  • No it's not. Drink some whole milk. Have a bowl of rice or a handful of nuts. Have some toast with peanut butter. If it were hard to eat an extra 500-1000 calories, there wouldn't be so many overweight folks around. One of those cinnamon bagels from Paneras is almost 600 calories!
  • Or a big glass of milk or oj and some toast.
  • I used a fitbit zip and now have an apple watch. I eat back whatever part of my exercise calories I'm hungry for. I did that during weight loss and for 3 years of maintenance. It has worked fine for me. The zip was inexpensive ($35 on ebay) and just counted steps. I logged anything more energetic (swimming) that it didn't…
  • 3 days of 650? Why? This sounds way too complicated. Why don't you just have weekly goals you meet and try to listen to your body with a little extra guidance from MFP?
  • +1 You can't average your goal and never go over. There are lots of days I'm under. I always hit the weekly goals.
  • The ones I loved and the staples I kept, the others I gave away. I altered my favorite blouses and pants. I found that new pants from Goodwill made me look much slimmer. Belts and scarves and sweaters that fit with a little altering can let your wear shirts and blouses for a while. Then slowly replace things one…
  • I went up 250 calories of my 500 calorie deficit until I started to lose at that deficit. I didn't lose anything. One word of advice: It's easy to add in lots of simple carbs (sugar, white flour, potatoes, etc.) That won't make you fat, but it can make you hold water. So add relatively more of your calories from protein…
  • My mom did the first 3 years after I lost ("you're too skinny!") until my brother looked at her and said - Mom, she's the only one in the room who's a normal weight and you're picking on HER? The rest of us are fat. She never said anything again. If your numbers look healthy, be comfortable with it. They aren't really…
  • And I completely agree about measurements. I lost several inches off my weight and a couple off my hips after I stopped losing weight.
  • YOU can do that, the program doesn't. Just keep following your plan and make sure your weight stays in the center of your goal range.
  • I bought a scale when I started MFP 4 year ago and weigh every day. I just step on it every morning, knowing I'm going to bounce around. I have a 5 pound weight zone which is 'at goal' and celebrate every morning I'm in it. That way there's no pressure for a weekly or monthly weigh in. Instead of reducing my deficit, I set…
  • Tell them to cut it out. We all have our gigs. You're happy, go with it.
  • I ate the same things I do now - I had pretty good habits, which is why I didn't try to lose until I was in my 50's. But I ate more of things. Portion size was my thing.
  • I don't do cheat anything. I do set weekly goals, not daily ones. I know from doing this several years that I usually am over a few hundred Friday night, and am almost never over during the week. I have learned to watch my appetite so find I'm not hungry after a big day and just go with that. All this time the only week…
  • I only started losing when I got out of the healthy BMI range in my 50's and hit the bottom of 'overweight'. I'm now at 21-22- that's the same weight I was when I graduated from college.
  • Binge eating IS unhealthy. It's a clinical symptom of an eating disorder. Eating more one some days than others is called life.
  • I really recommend having a weight 'zone' that you stay in that includes your fluctuations. So my zone is 150-155. My fluctuations are around 2 pounds. Last year I was 156-157 for a few weeks so went on a 250 calorie deficit until I got back into it.
  • I've been maintaining several years and log everything. I have eaten a ton of salt and had gained 10 pounds in a week as of yesterday. But of course that's silly - that would be 35000 extra calories, and I have been over by 600. But this morning I was down 4 (still up 6). Why? Pee and bowel movements.
  • No, it was much better and much easier than I expected. And I wanted and needed to exercise more.
  • Habit. It doesn't have to be in the game. I just have to do it - and I just do. My life is set up so I eat healthy and exercise pretty regularly. I notice when I don't feel good when I eat too much (last week for example). And I stop doing it. Logging helps.
  • I completely agree. The sooner you get it the easier it will be. You want to be mentally and physically healthy and to be happy with who you are. It's a hard journey to take on your own. Get the help of a professional. You won't regret it.
  • I do it every morning BECAUSE of daily fluctuation. I know I'm going to bobble around. I stay in my range. If I weighed once a month, I'd worry about getting a particularly high or low day. Weighing every day, I know where I am and I don't think about it.
  • Congratulations! You are not eligible to join the National Weight Loss Registry, which tries to find out how people keep weight off successfully. Google it. It was one of my goals to join and I still find it motiviating.
  • The NIH has one though. Try this: http://www.nih.gov/news-events/news-releases/nih-research-model-predicts-weight-varying-diet-exercise-changes It's actually what got my started several years ago. I decided that it was going to take a lot less than I thought. It took me 7 months to lose - 2 weeks more than the model…
  • But bloat after running can just be because it gets your gut moving. You may simply need more fiber and water. Metamucil is a simple easy help for bloat.

  • My son has clear medical documentation of what is called 'leaky gut' (inability to digest tyramine/histamine, chronic serious inflammation, gluten/dairy/egg sensitivity, a whole raft of dietary deficiencies despite supplements) that causes chronic severe migraine and pain. Exercise was recommended by my son's neurologist,…

  • I think photos give you some objective information. It's what made me lose - the mirror didn't. The key isn't how thin you are, it's that you say you look unhealthy. I have two kids with really really low BMI, but they usually look really healthy. At one point, one of them (who just come home from the Peace Corps) looked…
  • I upped by 250, was maintaining, and kept it there (I was comfortable eating that much) until I started to lose again. It took almost a year. Then I upped some more.
  • I understand. My son spent yesterday whimpering in the dark from high sensitivies and migraines. Pain meds don't work for him so he doesn't even bother taking them. He's usually awesome at dealing with the pain and sensitivities - he has had excellent training from a clinical pain specialist (which I highly highly…

  • My son - and the whole family - is on a low tyramine/histamine diet because of my son's severe migraines. Also no gluten/egg/cow dairy because of tested sensitivities. Good thing my husband and I love to cook. It's not hard once you start. Don't think about what you can't eat, think about what you can. I'm sure you have a…
