  • Going into it, I knew it was gonna be a "splurge day", so I made sure I kept the calories down all day. 500 over for the day (but at least that's right at my BMR, so that's cool), and 250 of that was the Steelers Smiley Cookie I had to mourn the loss...!
  • LOL -- I agree: I was surprised when I saw the nutrition info for the pho! I guess I'll be eating it, 1/2 cup at a time, over the next coupla days, in place of the soups that I usually have!!!
  • Whoops, I think I see that I missed the answer, right in your recipe: "Boil the eight largest cabbage leaves"...! :blushing: So, are your stuffed cabbages about fist-sized? Our family recipe doesn't include the sugar/honey or the eggs. But, I've never heard of it done with brown rice -- sounds like a good way to go about…
  • Well, I ended up having one of the fresh summer rolls (the one that was left on the platter was just *screaming* at me, but I managed to leave it there for someone else to take!), and something new I'd never had before -- Thit Heo Xao Lin, which was glass noodles, onions, mushrooms, and pork, with curry sauce -- yum! (I…
  • Yum! Holubki / Golumpki!!! Katie, you say "8 servings", but I'm curious -- how many rolls in each serving?
  • Hmm... maybe you should try scrubbing them before eating them? I have the feeling, though, that many (Americans) who hate beets have only really tried *pickled* beets and don't like *them*. Imagine if you didn't like pickles, and from that, decided that you hate cucumbers...!?!
  • This..!!! :drinker:
  • I made the mistake of going there with friends last night *without* checking out the nutrition guide beforehand. Got back home, entered my meal here, and almost passed out... grf!
  • This isn't terribly convincing: So, people who smoke and eat red meat also drink soda... and get cancer. This one really looks like "post hoc, ergo propter hoc". So... overweight folks drink diet soda -- who woulda thunk it? And if soda consumption went down and water consumption up -- like for instance, Coke's Aquafina…
  • Hmm... but that seems counter-intuitive to me. Here's what I mean: the study I've found tested an artificial sweetener (Acesulfame K -- see http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/2887500?dopt=Abstract) and its ability to stimulate insulin production when it is *injected into the blood stream*. When we consume artificial…
  • Interesting... I've started searching the web, but can't find any medical sources that confirm an aspartame-weight gain link...
  • Are ya'll trying to prove that we should... (wait for it)... BURN fat?!?
  • wait -- *diet* soda? how is sugar-free soda a problem? (Or is it the fact that there's sodium lurking in diet soda, and so cutting it out allows for water weight to be more easily lost?)
  • Hmm... if the whole table is sharing a bowl of salad, will they bring out a separate bowl w/o dressing, or with low-fat dressing?
  • When I had some neck & back problems, a few years back, my PT gave me Thera-band resistance bands. They worked well for me. Right now, I'm working out with EA Sport Active 2 -- the band broke on me after only a coupla weeks, so I plan on buying a roll of Thera-band resistance band material from Amazon...
  • Hang on a second, though -- I think we're getting hung up on exactly what "need 1900 calories 'to stay alive'" means. It *does* mean that your body burns (at least) 1900 calories every day, not including any activity or exercise you do -- in this sense, it's what you'd burn "if you were in a coma". However, it *doesn't*…
  • I'm guessing you're talking about BMR -- that's not what you need to "stay alive", just how much you burn on average in a normal day, when you don't take into account your level of activity. Makes sense -- in other words, instead of eating all the calories that your body burns in a day, you're being asked to eat a bit less…
  • This morning, as I was rushing to get out of the door, I pulled the wrong slacks out of the closet. Not my fat pants -- the ones with the elastic bands -- but a pair I had tried on a coupla weeks ago, and could button (but not wear comfortably). It wasn't until after I had them on that I realized what I was wearing! And, I…
  • I feel silly asking this, but ... how would I know what my "target heart rate" during exercise is?
  • OK... so, I changed my settings to "sedentary", thinking that this doesn't include the walking that I do on many week days. That being said... should I be concerned that MFP's exercise tool thinks that 6x 5-minute walks burns the same calories as one 30-minute walk? Thanks! Larry
  • Katy, I hear what you're saying, but there's a big difference between "sedentary" ("most of the day sitting") and "lightly active" ("a good part of the day on your feet"). Strictly speaking, the student's schedule I keep seems somewhat in-between those. Does sedentary include a half-hour of walking daily? Does "a good part…
  • I saw this on another post: You can check out the thread here: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/153104-eating-back-calories-professional-opinions
  • That's not quite right. BMR tells you how much you burn without any activity whatsoever (literally -- this just means laying down, only breathing!). If your BMR was 2000 (just using your numbers here), then 1500 would definitely be starvation mode! You have to consider your BMR, plus how active you are, in order to figure…
  • I think you need to know the group name and password in advance in order to join a group. I also verified that everyone in a group must be on the same platform. Are you on the "join group" page, as opposed to the "create group" page? Granted, the prompt "name your group" is misleading...
  • Looking at the EA Sports Active site, it seems that everyone in a group needs to have the same version -- but when I go to choose my version, it includes the text "Playstation 3". I wonder if everyone needs to be on the same game platform, too?
