morning all, am new to the thread.. 45 in the UK, have been a bit too much into beer and bad food since I got divorced and am now trying to sort myself out. I've been a volunteer rowing coach for a couple of years but am trying to get back into the right shape to get racing myself again - I hate the rowing machine though,…

really good input, thanks all (especially @MobyCarp). I'm coming round to the idea too, so will take the next few months trying to build a base of steady runs so I can take on a 1/2M in the spring / summer, then continue to train to get to M, then see what happens. And I agree 100% that my pacing is awful, I'll be trying…

yep, add me too.... 44 and need to lose about 44!

Cambridge! all welcome to add.

was 115kg (250lbs), want to get down to 95 (210). Am 6'2" and ex competitive rower and rugby player. I was eating back my exercise calories to get to a target which should have been losing me 1lb / week. I weighed everything.

wow... great job! how are you doing it?
-
Mike from cambridge. All add...

rowing machine, if you can handle the boredom (and pain!)
-
Cambridge here, never said no to a friend request (yet.. :) )

hey from London! I was in Kansas a couple of years ago when my kid brother married a Kansas girl - we had a fantastic week there, the locals were incredibly friendly and made us brits very welcome :) (I'm not planning on visiting in winter though - sounds pretty cold!!!)

they're plenty real enough... Get some nice stiff soled shoes and I can't tell the difference between them and my Look pedals up to brisk 200km events, and with SPD shoes I dont worry about falling over in the cafe!

yep, one of my dads ducks. It was fine (no idea how) HYE fired someone?
-
PM me and i'll buy you a beer.
-
Brit here, who beers! I also visit the US regularly [Chicago, NYC and LA] and travel in Europe quite a lot, so can give my 2p's worth of opinion [that's about 3 dollars :D] British beer - proper, gently chilled but not cold, flat(ish) and brown is the best beer in the world. There's a massive range of different beers…

budget to buy a decent track pump as well as a bike, and keep your tyres close to the max recommended (it'll be written on the side of the tyre). Check them every day, it makes life so much easier... something that looks like this: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=track%20pump

just re-started rowing after 10 years of cycling, and it's amazing... Cant believe how much I missed it.
-
how about trying something different.. try and find someone to do a cheap-ish bike fit session on a moveable jig, so you can figure out what size you'd need in an ideal world, then figure out how to adjust a used frame to fit. Might need a longer, set back seat post + a new stem and bars, but it's not beyond the bounds of…

you have no idea how to behave on the underground. training shoes, white socks and knee-length shorts (or blue jeans in winter) (the not jaywalking one is quite cute tho..)

it's a saturday so 3 x bacon, 2 x egg, 1 x toast (and coffee). Normally just the egg & toast. having our own hens is fab.
-
get your heels up a bit (like half an inch, not stilletos :) ) even just put some regular running shoes on might help.
-
rowing machines are fantastic whole-body workouts - good choice! 30 minutes can be quite boring though, if you want some ideas for different training sessions, I use http://www.concept2.co.uk/indoor-rowers/training/wod (you might have to translate them a bit if you've got a different type of machine!) - either that or use…

already did :)
