When I was able to run 6 miles at a comfortable pace. The first 2 to 3 miles are always the hardest.

I know a lot of folks who can run on the treadmill for 30 minutes several days a week, but get injured when they run out on the road and attempt to do the same thing. Ease into road running. Try run/walking on surface for a couple of weeks then see how you feel.

I have gained more than 40 pounds since my last marathon in 2008 and injured my knee last July. So, I am walking my way back to running. I will target my next half in October. It will feel like the first time.
