I get that. I always used the Civil War as the definer, and if a state was part of the Confederacy, then, to me, it is considered southern. I can kind of see it as being "southwest" from a regional standpoint. but at the same time, it has south in the name.

how is Texas not southern? I'm from WV which is technically southern, though we seceded from VA because of the Civil War and wanting to be a member of the Union... so... I don't know about us. I wouldn't consider myself southern, but I know plenty of people in this state who would. I'm not sure what I am trying to say.
