Montreal steak spice is my fav; also great on grilled chicken breast.

It really depends where you're at right now. When I started I was already doing quite a bit of exercise, but my eating habits were pretty bad. I love carbs, especially sweets, and I vastly underestimated portions. For me the difference was in starting to weigh and measure everything, and shifting to more proteins and fewer…

I second that! But you don't have to do the "legs behind the head" right away; a good yoga instructor will help you adapt the exercises to what your body can do. And may I put in a plug for Tai Chi - it's excellent as well, and easier if you'd rather move around than hold a pose.

As a psych major, I'm sure you've seen those studies where men and women look at silhouettes of body shapes and are supposed to pick out the shape closest to them - same thing; women always pick a shape that's bigger than they really are. Sometimes we're our own worst enemies, beating up on ourselves for not being perfect…

You could save up calories for a serving of fat free, sugar free Jello pudding with skim milk; 80 calories per 1/2 cup serving and it won't fill you up so you can't sleep. Hot chocolate is also nice before bed. Compare labels for the one that suits your needs best, or use real cacao either with real sugar or sweetener. If…

Well, if you want my honest opinion, I think you ought to see somebody to get help. This sounds obsessed, not healthy. If you're doing all this exercise on 900 calories a day you're starving your body.

I think it's a scam. I've got to have a colonoscopy every two years or so and that's all the "cleanse" I need or want. :grumble: It's not making me feel any better in case you're wondering. I've also worked in long term care for 10 years and witnessed first hand the problems people run into from overusing laxatives over…

Love the Jello sugar free chocolate or fudge pudding mix. With skim milk, one serving is 80 cals. If you have a little more cals to use up, Jello sugar free chocolate and Dream Whip make an awesome mousse for 130 cals (both made with skim milk).

It all depends. If you can tolerate milk, it's a great source of calcium. Whole milk has 4% butter fat. I went from whole milk to 2%, then 1%, and now I think skim milk is fine. If you don't like the taste of skim milk, maybe try 1% or 2%. Personally, I don't like soy milk unless it's flavoured. Which probably makes it…

Don't beat yourself up. This happens to everybody in some aspect of their lives. I have to get my teeth cleaned every three months because of gum disease. I let it slip for ALMOST A YEAR! On Tuesday I went back to my Periodontist, feeling hugely embarrassed. I had expected them to give me he!!, but everybody there was so…

Have you ever tried Thins? I don't like hamburger or hot dog buns, but these are good. Several companies make them now. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2009/08/28/FD6U1939GI.DTL

Lots of people show their love for others by feeding them. My kids are a little older than you and live on their own, but when they come to visit you bet I feed them  From my perspective, the best way to approach your parents is to talk to them. Tell them what your goals are, you want to lose some weight and be…

I'm helping my son and his gf move so I checked around a bit. Every website says a little different but the average for an hour of painting is about 200cals. I guess if you climb up and down ladders all day it would be more. You can enter a new exercise, just like you can enter a new food.

So sorry about your husband - I hope he's got good care to help him fight this! How about starting out with a walk? As long as the weather is nice it seems a shame not to enjoy it. Soon we'll be in for three or more months of snow and/or rain, depending where you live. If your husband is able to walk with you, it would…

If you're healthy, go for it. I hadn't done push-ups since high school until I started karate training 4 years ago; 1 month before I turned fifty. Yes, we do push-ups, and the first few weeks mine looked pathetic. I'm much better now but will still do the program to improve my form. There is also a program for sit-ups and…

My hometown is definitely making me fat, too. I've just been back to Germany for three weeks and gained 8 lbs :embarassed: Although most of it was water weight from all the sodium in the food , some of it is "real" gain. My downfall? Beer, really good bread and yummy lunch meats and cheeses. Back in Canada I can't get all…

Don't you just hate that! When we moved into our current house the previous owners were going through a divorce and neither of them felt they were responsible for cleaning. The Realtor even talked to them and said they had to clean, so they did a half-baked job but it still was a mess. I've never had any grout so bad it…

:flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: This is so true! I think it also depends what your basic activity level is. Mine is "sedentary" as I have a desk job and a lot of my leisure activities include crafts, reading and Sudoku. You bet I count my activities.

I didn't think the article was making "excuses" - I got out of it that it's more important to lead a healthy life than obsessing over scales and clothing sizes. We have control over our actions, but that does not necessarily mean we always get the desired results - witness the many threads on here where people do all the…

I used to be like that. When I'm at work it's easy to stick to my food plan, but when I get home I'm starving and often ended up stuffing my face with everything in reach, even after the initial hunger was gone. Now I have a good sized healthy snack right when I get home and then I get out of the house again: walk the dog,…

Go to My Home > Settings and click on Diary Settings. There you can choose which nutrients to track, just click on the arrow in any box and it will give you a drop down menu. This might also help: http://www.healthlinkbc.ca/healthfiles/hfile68a.stm

I'm glad you're thinking about it. My daughter is a vegetarian and was recently found to be quite anemic, so now she has to take supplements. I found a booklet that might give you some ideas on your diet - here's the URL: http://www.health.gov.bc.ca/library/publications/year/1998/vegedge.pdf and here's an excerpt: PUMP UP…

My gastroenterologist says this is only a sign that you're eating a healthy diet. If it bothers you, try Beano or something like that but I've never found it helpful. You could also increase your veggie intake more slowly so your body can adjust.

I also grew up with very critical relatives. I've finally learned to ignore them but it took many years, and moving halfway around the earth which probably isn't realistic for most people  My personal take is that it's more important to eat healthy and live healthy than to worry about getting into a specific size. I…

I would blanch spinach, chop it, and freeze it in the amounts I want to use. The easier it is to just grab a bag out of the freezer the more likely I will use it.

This is great advice, but what to do about the lack of sleep? I've always slept less than "ideal" and certainly don't want to take pills. I'm already following all the tips and tricks I can find, but I'm still wide awake by 5 am at the latest. If I go to bed late, I'm still up, only tired and grouchy for the whole day.…

I remember working those shifts! In addition to food from patients and families, there is also added stress from working 12-h shifts, especially nights, and I found it very hard to commit to an exercise routine. Now that I have a Mon-Fri day job in a nurse call centre it's a lot easier to stick with regular diet and…

Very disrespectful, but that's PETA for you. Remember when they handed out anti-milk pamphlets with false claims in them to school children? I'm all for treating animals well, but my donations go to the SPCA. And if I need advice what to eat, I'll ask a Registered Dietitian.

Welcome back :flowerforyou: Congratulations on your decision to start over! You can do it! You might want to consider why you fell off in the first place and work on some strategies for similar situations. It's not a failure; it' a learning experience!
