  • tater, sorry to hear you're going through a rough patch right now. military life can be more stressful than civilian life, and financial conflicts are one of the most common things that cause couples to fight. sucks that you're getting hit with all these things at once. i can't say i agree with hroush that "men are idiots"…

  • Kickrz, Incidentally -- you can modify the days on which you exercise! Offhand, I don't recall which screen it is, but you can definitely customize your workout schedule; as long as you pick four days a week, it allows you that flexibility!
  • sashimi is nice -- sushi rice, though, and all those sauces on fancy rolls? Killer...
  • OK... fair enough. Where are you getting the info that you're passing along here, then? Do you have any sources, or is this your personal opinion about how metabolism / weight loss / exercise works? You're right -- we don't "work 12 hours", at least not in the way that the exercise diary works. When it says "gardening…
  • this doesn't make sense. if you're burning calories exercising, and you end the day with a calorie deficit, you're going to be losing weight (with the usual caveats -- unless you're retaining water, or have increased muscle mass, etc, etc). it makes no sense to say "this exercise burned food", "that exercise burned fat",…
  • OK, then... let's suppose i eat an apple for breakfast -- about 100 calories. I then jog for two hours; that first 20 minutes burns about 100 calories (so, even though it doesn't matter, let's call this "burning my breakfast"). The next 40 minutes burns calories (again, immaterial, but we'll call this "burning fat"). In…
  • umm... pardon? ok -- let's suppose you exercise for two hours. in that 20min-to-60-min period, when you claim there's fat burning going on, you're burning calories, right? ok, then -- in that second hour, when you claim that you're not burning calories, you're... wait for it... burning calories, right? sooooo... if you…
  • Field of Dreams ... when Costner's character asks his dad if they can play catch, I turn into a puddle -- every time!
  • Good job, man! Thanks for putting up the pics -- from 230 to 170-something is *exactly* what I'm hoping to do...!
  • I thought catabolism was weight loss due to breaking down muscle mass (i.e., unhealthy weight loss), and not just calorie deficit...?
  • I'm on week 3 of the 9 week "Couch Potato to 5K" program (Google it, or check out the threads around here for the MFP folks who are doing it). The first week's workouts include intervals of 1 minute jogs and 1.5 minute walks -- if you jog at about 10 min/mile pace and walk at 20 min/mile pace, then you get in about 2 miles…
  • Workout 18 Easy 11 + 38 minutes 64 + 256 calories I wasn't able to finish my workout the first time I tried it today (too many interruptions, plus my right arm sensor's battery went dead, plus it seemed not to pick up my movements all that well). So, I changed both arms' batteries, and went at it again another hour or so…
  • Hmm... is it 1 gram / lb, or 1 gram / kg? At 200 lbs, given the 30 grams / 3 hours, that means I'd have to be eating seven meals, spread across 18 hours a day!
  • the site's recommendation for protein is something that i've seen folks mention around here -- many change their carb/fat/protein ratio to 40/30/30, and that seems a more reasonable number for protein intake...
  • Aah... I understand now. Well, if you're going by the prompts, and you can already jog 20 @ 4.5mph, you might try jogging intervals -- that is, instead of "walk 1 minute, jog 1 minute", you might try "jog 1 minute @ 4.5, then jog 1 minute @ 6.0"; and then at the 20 minute mark, just go immediately to a walking cool down.…

  • Oh -- I *knew* I forgot to mention something! I got the update today when I turned on my PS3. My custom playlists were still intact, though! And, I noticed that one of the bug fixes was to allow the playlists to randomly choose tracks. Although my workout had the same songs out of my "workout" playlist as always, I noticed…
  • Yup, me too! I was really excited about the fitness test today -- although my heart rate only went down by 1 point, my recovery time went down from 1:31 to 1:00 !!!! That C25K jogging I'm doing is *really* paying off!!!! Yup -- when I first saw "(Long)", I groaned... but it wasn't too bad! Of course, I did the…
  • Still confused. If you're able to jog for 30 minutes right now, why go back to jog 1 min / walk 1 min? See what I mean? If you're already jogging for 30 minutes at a time, there are other training techniques to improve your pace...!

  • Hmm... I noticed that 1250-1158 = 92. This is a "math" question, not a "should I eat my exercise calories back" question, right? so, are you seeing this? Totals ................... 1479 Your Daily Goal ... 1571 Remaining ........... 92 * You've earned 321 extra calories from exercise today. Right?
  • if your goal was 1200, and you had logged 300 calories, your "remaining" would be 900. If you then log 200 calories of exercise, your new "remaining" would be 1100 and your goal would be 1400. The "remaining" and "goal" are always bumped to account for exercise calories... (Edited to fix explanation...)
  • I saw this link posted around here last month: http://crockpot365.blogspot.com/2008/10/you-can-make-yogurt-in-your-crockpot.html I haven't had a chance to make it -- and maybe I'll get around to it next week, when I have some spare time -- but I definitely plan to play around with home-made yogurt! If you try any of these…
  • ... unless you envision yourself as a cross-dresser, of course...!
  • I'm confused ... if you're in 5K shape now, why are you starting over again with the program?
  • uh-oh... which game platform do you have?
  • Aah, I see what you mean, now. Of course, in the case of the original antagonists, the disdain was unprovoked; in this case, isn't the reaction a (somewhat more justifiable?) response?
  • Hmm... I'd buy what you're saying if the original quote was "everyone who is fat can suck it" -- but that isn't it: instead, it seems to me that the idea here is that folks see an overweight person and think that the "being overweight" is what defines the person, almost as if there's no one there other than a fat, out of…
  • About 7-10 "honey cinnamon almonds", crushed, and a coupla teaspoons of milk... yum!
  • I just remembered a question I wanted to put out here -- I always think of it while exercising, but till now, have forgotten to ask it. The numbers that EASA2 puts up for calories burned: does that include the base calories (i.e., 30 minutes' worth of our normal BMR + lifestyle multiplier), or is it just the "extra" that…
  • Congratulations! Now that you're a "graduate", I will try and picture you when I see the PT's avatar on-screen -- of course, that means that all my glares and swearing will be directed at you!
  • well, you could always repeat a workout...! How "not worked out" do you feel? The intensity *will* increase throughout the program. Although you haven't been on the treadmill, have you been doing some exercise? In other words, are you pretty sedentary at this point, or are you reasonably in shape? If the former, then I…
