If you'd prefer to take a not-so-awkward and confrontational approach, eat your healthy meal privately (if possible, like at your desk) and serve yourself about a quarter of a normal portion, and just push it around your plate. If you keep up with the conversation and take the occasional bite, it's hard to notice. Usually…

Oh yeah, the used book website half.com has a plethora of dvd's super cheap, starting at 75 cents.

I've also done Jillian Michaels assorted dvds and Billy Blanks' taebo and boot camp. I also take advantage of the free workouts available via the on-demand feature on my cable service. It's a great way to "demo" new workouts and instructors. But by far my favorite is the website bodyrockers.tv very intense but short…

How are everyone's deployments going?

Grab a packet of veggie dip seasoning (the kind found in the spice isle) and make veggie or spinach dip for your carrot sticks. I also use it in making tuna dip: two cans of tuna, two stalks chopped celery, half a chopped onion, half a block of lowfat cream cheese, half a block of extra creamy tofu, and half a cup of plain…

We just finished up two years' geobatching before deployment. I love how strong my relationships are with my kids now, and how I can redecorate without compromising. No fishing quilts!!

Depending on where you are and your cable provider, you may have access to free videos. I've used both Verizon and Comcast on-demand features to try out new workouts or trainers before buying the dvd.

I'm sure I'll get flamed for this, but you can start by not feeling sorry for yourself. You married a soldier. This is part of your job. Keep up your interests and activities, and do not let yourself, or him, down. HE DOES NOT NEED TO BE WORRYING ABOUT YOU WHEN HE"S GONE. That's the best way you can support him. Join a…

Just for fun, compare the ingredients to a package of jelly candy. They're pretty close. I started out by using gummy bears and candy fruit slices and hard candies. I eventually switched to honey (you can find it in the ketchup-style packets) and fresh clementines.

HA! Glad I'm not the only one. I have the best luck at Banana Republic.

Same here! My goal was 130-135 which was college weight, I'm now 140-145 and dear husband keeps asking me to put 5-10# back on. I'm more fit/muscular than ten years ago, and he thinks my face looks to drawn at this weight.

I spend about $400 to $500 for a family of 5, which includes two teenage boys. Most of our meals are from scratch, and I shop sales carefully. We're fond of pasta, beans, rice, potatoes, and oatmeal.

My daughter started running 5k's at age 5. We did the walk/run routine at a 5k that included both, and slowly worked up to running all the way. She started out taking about 40 minutes. We practiced by running little spurts during evening walks. I'd say if it's kid friendly, and your son can walk 5k comfortably, then…

The Columbia Association sells maps of all of the trails in Columbia. I found this out after getting miserably lost last summer :) Patapsco Park has some beautiful trails, but beware of the mud factor. And, as always, running alone.

I try to be kind and stick with "My body is strong, giving, and capable." If I get whiny during a long run, though, I throw in a few "You're 32, this *kitten* ain't getting any easier to do. Run the best mile you can right now so that you can run the best mile you can at 64."

Proud Army wife! Right out side of DC now. There is an open Military group here.....

Such a funny topic. My mom taught us one NEVER comments on a person's appearance, especially weight loss, unless the other party brings it up first.

I don't keep a scale at home b/c I get totally obsessive. That said, I get super annoyed when people at the gym fail to slide the weights back to the left, and it hasn't been calibrated in eons. I usually don't know what I weigh until I have a dr's appt.

This is a fantastic post. Your wife is quite lucky to have someone who recognizes how hard she works.

i have a day of river tubing planned. The kids are to pack a picnic lunch and we've made reservations with an outfitter. I just hope they can keep it a surprise!

My kids kept distracting me so I am forever a step behind, but i feel great. Good job everyone! See you tomorrow.

thank you for point out the "couch calories!" I suspect a lot of folks don't factor that in...
