This. My mother had total renal failure in 2004 due to chemo and has been on dialysis since. I've had this conversation with her nephrologist before and he indeed confirms that higher protein does NOT do kidney damage to healthy kidneys. Already damaged kidneys (do to injury or trauma, hbp, chemo) are a different story. We…

I've found this too - I used to just slather it on, but 1 Tbsp turns out to be more than enough. I love mayo, wouldn't be happy not able to use it. That said, avocado and Greek yogurt are ok subs.

I always have precooked chicken breast and beef in the fridge, as well as other meats for snacks. How about hard boiled eggs? Deli meat? Various cheeses? Since you aren't vegetarian you can easily add a meat source to your meals and just cut down on portions of other items.

Lately I've been eating a Johnsonville turkey w/cheese sausage (120 cals) with carrots and grape tomatoes. I also regularly make 2-3 oz turkey with light mayo, mustard, spinach, thin tomato slices on a Joseph's pita - that comes out less than 200 cals and pretty filling.

Now THAT'S a dirty dozen!! Regarding the op, I'm not concerned in the least about organic - until I see scientific studies that show an organic fruit/vegetable has better nutrition than it's regularly produced counterpart, I refuse to pay the prices for organic.

Great job, very inspirational!

Great post - especially the not feeling middle-aged part! That's what I work for daily as well. And I love your accomplishment list.
-
Fantastic job! Congrats!

Lol, fabulous!! OP, just jump back on, it was one day - no guilt! Probably minimal damage if any. Really if you've been pretty diligent about 2100 cals up to that point, you probably have a good deficit banked up anyway.

Wait, are you talking about standard American diet or diet of active person? Because now you've brought up both. The food is actually the same in both, it's all about how the food is used. It's not irresponsible to say there aren't bad foods, it puts the *responsibility* on the user, not an inanimate object. With ed and…

Absolutely incorrect. I am very much into health & fitness, and am currently maintaining a 100+ lb weight loss while building lean muscle mass and I include items like this in my balanced diet with absolutely no detrimental effects to my health. OP, the foods you mentioned, as well as any other food, would not be good in…

Thank you for this thread, I'll be eagerly following. I've got to come out of a deficit but I'm not up for cut/bulk cycles so a recomp is what I'm bumping my cals up to currently.

dupe post, my iPad is being ridiculous

Oh they were! Wow, I haven't even thought of those in like 20 years!
-
What? Huh? What? If that's true I may tear the place down...lol
-
Cheetos, Doritos, Cheez Its - really any kind of cheesy salty snack. It's ridiculous how quickly things can get out of control around these.

This morning it was how I couldn't wait to get my Egg McMuffin while I was out. I'm not kidding. Form, counts, reps, making sure I'm hitting the muscles I'm working.

Yes Sir, this is a good read - thanks

I do weights 3x/wk for anywhere from 30-45 minutes, and cardio by either running (I prefer outside, for sure) or elliptical 3-4x/wk for 30-60 minutes depending on time.

It is! I use it on chicken, burgers, on sandwiches instead of mayo sometimes, meatballs... You can buy them at the restaurant. They sell all of their sauces by the bottles, 3/$14 iirc.

Buffalo Wild Wings Parmesan Garlic sauce. 60 cals for 15g (1Tbsp). Good stuff.
-
I like mixing it with greek yogurt, nuts & berries, coconut, whatever add-ins I feel like.
-
Totally agree - I love Science Babe, she's hilarious.

I pre-log just about every morning and adjust throughout the day when necessary. I have some basic constants that I eat fairly regularly (Joseph's pita w/turkey, cheese, mayo & lettuce; homemade meat sauce w/ vegetables; granny smith apple w/ almond butter; etc.). Pre-logging gives me the general calorie/macro counts for…

Greens are delicious cooked with bacon grease.

Absolutely this. So much time wasted stressing about food. The "Oh no, I've been naughty" psychological mind games I did to myself. So ridiculous.

I really can't think of any ways to "disguise", I always try to enhance flavors...with butter and olive oil especially. Play around with different herbs and seasonings. Cook or steam with stock and/or wine. Roast in oven. Add some (low fat) cheese maybe?

Lucky you. I get excited when ours goes on sale for $2.99.
