes down.
Yes. Being overweight does have some advantages; however, I look forward to the day when I struggle to burn off enough calories. I still remember being skinny and being fit, back in my teens.
Next year, I plan on towing my 4 year old on a recumbent behind me in hopes to burn more calories, as I anticipate I'll have more problems getting a good burn. He's always wanted me to take him with me, but with my current weight, my bike won't handle it.0 -
I'm back! Now that things have settled down, I am upping my monthly goal to 450. Today I did 70 miles. Bike-commuting has been going great as well, and is a nice way to get 13 miles a day in without having to think about it hardly at all. I have a century lined up for next Sunday, so this coming week will be pretty light until then (probably commuting only).

I can"t stress how much fun it is to track mileage and if I have none, I'm motivated to ride stationary.0 -
got 41 miles done today. 110 for november so far. the last 5 really hurt. have a sick kid at my house, so i am running on about 5 hours of sleep today. that coupled with not eating particularly well before the ride really did a number on me. the last 5 miles were really cold and painful...into the wind, and completely out of gas. yuck!0

Hey Carbonboy, what does the Streva app do for you that MapMyRide or something like that doesn't? Does it have a large user community?
They're similar, but Strava seems like a nicer interface and a larger database of riders.
Strava will track your ride and then if any segments have already been defined by anyone else as a climb, or sprint, etc., it will automatically compare your time on just that piece of your ride, with a full leadboard for every defined climb. Even just my 18 mile ride to work has a couple of rollers that people have defined as climbs, and so I can compare my times with 100's of other people's times...all automatically "segmented" without me doing anything. They show KOM and QOM, personal best times, all kinds of stuff.
I actually run Strava and MapMyRide at the same time on my iPhone because my health insurance at work gives credit for workouts but they only sync with MMR. It's worth $15 off my premiums a month. That's the only reason I use it.0 -
