Lake mens shoes are really wide, might be worth trying a ladies pair?

very happy to adopt anyone who needs a kick up the *kitten* occasionally - I'm a 42yr old brit, currently about 30lb overweight but have lost 20 since new year and am going downwards quite nicely. I've got a background in many sports - rugby, swimming, triathlon, cycling and (most successfully) rowing. I love good food,…

Americans really can't complain about this at all... I just did the 'math'* and it works out at 8.16 USD / US gallon here in the UK. Yes, it's a smaller country but you dont drive all the way across it every day..... * - maths.

congratulations on coming back from your stroke. It looks like you won't be surprised if I'm a bit suspicious of what looks like the start of a sales pitch, but I'm open minded enough to listen - what'cha got to share with us all?
-

"To get back my youth I would do anything in the world, except take exercise, get up early, or be respectable" (that's from oscar wilde, not me!) I've cut right back on the amount of red meat I eat, so its just a treat now rather than every day. Its taken a huge number of calories out of my diet, and means i can afford…

i think the technical term for someone turning 36 is 'bloody young' - good luck with the fresh start!!

my wife isn't a real vegetarian, she eats fish - we quite often make a bean stew, with tinned cannelloni beans, tinned tomatoes, anchovies, onions, olive oil and splashes of pepper sauce and red wine vinegar (plus herbs). She has it with pasta, I dont eat much wheat so normally just eat it as lumpy soup. lovely and filling.

I love scotch. Scotchy, scotch, scotch. Here it goes down, down into my belly... 50ml (1.7oz) = about 100 calories. just sayin...

probably not. My bench is awful - about ¼ my DL and ⅓ my squat.

unemployed (for 1 week!) sales director of 20 years and part-time wedding photographer. Mortgage is gone, got no kids and so dont need to work the 8-8 any more, so thinking about starting afresh as a contract sales trainer & more of a photographer. fun times.

if he's already got a single speed that he likes and that fits him, if it's got horizontal (ish) dropouts then you can just buy him a threaded cog for the back wheel and a chain whip.. you'll get change out of 50 bucks! check out the late, great sheldon browns guide - http://sheldonbrown.com/fixed-conversion.html

i'll chip in to this one - you're both right! I ride about ½ my 6k miles / year on fixed and am happy without being attached to the pedals if I'm going slowly on flat roads. Uphill, downhill or if I'm doing anything enthusiastic then not being clipped in is terrifying!!
