thank you for that clarification, I understand better now. I hope that you're no longer depressed. I should have expressed that anyone should always seek advice from their doctor and follow that advice over the opinions of people in a message forum. In that you are very correct. good luck in all your efforts! JoJo

walking is awesome!!! there are some good "walk to lose" dvd's and cd's out there too. good luck and enjoy your walks! JoJo

this advice (to eat fewer processed foods) is not bad advice, but it is hard to do. It takes awhile to change not only how you eat but how you shop and how you stock your kitchen and how you prepare your meals. It certainly isn't advice that will give you a quick fix to put you on the fast track to losing weight. It may,…

Hi, You have the right idea that the closer you are to your goal weight the slower the weight will come off. I did peruse your food diary, not extensively far back but thru the last week or so. My observations: sodium: too high at over 2,000 mg regularily. MFP sets 2,500 as a "goal" but really that should be the extreme…

Thanks and you're welcome! Currently my favorite weight-loss CD is one that incorporates mindfulness and a yogic meditation. I'm not religious at all so I wondered if these approaches would work for me and they really do. My Norwegian relatives used to use the term mindful all the time: mind that you don't do this, or be…

Hi, I post about the benefits of self-hypnosis rather frequently. Approx 16 yrs ago I used self-hypnosis tapes to help me quit smoking. I listened to them daily for 6 months both the subliminal (all you hear is music and the sound of waves) and the talking message. When my target date arrived I stopped and never looked…

Hi and welcome to MFP!!! You've made the first right move by joining and recording what you eat, you've also made the 2nd right move by seeking support from the amazing people here to help! All the responses I've read to your post thus far are spot on and awesome, especially the woman who invited you to read her blog…

you're so very welcome juliane!

I totally agree! Weekends I plan to make enough food for most of the week: a soup, steel-cut oats, roasted beets and my salad dressing. Then when I get home in the evenings I put together my breakfast and lunch for the next day so I only have to grab it out of the fridge in the morning. Also, when I pack my lunch for the…

you're so welcome. I think we forget about being kind to ourselves. It takes practice not to beat yourself up about stuff. I also think when you're just starting out trying to do the weight loss dance its important to build self-compassion in to your program. I once had a self-hypnosis self-esteem building CD that had me…

Rule #1: avoid packaged and processed foods as much as possible Rule #2: read your labels closely and make choices based on the lowest sodium item available Rule #3: make your own food and don't add salt Rule #4: buy alternative spice blends like Mrs. Dash Rule #5: go to the hypertension web site to read about the DASH…

Thank you so much for posting this. Its very clear and very true. I spent some time yesterday wondering if I was losing fast enough and if I should try to change how I'm eating to induce a quicker loss. I was mostly contemplating an Atkins, extreme low carb type approach. While the idea of eating a lot of bacon and eggs is…

Hi and welcome! This place is incredibly supportive and full of people who want to cheer you on. By and large the people asking you to add them, or "friend" them have the desire to be part of your support group. It took awhile for me to feel comfortable adding people, but there's really no pressure. Just add people as you…

THANK YOU!!!! You inspire me. something you said about 1 day at a time reminded me of this quote I saw recently: yesterday is ashes tomorrow is wood today is where the fire burns brightly I like to think thats what burning is calories!!! thanks you again for posting. JoJo

I listen to weight-loss self-hypnosis CD's to fall asleep to every night. They are LOADED with positive messages. My favorites are: I am mindful of what I eat, I eat healthy, I am satisfied, I am confident, I am healthy and I am grateful. good luck and happy eating! JoJo

holy cow.....I can't get enough of them!!! I eat them 2 to 3 x a day!!! The hotter the better!

Hi Allison, I'm not playing the importance of exercise down, nor am I encouraging anyone to shun it, this is just my personal story: due to physical problems and budgetary restraints I don't / can't exercise. I have a desk job and so consider myself sedentary. I walk approx 20 minutes 3 - 4 days a week and on weekends I do…

Good job all you MFP veterans. I found the mostly civil discourse to be not unpleasant to read and admired what seemed to be a quest for facts. My concern in this discussion is not for the people who are well educated in these matters; rather it is for the many people, newly arrived on the site who are full of questions…

ME TOO!!!!!!!!!!! I TOTALLY crave spinach and arugula!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've got one of those vacuum thingies that pumps the air out of the bottle and puts a top on it so it'll last in the fridge! although...ahem....I rarely open a bottle I don't intend to finish! could be why I switched to boxes....rofl!

Hi, Welcome to MFP! It may take awhile to get familiar with how to use all the tools. If you're making the salad you can use the recipe tool under the food tab to figure out all the nutritionals on what you made. If you're trying to just decide whether to use cous cous or rice you can enter one than the other in the data…

Hey There Ms. Riverside! I've been here and not even lurking. I'm sure I post my opinions more often than people want to hear them, lol! I'm always glad to see your posts and always read them. We must be on similar wavelengths. I like how you think! I kind of view the forums like I'd view a support group....grumpy to go to…

thank you for this post. I have a friend who became very ill after running a marathon on a hot day. She lost too much sodium, ended up in the ER! I remember when I was a kid at summer camp they'd give us salt tablets on really hot days to compensate for our intense activities that no doubt caused us to sweat out our…

some times the lettuce mixes have different kinds that slim out more quickly than the others in the mix. I tend to buy a bag of spinach and a bag of arugula and keep them separate. I am a 1 person household and I eat a large salad daily, so I blow thru about 10oz a week anyway. enjoy your greens!!!

welcome to LushLand where sometimes we're dry and.....sometimes we're not! LOL Sass, same here I gain and lose the same weight every week.....BUT I lose just a tad more than I gain and that's good. For now my policy is Sunday thru Thursday no drinks.....so come Friday....WATCHOUT FOR JOJO! This may change when softball…

So, after losing approx 40 lbs very slowly over the course of a year (yep, that's only .77 lbs / wk) people have started noticing and have asked me how I did it / do it (I'm not done, have at least 40 more to go). The very FIRST thing I tell them is that I figured out: You've Got To EAT To Lose. I get a lot of blank…

Omnivore's Dilemma by Michael Pollan is awesome, but the first book I read by him was soooo beautiful and lyrical and still all about food: The Botany Of Desire. I bought it for all my friends. Now, these two books my be off-beat and they are NOVELS to boot, but they are great and thought provoking books about food, food…

agreed, Monsanto is the problem....if the people/institutions they bully can't always stand up to them successfully it doesn't mean those people or institutions are "bad" per se.

I completely agree. I can NEVER find adequate produce at TJ's and since that's the majority of what I buy for groceries I never even bother shopping there.
