MFP sets your sodium "goal" at 2,500 mg / day. Most experts now recommend that you stay UNDER 2,000 mg sodium / day with a preference to aim for 1,500. To accomplish this you really have to reduce the amounts of processed, pre-packaged foods you consume and read labels like crazy and understand what the recommend portion…

I'd buy what I know I need and will use. Or, a big bottle of Nordic Naturals fish oil (costs around $50.00), you'd be getting a good bargain!

before you go thru the myriad experiences of everyone else I suggest you speak with a doctor or a GOOD physical therapist. now for my story: I had a knee pain issue for YEARS before it was correctly diagnosed (a doc, an orthopedic surgeon and the first PT I went to all missed the diagnosis). I believe they looked at me; a…

first of all......its my understanding that charlie horses/muscle cramps are due to insufficient magnesium and not enough hydration. I take calcium plus magnesium supplements daily and keep homeopathic magnesium / quinine tablets (from a company called Hyland) by my bed for when they rip me out of my sleep (I have suffered…

are you a Star Trek fan? you name reminds me of one of my favorite quotes from an alien about humans. welcome and happy eating!

It may help to understand a little bit about the biochemistry involved. Here's a great link about "decision making fatigue" from the New York Times. It discusses some of the effect this can have on people trying to lose weight. Essentially (its a long article) your brain requires glucose to function AND to fuel your will…

I've got several, this one is my favorite: Guided Meditation Using Self Hypnosis Techniques and Yoga Nidra Relaxation for Weight Loss by Splendor of Meditation and Dr. Siddharth Ashvin Shah
-
Hypnosis is widely accepted even in the main-stream medical community as beneficial in many situations, even pain control. I quit smoking 20 years ago (after heavily smoking for 20 yrs) after 3 months of listening to self-hypnosis quit smoking tapes. I quit easily, painlessly and I've never looked back. Even other people…

same here, but spell check usually helps out with the excersize word, LOL

when you said you "looked on the internet and found mostly expensive veggies and foods recommended" I'm wondering if you read through all the information about the DASH diet (the recommended diet for high blood pressure) (here's a link: http://dashdiet.org/sample_menu.asp). Maybe you're finding "clean" eating expensive and…

I make a big batch of steel-cut oats on Sundays: 1 cup steel-cuts 4 cups water a dash of salt a dash of cinnamon a dash of cacao powder place in 300 - 310 degree oven stir every 20 minutes until water is absorbed (usually takes 3 or 4 stirrings) then in the mornings I dish out some to take to work and doctor with: more…

I know! I sometimes get "reply" fatigue for repetitive issues, but I figure that people deserve answers (they may not have been around last time the topic was on top). I tell them that if they've got the other sugar in their life under control and they're not under a doctor's orders to track it and if they're eating…
-
I totally agree! I used to track my sugar and it was frustrating to see it was always over due to fruit consumption. I decided that since I'd made elimination of processed foods a priority that the sweeteners in these items wasn't going to effect me. The only sweetener I use now beyond my fruit consumption is raw coconut…

me too, I made some energy bars with tahini recently and my jar of tahini didn't list potassium so I created my own tahini that included potassium that I found by researching other tahini options. my favorite yogurt doesn't list potassium, I even emailed them but received no answer. I'm pretty much assuming that many of…

this is true, I've just decided that since I have limited calories allowed to me each day that I want each calorie I consume to be a nutritious as possible. thanks, JoJo
-
First: I make sure I'm not hungry when I'm at work; that I've eaten a nutritious breakfast and that my lunch is "in the bag" and I know it will be good. Second: usually our treats are passive, just on the counter should you care to indulge, but when someone pushes me to imbibe I usually say no thanks and if they continue…

I decided to try chia seeds after reading these posts. Someone on here mentioned the website nutsonline.com so I browsed through there and found an item they offered called chia seed energy bars. I perused the ingredients and decided to concoct my own recipe. Here's what I used: chopped dates, unsulphured dried apricots,…

Hi Michelle and welcome to the forum! You may want to do a "search" (option is in the header above) on eating back exercise calories to read up on the debate. One theory that is worth drawing to your attention is that eating back those exercise calories when you're starting out (if you have over 50 lbs to lose) is less…

You're welcome! I'm very interested in the psychology of weight-loss so I read everything I can about it. I have started a hot tea during my bath routine since the weather turned cold in Minnesota. It reduces my urge to snack and pour too many glasses of wine. I also listen to deep-relaxation, mindfulness CD's at bedtime.…

ditto to the Gaiam DVD The Ana Caban program shows 3 women at the same time doing beginner, intermediate and advanced so you can see how they differ
-
after you've consumed your allotted calories and you're done eating for the day, floss and brush your teeth. That kind of puts the kabosh on more consumption.
-
I also got that you need to work on your head game when attempting to change how you eat for long term results. Its important to change the "self-talk" and previously programmed messages you tell yourself. just my opinion.

I googled Deanna Nunez. She is called The Hypno-Chick. I was hoping she had CD's you could buy, but I couldn't find any. You can pay $300 dollars for a 90 minute session that comes with a free CD. Maybe someone can find used CD's on Amazon or Craigs or EBay....I'll keep looking.

unless you're buying whole wheat cous cous you're buying the same refined flour composite as regular white pasta. they make a very nice quinoa pasta that acts very much like regular pasta I also use millet instead of rice and its so healthy and tasty! good luck, JoJo

I quit smoking 18 yrs ago thru self-hypnosis tape recordings. I've also bought several self-hypnosis deep relax weight-loss CDs and listen to them frequently. I love them! I think its a good idea to get your sub-conscious working with you on the weight-loss project. The messages are extremely positive and reprogramming…
