If you intend to eat good whole foods, I can't see how you could possibly count calories without it. Otherwise you have to guess on fresh cuts of meat and all your produce.

Everything in moderation. It's a good fatty protein source. If you are eating a deficit, it's actually just as good for you to eat higher fat and lower carbs, as fat is a more satiating macronutrient.

Yes, losing muscle makes the scale go down just as much as losing fat.

whenever I can fit it into my day. I usually work 6 10's so it's totally erratic.

As a 28 year old male, it is very hard to believe that 1500 calories/day net is adequate for you. I'd try using the following site to set some new guidelines... http://www.1percentedge.com/ifcalc/

RFYL in Indy this year left a lot to be desired. Very poorly set up. Great concept, but execution was seriously lacking.

More often than not, the reason that people here stall when they add a lot of exercise is overestimating exercise calories and then eating back too much.

It's quite easy to lose weight without exercise, but you can virtually guarantee that you are losing just as much muscle as fat, so although you get lighter, you won't be in any better shape and won't really look all that much better.

To repeat: she didn't get that big training for the Olympics. She has always been a big girl. Her brother is a pro football player; her family are all predisposed to being big and strong. She played football in high school. She has only been Oly lifting competitively for like 3 years or something crazy like that. It's a…

Just a note of finer points here: Powerlifting and Olympic lifting are two totally different things. Technique is at least as important as raw power in Oly lifts; they are far more contingent on skill than the Big 3 powerlifting lifts. Most powerlifters DO fall into a bf% that most people would consider "overweight." Oly…

She has always been heavy, she just happens to also be VERY talented and EXTREMELY strong. She competes in the OLYMPICS in a sport. Consider her whatever you want; she IS an athlete. Like, the definition of one. Is she as healthy as she could be? Probably not. Is she better equipped for survival than, say, You or I? Almost…

Exactly what did you have to do to become a "registered dietitian?"

If you are trying to manage a caloric deficit and having issues with appetite control, replacing carb-heavy foods with protein or fat-heavy ones instead will generally make the calories you DO consume much more satisfying.

Sounds like you're talking about BMI ranges, which are silly, irrelevant, and sometimes even terrifying. Don't pay any attention to the scale at this point. Look at the mirror, the measuring tape, how your clothes fit, and how you feel.

There are more than a couple programs that call for sets of triples, doubles, or even singles. It's actually more common than you might think.

I think that most people "get" the concept of this. But any program that says you NEED to be able to do (implying TEACH) situps is silly.

FWIW gloves actually impair your ability to lift properly and get in the way of development of grip strength.
