Beth, Like Lorina says, "no purchase necessary"! Here's the link that gives info on the program: http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml Note that you can do it either by looking at the length of time you spend walking/jogging *or* by the distance -- whatever makes it more convenient! I just finished the program…

Just finished C25K, and will be running my "first" 5K next weekend... I was thinking of picking up with another program for the summer -- either B210K or one of the Higdon programs. Haven't decided yet (especially since I think there'll be some down time in a few weeks due to surgery)...
-
wow... that brings back memories! I used to race when I was in H.S., and I totally forgot that I used to always wear two pairs of socks! (I wonder which works better -- the "old-fashioned" two pairs way, or those new performance socks for runners?)

LOL -- true, but the issue isn't whether BMI is the perfect measure, but whether its shortcomings can be dangerous. Would you say that either the bodybuilder on the left or the person on the right would misunderstand their BMI number and take inappropriate action? If not, then there's no foul, right?
-
Hmm... apparently, I've lost a microwave with a rack of ribs in it!
-
LOL -- that was my first thought, too! (Followed by "what about the curl-ups? the push-ups? the BCA?") DTetz -- since you were able to get 1.35mi in 15 minutes, I'm guessing you're already in the middle of some sort of fitness program. (If not, then oh-my-goodness, you'll be sore tomorrow! ) Anyway, if you're not…

Ugh! No way!!!! That stuff is all crud and sodium! The recipe for "crock pot minestrone" looks good, but I'd add one comment: skip the vegetable broth (the canned stuff really isn't that tasty), and use chicken broth -- but be sure to go for the "low sodium" kind (regular chicken broth has wicked high levels of sodium)...!
-
I had the same difficulty deciding at first, too. I ended up going with "sedentary". It seemed a bit of a toss-up between "sedentary" and "lightly active", but at "sedentary", I felt I wouldn't be over-estimating my caloric needs. This way, I wouldn't be giving myself more calories than I might need. It's worked for me!

On one hand, I've thought the same thing -- at 192 now (on the way down), I'm certainly more fit than I was at 192 on the way up, yet my BMI doesn't reflect this difference! On the other hand, as a general indicator, it does a good enough job: obese is obese, whether you use a micrometer or a yardstick to measure it; just…

Gran Torino, I think. Lethal Weapon? OK, my turn: "Gee, I'm real sorry your mom blew up, Ricky..."
-
Kristen, Try and get yourself a full night's sleep before the race -- you may be nervous or excited, but nothing will help you more than getting a good rest the night before! When the race starts, lots of folks will start off at a pace that's *way* too fast for them -- don't fall for it yourself! Stick with the pace that…

Jester, I think the answer to your questions is "Yes" -- as long as you root your iPhone, which is how you were able to do it on your X. Trying to compare an out-of-the-box *anything* with an aftermarket / rooted / supercharged thing is an unfair comparison...!
-
LOL! It sure *sounds* like fun...! (Of course, are you sure you want to run 3 miles wearing a coconut bra, even outside your running top? That doesn't sound like it'd be very comfortable!)
-
Hmm... so, the difference is that Android programmers are more willing to jailbreak their phones, but still not be able achieve success? Sounds about right... (p.s., I was an iPhone 3G owner a while back, and a Droid owner now; I might go back to the iPhone at some point, so there's no "religious war fervor"…
-
That sounds about right. I think that, when I was using the microwave stuff I ended up just shrugging and assuming a bag was 350 calories, and figuring it out from there...
-
LOL... I was confused about the exact same thing a coupla months ago and asked about it here! http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/175640-confused-about-microwave-popcorn-nutrition-info?hl=popcorn+#posts-2333363 (Eventually, I just gave up, got a hot-air popper, and now I just measure the amount of popcorn that I make…

You want to drop 4 minutes over 10k distance? That sounds do-able! How are you training right now? Are you doing primarily distance work, or are you doing any speed training? You'll have to train for speed to start getting your times down -- sprints or sprint intervals. Have you seen any of Hal Higdon's training plans?…

Umm... is it possible that there's context to the conversation that you just didn't overhear? Like as in, maybe the child was expressing this kind of sentiment to his mom, so she was turning it back the other way as a teaching moment, so that her child would realize that weight isn't a basis for love?

A glass of milk, maybe, to get the protein numbers up; maybe a handful of almonds or other nuts between meals. Don't fear carbs -- potatoes (not fries!), pasta, that sort of thing.
-
It's working for you right now, at your particular stage of weight loss, and given your physical condition. That doesn't mean that it will hold long-term. At the beginning of a weight-loss program, most folks are waaaay out of shape -- so any exercise they do *will* cause them to be more fit. Similarly, when a person is…

I haven't taken the time to respond to this meme in a while, so I'll take my turn again... NO -- what you write is part of the story, but isn't 100% correct. You say that a 300 calorie walk isn't "worth" 300 calories, but instead, only 125 (since, I'm assuming, you're saying that your daily activity washing dishes, etc…

soft tacos. whatever happens to be on the grocery shelf. i'm not picky...

Ugh! with all the stuff on my plate for Easter, I missed this thread until today! Mind if I join in, and start up over the weekend?

Jamie, Check with your doctor, and see what s/he has to say. Are you too heavy for C25K? No -- but, given your present weight and activity level, your doctor might recommend the best way to get yourself positioned for success in your exercise goals, and these might help you approach your C25K program appropriately! Good…

Search on "C25K" in iTunes. I use the ones from NHS (they're also on the web at http://www.nhs.uk/Livewell/c25k/Pages/couch-to-5k.aspx), but I know that there are other ones out there. Podrunner also has a couple of series available. The (free!) apps allow you to pick your own music -- they just supply the prompts -- but…
-
And, if all you're interested in is the "jog now" / "walk now" prompts, then take a look for one of the (many) podcasts that are available out there -- they provide the "audio", and they're free!

Ugh! Lots of Easter food, starting Saturday evening, and just ending today! (OK... I managed to stay away from candy, but all the other goodies -- ham, kolbassi, syrok, chocolate cake, wine -- wow...! :blushing: ) I tried being (somewhat) good tonight -- we'll see if there's any difference in the scale tomorrow morning...!
-
Evan, Please let us know how the B210K works for you, coming right off the C25K program, OK? I'm going to be in the same situation in another couple of weeks, and am curious! Thanks!
-
What you say, mrphil, is true. Yet, it doesn't seem to be the goal of the program. Even though the program is labeled "C25K", the goal, per se, isn't the distance of 5K. As it's outlined, the goal is *either* 5K or 30 minutes running. So, if your question, bonjour, is which is "more important", then the answer is *mu* (to…

One of my co-workers mentioned it to me, when the subject of weight loss came up. I'd never heard of it before. Reading up on it a bit, I found that it doesn't seem to have any real scientific evidence behind it.
