Sorry - guess I'm a slow learner...:embarassed:

Yes, there are so many anti-depressants out there that a different one may work better for you. I've often wondered why women who are already struggling with depression have to take meds that make them gain weight :explode: But I guess unless you speak to your doctor s/he may not realize what it's doing to you.

Just did a Level 3 diagnostic on your posts - no preaching detected - you may cease punishment

Well put. I remember not too long ago there was a newbie - who did have a negative outlook to be sure, but she was just new. Some people jumped all over her and she hasn't been seen since. Sometimes people do need to vent, especially when they're new and feel overwhelmed by the changes their doctor has told them they need…

Thanks for the info - I tried to find evidence-based scientific information on aspartame the other day and you're right - most of the stuff on the internet is ridiculous. Check out the FDA or Health Canada. Totally agree that diet pop is not a substitute for healthier choices, but as a treat and in moderation I don't see…

We had friends over on Sunday and were looking for a place to eat. Milestones is pretty nice but when I checked their menu on line I decided to skip it. I love a good salad and I have no idea how they can manage to make their salads so hi-cal. We went for sushi instead - which also has its pitfalls but at least I can…

Yes! I got one of her tapes from the library and was totally turned off by her manner. She pointed to one of the very beautiful women who are modeling the exercises and said something like "work hard and you will look like this" - yeah, if I can grow ten inches while I'm at it and get a face transplant! And I wouldn't do…

But do you know what mermaids wear? Algebras!

All hypnosis is really self-hypnosis; the hypnotist just talks you through getting relaxed enough and may guide your imagery a bit. I used self-hypnosis for pain control and when I quit smoking. It can help with changing habits, if you're ready for it. If you meditate or use other relaxation techniques or visualization you…

LOL - just looked at Weathereye - I see you're in for some thunderstorms; we just had a spectacular one on the weekend. It probably feels about the same as here with the humidity.

:flowerforyou: Thanks for all the tips - getting out early is definitely my goal but because it's so hot I can't really get to sleep until after midnight. I'll give the mall a try; if I get there early enough I'll get in a real good walk before it gets too crowded.

Poor little thing. My dog is 100+ pounds and part Husky, so all that fur doesn't help him right now. I feel like moving to the South Pole for the next month.

I hope so! The one good thing: it's also too hot to feel like eating much.

http://www.recipezaar.com/ You can find recipes for your favourite restaurant foods here and recreate them with healthy ingredients. For example the breakfast burrito uses pork sausage, cheese and eggs, all of which brings it up to 453 cal each  You can use a whole wheat tortilla, Yves "Veggie Mexican Ground Round",…

Unfortunately that is a common side effect with a number of antidepressant drugs. But it's best to talk this over with your doctor; even if it was prescribed for a different reason. There may be alternative medications, or at least they can tell you which withdrawal symptoms are more serious.

I think what gets some people is that you can overeat one day and next morning the scale shows a "gain" it's easy to panic, but really it's normal weight fluctuation. Best solution - don't weigh every day. (Yeah I know - easier said than done :embarassed: )

I would strongly advise going with an instructor if you're just starting. DVDs are a good follow-up once you understand the basics. I don't know your resources - do you have community recreation centres? I can take all sorts of courses there at a fraction of the cost, similar to the idea to try a local highschool. I paid…

"Whichever way you take it, don't expect a rapid weight loss, the weight will be lost gradually, as it should be to allow the body's fat cells to adjust to their new size." Hmm - isn't that what healthy eating, not overeating and exercising does anyway, if you take apple cider vinegar or not? Or is that just the little…

Yes, healthy snacks, and don't even buy the "other" kind...

Good news - Tim Horton's is making inroads in the US. They sell donut holes called Timbits that have between 45 and 70 calories, depending on the type. Still not exactly health food, but what we call "Harm Reduction"

I like to get frozen veggies because then I get a great variety without having to buy, peel and chop a whole bunch. "Europe's Best" has some great combinations. I can stir-fry some chicken or shrimp with half a bag of "Zen Garden" and some tasty sauce and eat it with brown rice. Done in minutes!

Fruit contains both fructose and glucose. This table has info on fruit: http://www.thefruitpages.com/contents.shtml Some have more sugar than others. I  fruit and I'm really happy to see that strawberries have comparatively low sugar content as I could easily live on them.

Our closest relatives in the animal kingdom are either vegetarians or omnivores. Our digestive system is structured to deal with a variety of foods. Some people need to restrict the foods they eat for health reasons, but for the vast majority a balanced diet is best for our bodies. I'm not knocking anybody for their…

Alcohol can affect your heart rate but more along the lines of tachycardia (very fast beat for no reason) or palpitations (irregular heartbeat). Same thing can happen from too much caffeine.

Many years ago when I went to nursing school (about the time of the dinosaurs) I learned that every gram of carbohydrate and every gram of protein has 4 calories, and every gram of fat has 9. That might give you a rough idea. At HealthLink BC, we also have a phone-in dietitian service. This is their recipe analyzer:…

During the week, oatmeal, fresh berries or other fruit and skim milk. On the weekend I treat myself to pancakes, regular or potato, and back bacon (Canadian bacon to you folks south of the border  ), or an omelet. I love coffee but can only have one cup in the morning now as any more gives me arrhythmia  It's…

Yeah, it's important what YOU like, not other people. Congratulations on your progress! :drinker:

Oatmeal and an egg - both microwaveable; fresh berries if you like for the oatmeal, skim milk For lunch I like to grab a WW Smart Ones frozen meal, some fresh veggies and a piece of fruit Morning snack, an apple and piece of cheese Yogurt for afternoon snack

I agree with all previous comments, but I would also try to figure out what triggered the binge and make a plan for dealing with this trigger if it happens again. That way you can learn something and be more in control.

I've always heard it's not a good idea, because your body is still in starvation mode. But this article looks at it from different angles; might be helpful: http://exercise.about.com/od/weightloss/f/emptystomach.htm
