Some ideas - 1. use carved-out (CLEAN) pumpkins for your punch bowl/chips, etc. (I've made stew in a pumpkin and served it out of the pumpkin shell - it was really neat.) 2. Get fall leaves (from your front yard!), spray with glitter glue and tie with thread and hang them from the ceiling with thumb-tacks - have them hang…

Where are you going for dinner? Enjoy!

You CAN do it. I am a swimmer, and I used to give lessons through parks and rec - so I (hope) I know what I'm talking about  Swimming is not always intuitive, and you might get slower before you get faster/better - and that's ok! Give yourself 6 months to become conditioned to the water, and you will see that your…

Max - I think it has happened more than once - sounds like it's been going on for awhile. A lawsuit? Maybe not at this point, but something needs to be done because it is not right to let a child go hungry everyday.

I agree with you guys as well.... I was on Craigslist one day, reading the want ads, and one guy actually posted something like this "Wanted: Lady to have my baby. Doesn't matter age, weight, etc. I just want to have a baby. You get welfare benefits and I have stable job. Send me a message." I was like oh c'mon! Please,…

Anna Banana - for you: (read this in the paper today) Nebraska lawmakers agree on safe-haven age limit By NATE JENKINS Associated Press Writer Published: Monday, Oct. 20, 2008 LINCOLN, Neb. -- Stung by the abandonments of children as old as 17 under Nebraska's brand-new safe-haven law, the governor and lawmakers agreed…

Same here - they give the kids crackers and milk if they don't have a lunch. I was told that legally, the school district cannot NOT feed the kids (crackers and milk isn't much, but it's a lot more than nothing!)

I'm not wild about the paddles - most of the time when we have a pull set (meaning swim with pull buoy between your legs - no kicking, only arms), I do not use the paddles (neither do most of the swimmers I currently swim with). As ce_fit said, paddles do not necessarily build strength and I found that using the paddles…

I've noticed the same thing! If you look in my fridge/pantry - it seems kind of bare (compared to a few years ago when it was crammed with chips, crackers, etc.) and all the food we have are fruits/veggies (can't buy too much at one time), beans, rice, non-fat greek yogurt, etc. Now I plan out the week (with some…

I'm getting my BMR and body fat tested (water immersion) next month for $90! Can't wait. I do have a HRM, but I'm curious to see what my BMR is, and compare it to what MFP says.

So true!!! This isn't my story, but my best friend was watching her new born niece during a wedding (walking the stroller around the reception area while her brother and sister-in-law mingled), and she was also wearing the dreaded empire-waist shirt. An old lady came up to her, rubbed my friend's belly and said "Is this…

It depends on the swimmer - how tall you are, etc. The best thing is to take a baseline (meaning count the number of strokes you need per lap right now) and re-test in a month, or so. I think I started off at 21-ish, and now I'm down to 18. Really concentrate on stretching your arm out, rolling to the side, and "catching"…

Give your body time to adapt to swimming. I've been a swimmer all my life - so swimming two miles in an hour everyday is my idea of a "pretty good workout." However, ask me to get on a treadmill for 30 minutes at a 10 mph pace....watch my butt fly off and smack into the wall  I am SO not a runner, even though I'm…

How can you not eat chocolate in a long time??????? :noway: Well, if 2 hours is a long time, then I haven't had chocolate in a long time either! I must-must-must have chocolate everyday! I keep dark chocolate in my drawer at work, and a stash at home   my chocolate!!

Edited: I'm NOT the expert - just wanted to add my humble 2 cents  I'm a devoted Master's (USMS swim group) swimmer - and I also prefer to breathe every 4, but I try to use a variety of breath counts. I asked my coach about this, and the fewer breaths you take, the less energy you expend moving your head out of the…

I had the same problem! The library cannot keep this book on the shelf  So....I went to B&N today and bought it. Sorry for picking such a "difficult" book - I've been wanting to read this for such a long time as well. I'm going to start it tonight!!

When I bake bread - I "paint" the top with egg white, then sprinkle oats or poppy seeds (the egg whites help "glue" stuff to the bread.) You could probably do the same with a standard pretzel recipe - just paint it with a bit of egg white just before baking, and sprinkle with cinnamon/sugar.

Is he riding over the grass (actual bodies), or is there a paved road running through the cemetery? The larger cemeteries tend to have actual roads going through it for people to drive up to their deceased beloved, so it is a road - I think that is fine. Driving over the grass/bodies...uhhh, not so fine. You know in Mexico…

That's what I loved about the Blair Witch Project - it looked SO real!! I was shaking when I saw that (even though I knew it wasn't real), but wow! Same thing with The Ring - the visual effects, etc. I couldn't sleep after that movie.

Ohhh I LOVE cemeteries! Where ever we travel, I always make DH stop at the cemetery and I love to walk through the gravestones - reading the old inscriptions. I remember one inscription said something like, "Where you are, I once was. Where I am, You will soon be." I also take my children to the cemetery - I want them to…

Yes, I believe in ghost/spirits. I've had some experiences in the old house I grew up in - things like the bed shaking at night when no one else was in the room, things would disappear, and then reappear (looking for keys, and then they would be right where we just looked for them), etc. My sister and I created an ouija…

What she said! Ok, in all seriousness - these "icky" feelings might be your body's way of telling you that it's time to up the ante, and focus on YOU. A guy who disappears and goes incognito for months is probabaly not going to be able to give you the support and devotion you deserve. Sometimes it's good to be alone for a…

This story is for my husband... my husband used to play college football, and still eats like a football player, so he has quite a stomach - a large, round pot-belly  Anyways, when my son was younger (2-ish), we had a friend who was expecting, and I was explaining how babies grow inside the mama's tummy, etc. He…

Wow - everyone eats pretty late! We eat dinner at 4:30 (busy schedule), and bed by 9 PM (I get up at 4 AM). I like having dinner done early, so we can focus on homework, housework, etc. for the rest of the evening, and I may have a small snack after the kids go to sleep (8:30 PM on a good day). I use a crockpot, so we eat…

Yeah - it does get annoying hearing ...."Oh she's still on THAT diet" or "She won't eat x, y, z - cuz she's a health nut", etc. I also don't know how to respond to things like, "OMG you've lost a TON of weight!" What do you say? Yeah, I was a fat cow before - thanks for noticing. I just smile, and change the subject. I do…
-
Well, yes - when something comes out, you weigh less for the time being (just like you weigh less after going to the bathroom compared to right before), however your body will restore that fluid (blood, urine, etc.) loss over time, so I wouldn't be too attached to the lower number you might see right after donating. Like…
-
I agree with you! I also donate regularly (I'm O negative, so Blood Source loves me  ) and don't add calories for donating - but sometimes I just like to know how many calories out of curiosity though - ya know? Having enough fluids is so important (for me at least) - I have low BP, so if I don't drink enough I feel…

How long have you been doing this? And what is your speed when walking?
