  • Am surprised to see so many "suck it up" type responses. I'm with you; it's frustrating when your family & friends -- the people that are supposed o be the most supportive -- ignore your wishes and specific requests. It's not like you're asking them to change their diet or not eat certain things around you. You're not…
  • Baked Mushrooms stuffed with a mixture of kale, dill, other mushrooms, cream cheese, feta cheese, with a little broiled cheddar on top...fabulous, and 40 cal per (and these are the big, 2-3" mushrooms). Yum.
  • OMG. I'm not professing to be a medical professional, but I know what makes my body perform better and feel better, and I know what makes it sluggish and feel like crap. A healthy (not huge, just healthy) meal to start the day (with protein) gives me energy and enthusiasm. Skipping, or even delaying a few hours, makes me…
  • I agree -- I'm SUPPOSED to stick to 1200 calories a day, and I couldn't do it on what you're eating (although I, too, am a Lindt 70% chocolate bar frequent flier member). I can only speak for what works for me, but if I restrict calories too much, I feel like crap, my body hangs on to fat like it's gong out of style, and I…
  • I think the Atlanta airport is The Hellmouth.
  • Anything in triple digits is just slightly differing degrees of misery. Dry or humid, it still sucks.
  • When I moved from CA: "but you're not blonde!" and "what do you mean, you don't surf?" When I moved from AK: "what was living in an igloo like?" When I moved from TX: "where's your hat & boots?" When I moved to Japan & Korea: "do you know (insert random famous American)?" *Oh, and I had a Scottish co-worker who was asked,…
  • Teleportation, without a doubt. That way I could still tuck my daughter in when I'm deployed. (could come in handy in a few other ways, too)
  • I agree with the suggestion to see a physical therapist. I know mine kicked my butt -- I always worked up a sweat. If you explain your recent weight loss and how you're trying to avoid a relapse, they can help you come up with something that will get you the exercise you need while respecting your injury. You might also…
  • ^^THIS^^ There are a lot of people on this site that equate correlation with causation. If they think something worked for them, then it must work for everyone. Heck, I do it too -- adding more protein to my diet made such a HUGE shift in my energy drive, that when people say they're too tired to work out, I suggest…
  • It takes a little research, but it basically comes down to reading the full ingredients and nutritional value of each option. When I was looking for protein shakes (because I don't eat enough protein through food), I found that the shakes targeted towards dieters had WAY more sugar (or tons of artificual sweeteners). I…
  • I've never even HEARD of a gift-opening party. If you're participating in the wedding, and the pre-festivities as much as possible, I see no reason why you would be obligated to sit around and watch her open up her gifts. Spend the time with your family.
  • Skipping to the end, so please forgive me if I repeat others -- my experience with Ramadan has been that the fasting is only during the day. Why not eat more calories before dawn and after dusk? Two 275-calorie shakes just doesn't seem like enough if you're going to do the entire month. You can still significantly reduce…
  • Dude. I baked & ate 1600+ calories worth of pecan shortbread last Sunday. Total crash & burn! It happens; don't beat yourself up. I will ask, though, how are your breakfasts? I had such a hard time getting the oomph to eat well & exercise, until I started doing my am protein shakes. I suddenly had so much more energy, it…
  • If it's from fruit, I ignore it. If it's from other stuff, I count it. I refuse to believe eating more than one piece of fruit a day is bad for me. *edit* That said, I also don't count fruit sugar as totally free -- it's still sugar. I just think MFP's numbers are too low.

  • Olive oil, balsamic, mustard (think stone-ground, not french's yellow) & black pepper. Zingy & fabulous!
  • I agree with the PPs that said to go see your doc. It could be reflux, it could be an ulcer -- and excessive thirst is also one of the symptoms of diabetes. If you're drinking 100 oz a day and still thirsty, that's worth asking about.
  • Fruit salad tossed in lime juice & honey or agave -- the lime really thins out the honey, so just a tiny bit goes a LONG way, and they add a nice zing to fruit salad (and keep your apples & pears from browning). Biscoff cookies when I need a treat. (**edit** BELVITA,, not Biscoff -- don't know where my mind was. On…
  • True love, all the way. I wish it was as easy as just making the choice!
  • While I think the "more complex" comment makes it sound like parenting is simple and easy, I agree with the rest of this and think it's ridiculous that people have to justify their choice not to have kids. There are plenty other people reproducing at a much higher rate than 1:1, so it's not like we need everyone on board…
  • I've got one girl, and I'd love another. Had her on my own at 36, though, so time is running out (38 now). I was fine having one in my own, but two would be too much -- we have fun together and it's relatively low-stress. Adding an infant to that mix, as much as I'd love to, is just more than I can handle right now -- not…
  • This. There's a difference between eliminating carbs and eliminating crap carbs. And your body SO needs fat -- your brain alone is comprised of a good portion of fat. You might be restricting yourself too much, causing your body to compensate. I'm no expert; might be worth chatting with your doc. But I do know a healthy…
  • I think there's a big difference between wanting to go it alone for a while while you establish your groove, and isolating yourself because you don't feel good about yourself. If by the latter, you're just talking about feeling better about your ability to stick to the plan in social situations, then I get it...but it kind…
  • Thanks, everyone! Theses are some good suggestions, and I'll check out the group, too.

  • I love this.
  • Can you thin it out with more veggies, bringing the calories per serving down?
  • Good question--I'm not really sure. :) I'm not familiar with anasura. Most the classes here seem mostly hatha, with a little vinyasa thrown in depending on the instructor. At my last studio (different state), it seemed more like bikram, but without the heat (warm, but not THAT hot). I love the idea of what i've read about…
