This might help - play around a little; look at the different food groups. There are lots of examples what "one serving" is. That should help you exchange one food for another. http://www.mypyramid.gov/pyramid/index.html If this doesn't help. maybe you can post your plan for suggestions. Cheers! :drinker:

300 calories an hour sounds low. At my gym the ellipticals have all the above mentioned features and I'm burning 8-9 calories per minute, which is not super intense but I'm working up a pretty good sweat. That comes to about 480-500 calories per hour. I find the MFP number way too high for me, but maybe for people who have…

Well look at it this way: it's an internet forum and if somebody's post upsets you, you can just ignore it. I've had to spend one-and-a-half hours today at a meeting from H.E.L.L. where one of the department bosses was once again pursuing her own agenda of getting rid of my boss - who is a million times better at his job…

You make a good point regarding basic nutritional needs. Sometimes it seems there's a lot of talk about "starvation mode" if somebody doesn't meet their calories for a day or couple of days. I think it takes a longer time of consistently going below your needs to actually get to that point. The Minnesota experiment took…

I've stopped paying attention to the "prediction". I'm just happy to see the numbers on the scale going in the right direction, even if it's a bit slower.

For sure. I hadn't set this as a mini-goal but in retrospect I think I should have. Anyway, it's a step closer to the main goal.

Congratulations! It won't be long now, maybe a week and you will watch the BMI drop below that dreaded 30.0. Keep up the good work! :flowerforyou:

Crohn's is a challenge for healthy eating and fitness, not to mention weight control. Whenever I get a flare-up I lose a lot of weight, but I feel too crummy to do anything so I'm losing muscle mass. Then the treatment is usually steroids. Aside from the water retention and putting on fat in strange places, it also gives…

http://www.abc-of-yoga.com/yoga-and-health/yoga-for-neck-and-upper-back.asp Not a DVD but gives you some poses to work on. But I would strongly recommend talking to a yoga instructor - they can modify the exercises for you to accommodate your problem areas. You don't want to aggravate your pain. Good luck to you :drinker:

My gym has free child minding for members - the little ones seem to have a really good time there and it's peace of mind for mom. If your gym doesn't offer that, there are lots of things you can do at home even including your son. Just the other day I saw a mom running and her child riding her bike beside her. That child…

It's a good point though - anybody who thinks losing weight will solve all their problems in life will be disappointed. But if you approach this as a health and fitness issue you will see positive results. And the boost in self-esteem you get with reaching your goals may very well carry over into other areas. I once went…

Great determination - wish you could bottle it  :drinker:

I doubt this happens from being sick for three days. When you have an infection such as stomach flu your body works overtime to fight it off. Now that you're over it, just do as you normally would and slowly increase what you're eating according to your comfort level. Same with exercise - don't think you've got to make up…

Even though the numbers weren't what you had hoped for, you came a long way in only 3 months. You can do it! This is a lifestyle change, and bit by bit you'll get there. :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:

Hi, Eddie; welcome to MFP. Lots of us have been there - chalk it off to experience and carry on. I also work in an office. I always have water on my desk and drink 8 cups at work alone. That really helps. I keep low cal snacks in my desk and I usually brown bag it as the restaurants in our area have only bad and worse food…

Interesting stuff. I write for fun, but haven't got into blogging yet. One more thing to put on my list for "when I retire..." Cheers! :drinker:

If you want to keep accurate track it would be best to get an HRM. You can "add a new exercise" and log the calories you burn.
-
First of all, congratulations on your ability to write. Most northern barbarians can't do that and have to rely on unscrupulous scribes or bards to record their adventures. You can log your calories from swimming for 8 days by converting the days to hours: 17854 calories for 24h, times 8 - pretty good! Not sure if you get…

I do sit-ups, squats and push-ups. What are hydrants?

Thanks for all the encouragement; you're the best! :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:

Thank you, that is very helpful! :flowerforyou:

Ditto. I was tracking sugar only to see which foods have hidden sugars - I am not eating a lot of those and I was always "over" from eating fresh fruit. Now I've stopped tracking sugar and am tracking fiber instead :drinker:

I like to support Girl Guides, but I take the cookies to work and put them in the lunch room - they're gone in no time! (Especially when the IT guys discover them  )

Welcome to MFP! :flowerforyou: If you're looking for ideas for workouts at home, try this site: http://www.sparkpeople.com/resource/fitness_videos.asp Lots of variety, different levels.

Any big change in your eating habits can upset your bowels. If you've been adding a lot of raw fruit and veggies you may want to try cooked ones and slowly go to more raw stuff. If you're switching to whole grains, go slowly - add or change one food every few days. Metamucil is a gentle kind of fiber that helps regulate…

You're so right. Great post; thanks for sharing! :flowerforyou:

Ditto to all these great responses! It takes time to change your lifestyle but if you stick to it, one year from now you'll look back and you'll be amazed. I thought I was already pretty healthy when I started MFP in May 2009, but I was shocked when I started weighing and measuring my food - I had been totally…

Check with your doctor. Like kookla33 said, there is a test for lactose intolerance. "Stomach discomfort" is a pretty vague symptom that can mean a lot of things. If you find out you really are lactose intolerant, there are lactase drops you can add to your milk (lactase being the enzyme that breaks down lactose, normally…

Another thought: plans like WW let you save up calories (points) for the week - if you find you go "over" today you can make up for it over the next few days. But as long as you eat sensibly most of the time one dinner won't mess you up.
-
Exactly. On WW you get to bank your flex points as well as your exercise points for the week. Enjoy - it looks yummy! :flowerforyou:
