Try to join a fitness center with a pool, the YWCA/YMCA will actually give you a sliding scale of membership fee so if money is that tight, you don't have to pay the entire fee. Otherwise, after your current flare subsides, I would consider buying a recumbent bike for home use. Check out your local Sports store to see what…

I had decided that for every 5 pounds lost, I would treat myself to a deep tissue massage. Since I just got my first 5 off, now I need to go find someone, the one MT I know stopped doing deep tissue, think she was having hand problems. Anyone tried this new chain called "Massage Envy"? Just want to make sure they are…

Can't see your food diary so not sure exactly how you are eating. Agree with other poster: make sure you are getting 25 to 30 gm fiber per day (you can track it on MFP as one of your dietary numbers). MFP tends to give a low automatic fiber count, it gave me only 14 gm for a 1200 cal diet. Change it manually! In addition…

Honeycrisp apples when in season; juicy sweet and a little tart all at same time! Fresh blackberries and raspberries year round: on morning bran cereal or with frozen yogurt at night. Organic bananas just cause the type Vons carries are a little smaller than regular ones and *taste better*! Bing cherries just came into…

Thanks, you made me laugh! I would be out there with the lighter fluid but they all live 2000 miles away!!

Hey Elle, maybe this will make you feel a little better: my dad and stepmother printed a photo BOOK last year with the most horrid picture of me and distributed it to all the relatives. No "untagging" that! I did ask them NOT to post it to FB. (BTW they did have lots of photos that were much more flattering!)

Cool and dry 57 degrees at night, warming to clear sunny temps to 85 deg, then slight cooling trend over weekend. (southern California, slightly inland)

MFP has its protein requirements set at 15%. Excellent article in JAMA on low glycemic index diet, see article and video at: http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-504763_162-57461950-10391704/low-glycemic-index-diet-may-be-best-at-keeping-off-pounds/

Oh Linder, you are right on the money, for my upper body free weights, I am using only 4lb for shoulder, delts and triceps, 7lbs for biceps. The machines are hard to compare as every machine is different, but most I am at the first plate (usually 10 lb, but it is on a pulley system so not really same as lifting 10 lbs of…

Thanks for your response! For sure you can lose weight with walking, sounds like you have a good program going. I have to force myself to get out of bed every day. I can't do a walking program as I have severe lower back pain from osteoarthritis (combo of a partially herniated disc, narrowed central canal and one vertebra…

You're not eating enough, not drinking enough...and are taking phentermine (Adipex) and another diet pill called Xyngular. I would go right to the urgent care, you might need IV fluids and you might be having a severe reaction to one or both of these drugs.

Where can you buy the Lunch Lockers? Sounds like a great idea!

What type of fish fillet was it? The only kind I really really like is fresh salmon; I put a little EVOO (extra-virgin olive oil) in pan then slice up shallots and carmelize them. Wash fish, pat dry and add to pan. Put in a few sprigs of fresh dill (or some dried if needed), few slices of lemon, pour in a little white…

OMG Eat more, your last 2 days you have only posted under 1000, like 800 one day and then 900 calories. Eat more!

Watch out with the tea though as when I drink it right before bed I am guaranteed to wake up to run to bathroom! Maybe Chamomile doesn't do this as I don't think it has caffeine.

LOVE gummy vitamins!! I took a kids brand for a few months, finally found a multivitamin for women that is yummy, "Vitafusion Women's Complete Muitivitamin Formula with Bone and Metabolism Support", flavor is "mixed berries". The other gummy I take is Walgreen's Fiber Select Gummies, a fiber supplement but label also…

When I was in somewhat similar situation in High School regarding healthy food availability, I used to buy my own groceries and label them with my name so my six other family members wouldn't eat them. I worked part-time so I had a little of my own money.

Yeah! Love swimming, how many laps are you doing/how long do you swim for? I'm in a 25 yard pool and just began swimming again 5 weeks ago after a 3 year lay-off. But I'm only swimming one day per week, the other two days at the gym I do recumbent bike for 30 min and then lift weights. (I have fibromyalgia so I have to be…

OK, what is pb2 and where do you order it online?

Is this your primary care doctor, family practice? I would try a different primary care doctor and also see if you can get referred to a rhematologist. Watch out for all that Tylenol, new guidelines recommend no more than 3 gm per day. There are two FDA approved meds specifically for fibro, Lyrica and Savella. Plus Ultram…

Goals for today: Get to the pool and swim at least 22 laps (30 if I can!) Track my food Eat more protein!

Lean Cuisine now makes frozen meals called "Market Collection", they are in bags that release steam when microwaved. They are the best frozen meals I have ever had, the two I recommend have lots of veggies, some pasta and chicken in them for an approx total of 300 cal, 7 gm fat, 5 gm fiber, 23 gm protein and under 700 gm…

Oh, yes, if it is between knee and foot ONLY, then more likely to be "shin splints" which affects the muscles/tendons BUT it could also be a stress fracture in the bone, especially if you have been jogging on pavement. See your doctor!

If it's a burning pain on the outside of one leg, it might be sciatica (referred pain from lower back) from disc or muscle spasm in lower back. I would go see your family doctor (MD) for an exam and diagnosis. Might just be muscle strain if it is in both legs or inside of leg. For after you recover: It's better to do some…

I don't like cottage cheese by itself for with fruit. BUT I love it on toasted whole wheat English muffins! I buy the lowfat 2% which tastes better and must have SMALL CURD, texture is much nicer, very creamy.

I used to belong to a YWCA in Boston area that had certain times when women (only) could swim in the nude.

Should be illegal but then companies are allowed to require that job applicants not be unemployed! Ads say "Do not apply if you are unemployed". My friend an RN has been looking for work for 2 years, she is not overweight but left her old position to move with her husband to other county. I didn't believe her at first when…

I love cottage cheese (only 2% lowfat and small curd) on toasted whole wheat English muffins.

MFP doesn't let you choose how fast to lose the weight, it calculates it for you after you put in the other variables. My BMR is under 1600 so originally MFP gave me a daily calorie intake of 1200 to lose 0.8 lb per week. I just redid goals to increase calories to 1300 and so now my "goal" weight loss per week is only 0.6…

Wear swim cap and goggles so you can see where you are going! Alternate different swim styles on different laps: breaststroke, freestyle, backstroke, butterfly if you can! Get a pool kickboard and use this for alternate laps; can alternate leg strokes (frog kick and whip kick) Count your laps: it gets to be kind of zen and…
