Your username is entirely apt. :D

Also, I'm not sure the exact chemistry......but many hard-alcohols don't have any carbs because they aren't a direct byproduct of fermentation, like wine/beer. Distilled spirits are essentially all the same until after the condensing phase (except gin is distilled with the botanicals if it isn't cheap s***). Chemist weigh…

James Bond should shoot you for your assertions, Chris. Or do you not realize that real martinis are gin? Churchill would have something to say, too.

I find cooking quinoa in broth helps pull all the flavors together. Also, I love chard, but it can be a bit bitter depending on how old large the leaves are. I like adding a can of rotel to quinoa as well. Did you salt everything sufficiently (and by that I mean enough to bring out flavors, not make salty!). Good luck!

THIS IS TRICKSY. I'm in the middle of C25K, which means that I'm barely breaking 2 miles. It's hard. BUT, it's getting easier. With this bit of info that after two miles it gets better? That's fantastic! I'm so excited to "be a runner." Another thing about running? MAH LEGZ, OMG. Ok, so, I still have quite a ways to go…

I cannot BELIEVE Michael Pollan wasn't mentioned on here!! "An Omnivore's Dilemma" is entertaining and has good info. "In Defense of Food" by Mr. Pollan is also fantastic. If you want straight up info, Marion Nestle's "What to Eat" is WONDERFUL (it is a TOME. I read it in chunks). Eye-opening info on the food industry also…

The oatmeal and yogurt is great! But maybe try Greek rather than light N fit (light N useless, in my opinion. Hardly ANY protein!). Throw an egg in there too to up your protein. Get a skim latte with no syrups for some milk if you need something on the run. I don't like the smell of the precooked chicken either. Have you…

I wish I could follow all your posts because I think I'm falling in love. Edit: In a totally-not-creepy way. I promise.

I only went back three days and I saw: Olive Garden, Chik-Fil-A, Doritos, and SONIC (eegads!). I would suggest not eating out so much. You're on the right track with the oatmeal breakfasts, but you need more protein! I'm not sure if you aren't logging everything or if because you're eating a lot of processed foods, you hit…

Hey, thanks for your reply :) I've received a couple of responses from the schools I e-mailed asking for info and I'm setting up an appointment to meet with an advisor from ASU. I looked into the local Community College, and unfortunately they don't offer any bio or chem classes at night. I'm going to talk to the ASU…

All-clad. They're heavy and they distribute heat evening. They're pricey, but I love mine. NO DISHWASHER though.

It's refreshing to hear a dietician giving advice that's with the times!

Roast those veggies! Brussel sprouts are particularly good when roasted with olive oil and a bit of kosher salt.

Thank you for my new favorite exclamation.

I really can't even imagine what you're saying, OP. I lost 75 lbs in 2008 and the attention and gushing was AMAZING and I loved it. After spending my whole adult life overweight, it was so fantastic to get that sort of attention. I gained 20 back and I was so mad at myself. I've since relost that 20, gaining admiration…

Is there any particular reason you're aiming for low fat?

I do this all the time! It's great.

While it is perhaps /technically/ true that as long as you're at your calorie limit you don't "need" to eat breakfast, it isn't advisable because the likelihood that you'll make poor choices or gorge because you're really hungry at high. On the weekends when I sleep in, I've found I'm not as hungry right away because I…

I really don't think coffee is going to cause a plateau. You've lost a lot of weight already and it's natural for the body to get stuck. There are a lot of good threads on plateauing. You'll have to experiment with new workouts, HIIT, and closely examining the foods you're eating to busy through. Also, sometimes it just…

Honey crisps have amazing flavor and texture. If you want good flavor with more denseness, Fujis are great. Gala are hit or miss for me.

Have you heard of the French Paradox? Where they have a very heavy diet but lowest rates of heart disease? Red wine, baby! I think as far as what's best, I steer clear of mixed drinks (except my beloved G&T). I'll drink everything neat or on the rocks to save calories. But red wine is still the best for pure health…

I don't let sodium bother me. It doesn't affect me as I have no heart issues and I don't retain fluids. There is research coming to light that higher sodium levels is not the enemy once thought (similar to cholesterol, fat and any number of nutrition bugaboos).…

On a serious note though, I've been enjoying 2 -3 drinks a week and losing steadily. I just factor it in. Red has more chemicals that are supposed to be miracle workers than white. The skins of the grapes which make it red add valuable things. Does all red give you a headache? There's a lot out there to try. :D

*Raises glass* :drinker: Tonic has quinine, too, so....no malaria! Huzzah. And the lime? Totally vitamin C.

It can work! I met my boyfriend online while he was deployed. We met after he got home and we did the long distance thing with visits as often as we could for a year. Then we lived together for a year before he deployed again. So it's totally doable, you just need to talk about what your expectations for communication are.…

Just saw your other post where you're 6'5! Dude! I'm 5'9 and I eat 1700 a day and I'm losing steadily. You need more food!! Do you have it set for 2 lbs a week? If so, try setting it for 1 for a more realistic way to lose. If you keep eating 1700 you'll burn yourself out and say to hell with losing weight. Seriously!

If you add more veggies to each meal, you can save items to spread out and have in case your hungry. I also will save my dessert for an hour or two after dinner. The 10 calorie jello cups are nice for before bed if you absolutely have to eat something, but they by no means ever make me feel "full!" I like getting the…

If you drive to the South about 3.5 hours (or less, depending on your foot!), you can come to Bisbee. It's a small town south of Fort Huachuca. It was an old mining town. Lots of history but now it's an "artists' town." Good restaurants, galleries, a neat old mine tour the kids would love (the guides are old men who worked…
