It was an awesome analogy.

If you think that fat shaming would help you, personally, go for it. Pride can be an important factor for some. If shaming doesn't work and you want a positive motivational pep talk, hit me up.

I find it less stressful to measure and log than to wonder if eating a piece of cheese will put me over my calorie goal. That doesn't mean that I never miss a day, but my grand plan is to measure and log for life.

I think I must have been addicted to coffee. The headache I got from withdrawing from it was mild and only happened for three days, so my dependence was minimal. The ramifications of not being able to pour another cup of coffee into my mouth when I'm bored, stressed, emotional, or tired, are still reverberating through my…

The advantage of being keto adapted is that you're better at using your body fat to fuel your exercise, and we're all carrying around more of that than we need for a marathon. Since you're just started to train, maybe it would be a good time to experiment with whether you really need any snacks at all. Here's a good…

The Bt toxin must bind to specific receptors that only the target insect species has, in order to selectively attack cells in the lining of the corn borers gut. Single celled bacteria and archeae in our guts don't have a gut, or those receptors. Single celled eukaryotes in our gut, like yeast, don't have them either. The…

Our disagreement is starting to sound more semantic. I don't remember what paper I was reading. I've been treated for an eating disorder, and still get treatment for my broader issue. So I look them up from time to time. There are a lot of papers on the topic, whether you feel that eating disorder are separate from, but…

Three weeks is very little time to start showing a weight loss. I know keto is supposed to be different that way, but I suspect that some people lose quickly and others do what I do, which is to plateau immediately, show some loss later, maybe in 6 weeks, and then plateau again.

Then you disagree with the researchers who think anorexia is a type of OCD, and that's fine. Time will tell. The DSM lags behind research.
-
And that is frustrating, because "the immune system attacking the body" is too broad and vague to be a mechanism of disease. There are a lot of different cells and substances that are part of the immune system, and many different ways that different aspects of immune response can cause damage.

OCD isn't an eating disorder. The current thinking on eating disorders is that they are a type of OCD.

It should go without saying, but people diminish and misinterpret unseen medical conditions all the time.
-
I'm saying that you can be on a restrictive diet, even one that cuts out fruit and vegetables, without being orthorexic. People can have medical reasons for not eating vegetables. I think that avoiding social situations might be a flag for orthorexia, though I admit that someone having trouble sticking to a diet for…

I don't avoid social situations. I take my own food. And there's nothing unhealthy about cutting out sugar and grains, which contain nothing and little, respectively, in the way of nutrients, other than calories.

If you Anorexia is related to OCD.

Yay reading!!!! I'm going retro, and reading The Stepford Wives. I just finished The Whites, which is probably the best "mystery" I've ever read. Pro tip: if you feel guilty about the time you spend reading and not moving, read on a recumbent stationary bike.

Since I can't see your diary: do you have a calorie goal, and if so, what is it? Some people can eat whatever they want on keto, because they don't eat for emotional reasons or out of boredom, and they don't feel hungry if they eat a lot of fat. I'm not like that. I need a limit. P.S. We're about the same height and my…

Weirdo that I am, nothing satisfies me except protein, not veggies, fruit, or fat. I make protein powder pancakes that seem kind of high carb for a low carb diet, except that most of the carbs are fiber. Protein powder bread is good too. I sometimes forget it's low carb and think I shouldn't be eating it.

Your gene expression is your DNA + your regulation of DNA, RNA, and proteins. You could have a gene that is never expressed, because it's bound up by a repressor, or a gene that is expressed, but mitigated by the effects of what you eat and do. My genetic thing is high cholesterol. Mine is high, has always been high,…

Stress and genetics aren't immutable though. There's meditation, biofeedback, visualization, getting a regular massage, cognitive behavioral therapy (which I did specifically for a disorder that you and I share that involves the stress axis of the body), and plain old setting aside time to do whatever relaxes you. Genetics…

I managed 20 to 30 miles a day, with hills, a backpack, carrying my own food, clothing and sleeping gear, at 8000+ of altitude, as an 11 year old. You're the expert on you - I certainly wouldn't discourage it, based on your fitness. It sounds really fun!

Glyphosate is used on a lot more crops than GMOs.

Some people hang onto more salt than others. You've probably already tried cutting out caffeine and/or alcohol, stress reduction, increasing potassium, considered taking a mild, potassium sparing diuretic, and monitered your blood pressure at home to find your own triggers. On the plus side, your weight loss is amazing!

Yay for healing! IC has a largely unknown etiology, and is not definitively considered to be an autoimmune disease. Symptoms most definitely can go away, especially if you avoid foods and medications that cause flares. They can come back, but there is such a thing as acute cystitis too, which goes away.

That's still a blood pressure issue, related to fluid volume in the blood and extracellular compartments. Most people don't have problems with salt and blood pressure. People who do should limit their salt intake.

Check out Strong Curves, and bretcontreras.com - it's the sacred text of butt exercise.

Maybe you're pushing too hard. If I don't take enough time to recover from a workout, I don't feel good. We get a lot of messages to give every workout our all. In reality, I need an easy day every other day.

I ate sticky rice for lunch and felt fine, but didn't want anything other than a spoonful of peanut butter for dinner, and can't stop thinking about delicious, fatty, salty peanut butter.
-
I got into trouble using powdered erythritol to make yummy peanut butter treats, but it would probably be fine for most people. I liked the sweetness and the texture.

No worries. I wish there were better treatments for your illness. I dislike pseudoscience too.
