Thank you for the suggestion. I certainly haven't been trying to deprive or deplete myself - I've just been trying to exercise, eat healthy, and follow MFP's guidelines, which as I mentioned have not been working, so I appreciate some practical advice. I will try this (and freak out my family by eating so much more, lol!))…

Female, 45, 5'6" Currently 165 pounds. (Was happy at 140 for decades until perimenopause.) MWF I do 30 minutes on our elliptical-ish exercise bike, which says I burn about 220 calories per session. T-T-S I do 30 minutes (roughly, sometimes more) of weight lifting, using free weights. 15 to 140 pounds depending on the…

Sorry that I'm still confused. So when I'm back to 170 and none of my clothes fit, THEN it should start working? That doesn't make sense to me. I read the link, and it's all about people who are at their goal weight already. (And I get the whole "weight range" thing, don't get me wrong. I'm not looking for a magic number.…

Yes, I'm trying to get back to 145 from the 162-165 where I've been stuck ever since hitting perimenopause and getting put on pills for the migraines and related issues. So yes, I'm trying to lose weight. MFP asks for your activity level. I have a desk job but I do 30 minutes of weight training or cardio on alternate days…

I just went to the site and plugged in my height, weight, etc. into the calculator, and it said my TDEE is 2193 just to maintain. Yet MFP with the same information tells me to net 1500 calories. That's quite a difference!!! No wonder I'm confused.

I need too much sleep to exercise in the morning, so for me it's right after work (about 6 p.m.) I also walk laps for 10-15 minutes during my lunch hour. Ideally, like on a nice weekend, I would do my longer walks and weightlifting about 9 in the morning, but that happens maybe twice a year. Otherwise life gets in the way.

Everyone raves about this theory, but I cannot get it to work. I understand that if you eat too little your metabolism stalls, but I've never had the weight loss occur from eating more. When I eat too little I don't lose any weight, but I stay the same (15 -20 pounds overweight). So I try eating more (adding a hard boiled…

Add me to the list of people who walk laps around the office hallways (on a different floor - ha!) during my lunch break. It's far too hot and humid to walk outside when you have to dress professionally. I just keep a good pair of tennis shoes and socks at work and change into them. Even 10-15 minutes a day makes me feel…

My husband RARELY eats fruits or vegetables. Green beans, carrots, and corn are the only 3 veggies he will touch, no matter how I prepare them - and even those he probably only gets one serving a week. As far as fruit, he will eat bananas and grapes. That is it. Also only once or twice a week. Yes, it drives me crazy. Yes,…

10 pounds is more than I've managed in 5 years.

I just want to say that I sympathize with the OP because I know how frustrating it is when you've tried the "eat more, eat less" "do this, do that" "lift more, do more cardio" and NOTHING seems to be working. I even paid over $100 to have my thyroid checked because I can't lose any weight only to be told that my levels…

NovaSure isn't b/c. It's procedure involving edometrial ablation for treatment of heavy bleeding. It usually stops periods altogether so is only offered to patients past child bearing. My doctor gave me some info on it a couple of years ago.
Sorry, I realized after I hit "post" that my answer was going to read…

sounds really tough :ohwell: :flowerforyou:
Thank you for being understanding. Yes, it really has been hard and the most depressing thing I've ever gone through physically. When you are doing everything that is recommended and getting zero results, it is so frustrating.

I had a tubal 18 years ago plus a D&C while checking for endometriosis, so the b/c is NOT for b/c purposes. What I'm on is supposed to be the lowest-dose treatment available to deal with the symptoms of perimenopause. They don't want to do any HRT because of a history of breast cancer.

I agree! I was just thinking that, too. All the clothes in my closet from when I was 140 and looked good were size 8-10, about a 29" waist. 38C chest with conventional measurements. (34DD with proper measurements!)

Perimenopause. After NO changes in eating or exercise habits, I have put on 40 pounds in 5 years since being put on b/c pills for the horrendous, debilitating symptoms of the oh-so-wonderful "change of life." And before you say it, when I quit taking them, the migraines, blackouts, vomiting, and periods lasting 3 weeks…

I'm 5'6" and was 140/size 8 for many happy years until hitting perimenopause and getting put on b/c pills for related issues/migraines, etc. Ballooned up to 170 and have been trying for 5 years to lose the weight. Am at 163 right now and soooo frustrated. My doctor wants me back at 140, and believe me, I'd like to be there…

Cottage cheese - any kind of sour cream tasting stuff, bleggh, tomatoes, avocados, mushrooms, olives, grapefruit. Would never make it on the MUFA diet unless it was strictly the dark chocolate, so sadly not a lot of "healthy fats" make it down and stay down.

Joint account. We're a team. Extra money from sideline jobs goes into a "fun account" for concerts, clothes, etc., but all of the "real" stuff is shared. If I couldn't trust him with money I wouldn't have married him. :)

I love my hair long, because I can put it up to have a "short look" if I want and it's so much cooler in the summer to be able to pony it up out of the way instead of having shoulder length where it's always sticking to you. Plus I can trim the ends myself and save $100s, if not thousands a year on the salon and styling…

I've tried all combinations - and truthfully mixing it up is always a good idea - but one approach I've used with good results is this: Start with a weight you can comfortably lift 8 times, for whichever exercise you are doing. Then do 4 sets of 8, or as close to eight as you can lift with good form. Example: bicep curls.…

Slightly off topic, but as I am in perimenopause my doc has me taking my bc pills continuously. (I was getting horrific migraines while on the "dummy" pills every month.) Therefore, I haven't had a period in over a year, just a tiny bit of spotting here and there. Ask your doctor for advice, but you can definitely start…

5'6" and 162 pounds. Currently in size 10, though I have a pair of 8s that still fit that must just be stretched out. :)

Ditto for me! Helped with SEVERE perimenopause symptoms, migraines, etc.

You could also just choose to maintain a healthy weight and skip having kids altogether - you'll be much happier!!

I am amused by people insisting that "turkey" is not a real food whereas "pig" is. Last time I checked they were both animals. Simple solution: if you find a brand of any kind of bacon that satisfies your taste buds and desired calorie/fat/etc. content, eat it.

^^^ This is exactly my reasoning for weighing in every morning. When I run into problems is when for whatever reason I am away from the scale for a long time - then it's like WHOOPS I'm up 7 pounds or whatever. It keeps me on track.

My sister and her hubby went as a cat and mouse one year - headbands with construction paper ears for both of them, grey and black sweatsuits. Yarn tails, a little face makeup for whiskers and they were good to go. (She was the smaller cat, he was the larger mouse, which was cute.) My husband and I are going as White Trash…

Our weights have always taken priority in our living quarters - in the apartment, they were in the living room along one wall. In our first house, we used the spare bedroom for them and just didn't have overnight company. :) Now in the house we built we put them in a "bedroom" as well that we use strictly as a weight room.…
