Best: how do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time. Diets don't work; a slow but steady lifestyle change does. Worst: any diet plan that cuts out an entire food group (and yes, chocolate is a food group  )

I've had it for 35+ years. For me it's trial and error what I can eat, and can change from day to day. Cooked/steamed veggies are usually okay. With raw veggies I can usually tolerate lettuce, cucumbers, celery, mushrooms and peppers. Broccoli and cauliflower become iffy. I love tomatoes but I pay for it the next…

About motivation - I'm definitely motivated by fitness. Which is just as well as I'm losing weight v-e-e-e-r-r-r-r-y slowly but I'm noticing improved strength and endurance. I don't know about the snacking though - is it self-sabotage or is your body responding with increased hunger when you lose weight quickly?…

Believe me, I was very respectful around her...

I wouldn't call it a peeve but it was a bit embarrassing. I was just "fresh off the couch", needless to say I couldn't lift very much. This little old lady, 70 if she's a day and probably weighs 80 pounds with her purse, does the circuit right behind me. At every machine she shakes her head, goes tsk tsk and adds twice as…

I was getting pretty sick of eggs but I love tuna and I really liked the celery studded with Laughing Cow lite and the Ricotta cheese desserts. Chicken breast with asparagus is another good one.

I was going to keep my mouth shut on this but I just want to say one thing: this is YOUR body and YOUR accomplishment. You need to do what feels right to YOU, not what somebody else thinks you should do to adhere to his ideal. Congrats on making all this great progress :flowerforyou:

When I have food that really tempts me I'm planning when to eat it. Can you tell yourself "I won't eat any pie now but I'll have a slice after supper"? And if the craving hits you again throughout the day, just keep telling yourself you'll have a piece after supper. Maybe by then you won't feel like it anymore, or you can…

It's really up to you how you feel. If I feel I'm coming down with a flu I wouldn't want to go and sweat for 2 hours but I might feel up to a walk.

Hi, Christina; have you had your thyroid checked? You sound like one of my friends - she was just told her thyroid hormones are so low that the doctor was contemplating starting her on IV Eltroxin. What's really bad is that she already was low 2 years ago and the doc missed it at the time. If there's no medical reason…

   Now I remember why I don't like going to the gym! pool pet peeves: 1. people who swim very slowly but take up two lanes so nobody can pass (or people who swim in pairs and take up two lanes). 2. people who are oblivious to everybody around them as they come steaming down in freestyle, arms flailing…

I found the link to the report - it's still in draft form. Only 210 pages! Happy reading! http://www.sacn.gov.uk/pdfs/5nov_sacn_energy_drafting_group_draft.pdf

"A 16% increase would mean that adults could safely consume an extra 400 calories a day, equivalent to an average sized cheeseburger." Call me a cynic, but was this report commissioned by the fast food industry? I agree with the other posts - on MFP we learn what works for every one of us. For some people eating a little…

First of all, congratulations on your decision to live a healthier life. :flowerforyou: And I doubt you gained 6 pounds of fat in 2 days, unless you ate over 20,000 calories during that time - it's likely water and/or normal fluctuation. I haven't smoked in 20 years but I did have a hard time quitting and making it stick.…

When I came back from vacation I had gained 10 pounds :noway:  Fortunately 7 pounds was water but some was for real :embarassed: Anyway, I lost it within a couple of weeks and more since then. It happens. You'll get back on track.

Ditto in my yoga class.

Thanks for posting this - but how depressing; most of these meals have mega calories and fat, even the ones like chicken and salads. :noway:

I wonder if fast food chains are moving into France - does anybody know? I know they're all over the place in Germany but then German food has never been known to be diet friendly  I will raise a glass of pinoit noir to the poor French who will soon have to join gyms and sweat off their butts, just like the rest of…

2h karate classes three times a week (but we're not working full out for 2 hours:laugh: I usually count it as 60 minutes) 30 minute doggie walk most days 30 minute swim at least once a week

Please seriously consider seeing a doctor and a counselor. You're saying on your profile you hate yourself - that's not a good way to be. You're a brave person for coming out and talking about your problems and you deserve better. :flowerforyou:

I had celery with Laughing Cow light today - yummy and satisfying, for 50 cals. (1 stick and 2 wedges)

Fillet of sole and baked potato, with a salad.

Wouldn't want to be without mine. It was a real eye opener how much I had underestimated my portions :noway: No wonder I couldn't lose weight
-
Sounds like a total control issue to me. Ignore the negativity and do what's right for you and your son.

It's easy to underestimate your portions and overestimate your exercise. That's why I find the tools so helpful. Welcome back and you know you can do it! :flowerforyou:
