  • Yes, I too listen to guided meditation and self-hypnosis weight-loss CD's, mostly at night. My current fav is: Guided Meditation Using Self Hypnosis Techniques and Yoga Nidra Relaxation for Weight Loss by Splendor of Meditation. I may need to get the Kelly Howell one as well just to mix it up some. I love the concept of…
  • I quit smoking using self-hypnosis CD's...listened to them for 6 months straight, daily, then I quit and haven't smoked since. I've been doing the same thing with weight-loss. I listen to a variety of self-hypnosis weight-loss and self esteem CD's every night. A friend of mine studied hypnosis in medical school for…
  • Personally I think this is a great debate to be having. As the beacon of scrutiny has focused on sugar and the various ways we consume it I've been wondering (after watching Sugar The Bitter Truth and reading the NYT's article Is Sugar Toxic) if we don't need to track sugar differently. Would it matter if we tracked…
  • I feel the need to speak as an "expert" of sorts. I worked in ingredient manufacturing for 9 yrs specializing in the manufacturing of wheat; specifically durum wheat which is used to make semolina for pasta and couscous. To make flour or semolina you take the wheat and grind it up. If NOTHING is removed in that process…
  • CONGRATS!!! I'm focusing on putting the 180's in my rearview mirror as well! Can't wait to get there. Enjoy the moment!
  • Its hard not to be panicky with all you have going on, with the pressure you put on yourself to meet your goals. But, truth is, losing weight is a process...not a single event. It can't be scheduled and accomplished and over and done with according to your calendar. Once you adjust your expectations and make changes to…
  • I totally agree. I make a big pot of soup on Sunday and eat from it all week. I usually put a bowl or two away in the freezer for the weekend when don't have time to cook. I find that its not only satisfying but it takes longer to eat and you can savor each spoonful, as opposed to a sandwich that can be gone in 4 bites.…
  • loss of gall bladder, life, etc.... you're right she is in need of help and guidance. I hope she is capable of examining her current status, gathering good information and seeking professional help. we can only strongly suggest that she do these things. If I was her sister, though, I'd be driving her to the doctor right…
  • Good thoughts. I think, though, that it can be said this is a "forum"....a place where ideas are exchanged, sometimes it may seem to be just presenting one's own opinions about others, but many posters feel like they are responding to others and that their response was invited. I really only care about open diaries when…
  • my very humble opinion is: set your activity level to sedentary (if that best describes you) then log any waitressing time or other exercise so it'll count as activity in your logs. If you have a hard time assessing your activity then a pedometer or Heart Rate Monitor should be very helpful. good luck!
  • everyone should read this and then go to youtube to watch Dr. Lustig's Sugar: The Bitter Truth
  • maybe once a week or so I'll have a slice or two of 100% sourdough rye bread, I also use corn tortillas on occasion.
  • I totally agree. In addition, you should replace any juice or pop you drink with water. Avoiding fast food and processed foods will help reduce sodium. Sodium can be a huge culprit when it comes to scale results. MFP usually set 2,500 mg/day as a "goal". Really, that should be the outmost outter limit, most experts now say…
  • Hi, I think the head game is a huge part of the weight-loss effort. I listen to self-hypnosis weight-loss CD's at bedtime. The messages are all very positive and helpful. The approach I use is basically replacing "mindless" eating with "mindful" eating. The CD's give me great affirmations and help me to relax and absorb…
  • Hi, Due to some injuries I've been unable to exercise for most of my weight-loss "journey". You can lose weight without exercise although it takes longer. Last year I lost 40 lbs with no more exercise than an occasional 20 minute walk. While your injury is healing perhaps you can concentrate on your diet and how to eat…
  • just out of curiousity why is your daily calorie goal set so high? And if so, why are you eating so far below it? Do you need to revisit your goals? I would encourage you to AT LEAST eat 1200 cal a day and if you exercise eat most if not all of those exercise calories back. 1200 has a built in deficit, if you exercise you…
  • I hear ya.... maybe eating in a more healthy, mindful matter, tracking what you eat and engaging in some good physical exercise will get you in shape. It can't hurt! You may not see the inches change as quickly as you'd like, but being healthy is a reward in and of itself!
  • you don't state starting weight, just that you want to lose 10 lbs. maybe you are already at an ideal weight....its harder to lose weight when you're already at or close to your ideal healthy weight. maybe you need to reexamine your goals to determine if you really need to lose weight, or what your ideal goal weight should…
  • everyone should read this article! It totally schools you on the difference between sugar as an additive and naturally occurring sugars in fruits and veg.
  • I posted this on a similar thread earlier today, hope it helps: Pain and illness can be very tough to work through and to not allow them to sap you. You may feel your strength being sapped from you and you may feel angry at the workouts you missed or can't do or need to change and it can feel like a big block in your road.…
  • you'd be surprised how many people have quoted the twinkie diet as evidence that what you eat doesn't matter and that the calories in vs. calories out theory works and doesn't care what constitutes the calories.
  • yes, I've read a book by a cardiologist who was doctor to some pro football team that claimed fish oil was indeed incredibly important to your body's well-being, especially in fighting inflammation. I take it every day, I spend money on a very good brand: Nordic Naturals. They have a very informative website:…

  • to echo others: good question personal philosophies seem to be trending for responses so here's mine: if I'm going to limit the number of calories I eat in a day I am going to make each of those calories be as nutritionally dense as possible in order to support my body's ability to function well. good luck and happy eating!
  • Hi, If you could open your food diary to public viewing it would give us something more concrete to comment on. However, to answer your question about sodium: 1st of all: are you tracking it on your diary? If so, make sure you don't AIM to hit 2,500 mg / day. The MFP sets that as a "goal" but really that should be…
  • Hi Amy, Pain and illness can be very tough to work through and to not allow them to sap you. You may feel your strength being sapped from you and you may feel angry at the workouts you missed or can't do or need to change and it can feel like a big block in your road. You can take a breath and let go of the things you're…
  • you should see what was offered at my office this morning.....someone's birthday....boxes and boxes and boxes of caramel rolls, donuts, eclairs, oooy goooy twisty things, cupcakes, jelly filled such and such.... it was WAY more than the usual (I bet someone brings in fried sugary stuff at least twice a week). I always…
  • Hi, I think you're doing great! In the beginning I think we're all a tad bit impatient to see quick results. You didn't put 60 lbs on in 3 months, it won't come off that quickly either. It may help to view the changes you're making as long term rather than short term. You are becoming accustomed to a better, healthier way…
  • if you click on "search" in the options above and type in "17 day diet" quite a few threads appear. good luck!
  • here's the link: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-1375565/Blueberries-slash-bodys-fat-cells-quarters.html I put frozen wild blueberries in my steel-cut oats every morning....DELISH!
  • Yes, I meditate and listen to self-hypnosis weight-loss meditation CD's at night, my favorite: Splendors of Meditation for weight-loss. Its all about the MINDFULNESS of eating as opposed to mindLESS eating. good luck and happy eating! JoJo
