Just happened upon an article talking about food myths concerning weight loss- sugar is not the devil, especially when its comes to eating fruit!

"5. Myth: Fruit Has too Much Sugar to Eat for Weight Loss
With all the sugar that is added to processed foods, the sugar in fruit is the least of your worries. Getting rid of fruit means you are losing out on valuable vitamins and nutrients that your body absorbs easily since they're found in their natural, whole state. "Eliminating fruit from your diet when trying to lose weight makes no sense," Batayneh says. You’ll miss out on a whole lot of filling fiber, which studies have directly linked to long-term weight loss, and you may be more likely to reach for other processed, empty food items instead."

Very True. The carbs and sugar in Fruit are natural. Cut out the carbs and sugar in the man made stuff!

My diet is 50-60% carbs, almost all grains and fruit.. and I've dropped 45#!! No diet, no fad, just good, common sense nutrition!
  • My go to snack food when I am hungry and craving something bad is a mandarin orange or an apple. It boggles my mind that anyone can say fruit doesn't assist in healthy weight loss or that anyone can believe it.

I totally agree! I used to track my sugar and it was frustrating to see it was always over due to fruit consumption. I decided that since I'd made elimination of processed foods a priority that the sweeteners in these items wasn't going to effect me. The only sweetener I use now beyond my fruit consumption is raw coconut crystals (1 tablespoon on my oatmeal in the morning and 1 tablespoon in my weekly batch of salad dressing) and honey (1 tablespoon in my weekly batch of home-made salad dressing). That's it, no fake sweeteners for anything for any reason!

I believe fruit contributes so much in terms of micro nutrients and fiber to your diet that eliminating them would be a bad thing. I'm one of those people who believes that since I limit the number of calories I consume in a day, then those calories I do consume need to be as dense in nutritional value as possible!

    Thanks for your post!

Very true. Although I'm sure we'll continue to see topics like "Help! fruit makes me go over in sugar!" :noway:

I know! I sometimes get "reply" fatigue for repetitive issues, but I figure that people deserve answers (they may not have been around last time the topic was on top). I tell them that if they've got the other sugar in their life under control and they're not under a doctor's orders to track it and if they're eating healthy , then stop monitoring it! Use that space to monitor something like sodium, or potassium.
