  • I lost 40kg (88 pounds) back in 2010 on MFP and have kept it off for the last 13 years (with a 10kg (20 lb) fluctuation up and down due to life stresses). I don't work in the fitness industry although when I was losing the 88 lb I did do a lot of sports. I think that it would be a bad idea to base losing weight on having a…
  • I am the youth coordinator at our soccer club and so am responsible not only for my own two boys but 100 other kids and their families. I get where you are coming from as I feel it too! It's hard. Also, my boys are very fit and toned and my boyfriend is the soccer coach ...
  • In Amsterdam - 6 pounds up since the hot weather started ...
  • I lost 40 kg between 2007-2008, maintained it for a good while and then gained about 15 back. Lost that over the past six months and hoping the scale will move downwards in the coming year.
  • No, mine is also jumbo porridge oats or just the normal porridge oats (Scotts or Quaker or whatever)! I put extra stuff in sometimes, like grated apple or raisins, but I grew up eating it so it's not a big deal for me. If you can get used to it, it will give you a 300 calorie breakfast (with soy milk) and fill you up. If…
  • Me! Ideas: can of tuna, lettuce, tomato, olives, olive oil & raspberry vinegar yoghurt with a sprinkle of muesli, honey oatmeal for breakfast with soy milk, honey or sugar (half a cup of oatmeal raw is enough - don't buy the oatso easy type thingies) fruit salad scrambled eggs on toast Just don't try and eat anything…
  • Agree you have to find motivation to do it yourself but there are two things I do: 1. I ask myself before I eat anything whether the 'price is right'. ie. is the cost worth the pleasure? If it is then I should eat that thing guilt free, if not I need to think if I could eat something else that might have a better…
  • I started trying to lose weight when I was still nursing my son and it was a big mistake - he stopped growing! The doctors told me not to diet while I was breastfeeding and I was a big girl then - over 300 lb. Just be careful with what you decide to do and make sure you eat enough to make enough milk. Good luck!
  • Now if you are older and NOT married then what do you call your significant other? Boyfriend sounds like we are both 12, partner sounds like we have a same sex union and anything else (lover, manfriend whatever) sounds sleazy. I get annoyed when my boyfriend calls me his wife, as I'm not. At least hubby is straightforward…
  • Wow, what a fantastic transformation well done! Also, congratulations on the work you do with the kids graduating, its really nice to read about! I wish you all the happiness in the world.
  • I tried going gluten and dairy free at the same time for a month and it cleared up huge stomach issues for me. I re-introduced both, sadly with poor results, so will be going back to going without asap. It seems to be much worse in Europe - it's almost impossible to be vegetarian and gluten/dairy free and its very…
  • Wow, so happy that it finally worked out and glad that the advice I gave was helpful. Good luck for your new life together!
  • Wow, what an incredible difference. Well done!
  • My son is 12 and the girls in his class are wearing all kinds of stuff. Personally I think by forbidding it you just make it worse, so I am quite permissive, also with regard to bedtimes etc. As regards the heels - they are only shoes, she will learn that they are uncomfortable. I think your rules for shorts and midriff…
  • Taking it one day at a time like they do in AA... don't think about tomorrow and don't think about yesterday. Concentrate on making choices just for today and make them good ones (regardless of which plan you subscribe to).
  • Hmm, I wonder if anyone recognises that being obese is also an 'eating disorder' in that you don't get to be in that situation by having a healthy relationship with food. Yes, if you are anorexic it ISN"T recommended to track food obsessively so sites like MFP should be a definite no, especially if the anorexic in question…
  • Hello Georgia, You can do it! One day at a time, move every day, think about what you put in your mouth, log absolutely everything and the stretch marks will fade with time. Be sure to drink enough water and consume enough healthy fats for your skin. You are young enough for your skin to recover if you lose the weight now.…
  • Newly vegetarian (again!) and leaning toward vegan. I like meat but it doesn't seem to like me - IBS issues etc plus I notice by cutting dairy etc I find it much easier to lose weight. Going to check out veganeasy.org! Thanks!

  • Yes! I agree with this too! Not all solutions work for all people.
  • Eat More to Weigh Less did not work for me. I am currently on 1200 and am losing steadily but I have also become vegan and removed any processed food from my diet. Not sure if it's the 1200 or the taking other stuff out. I was on 1500 before and not losing anything. I still have 40 lb to go to my goal. Basically, imo, if…
  • I use the powder. Apparently to juice wheatgrass itself you need a masticating juicer ...
  • I mostly used very basic recipes as I found the more exciting the recipes got they got the less I liked them. I put an apple with everything. Some recipes I have enjoyed: carrot, apple & ginger lettuce, parslley & apple beet, beet greens & apple (is a bit earthy tasting) carrot, spinach and apple pear and lettuce melon…
  • Make your own yoghurt, you can buy a yoghurt maker that contains a litre tub - you use UHT milk, a bit of milk powder and some bought yoghurt to start you off and it works out considerably cheaper. Look up 'making yoghurt at home' on google. You don't even need the maker, you can do it in your oven if it has a very low…
  • I just did a juice fast (juicing fruit and vegetables in a juicer - not buying the juice ready made). There were a number of changes: 1. I hit all my targets for vitamins and minerals. 2. I hit my targets for iron which is almost impossible for me. 3. My hair is more shiny and my skin condition (rosacea) has cleared up. I…
  • Dude, my son thinks you are so cool cos of the dubstep stuff ;) I like dubstep too but apparently there are not many moms who do :)
  • I like : 250 ml almond milk (or soy or normal if you like) 1 tblsp sesame paste (tahini) 1 tblsp honey 1 tblsp cocoa powder 1/2 frozen banana (or a whole one) Tastes awesome - best double thick chocolate shake ever ..
  • IMO if you have a lot to lose and have lost it and regained it there are probably issues other than calorie control that are motivating you. I lost about 40 kilos five years ago and gained about 12 back, mostly due to depression. The reasons for gaining weight are much more complicated than just putting the food in your…
  • I am with this poster. I tried upping my calories and for me it didn't work, but each to their own etc. Just be aware that sometimes it doesn't work for whatever reason.
