  • I didn't say anything that would disagree your statements above. Feel free to quote me where I said androgen excess was *not* associated with insulin resistance and an increased risk for developing diabetes.
  • Okay, not all that embarassed. I distinctly remember being uncharacteristically flustered upon meeting Mr. Steele in person waaaay back in the day. Not being able to form a coherent string of multi-syllabic words to Mr. Steele, who was disarmingly polite and gracious to his fans, *WAS* embarassing. :blushing:
  • I'm rather embarassed that I caught that goth/doom metal reference immediately. Mmmmmm, Peter Steele. Mmm, mmm, mmmmmm... Oh, uh, what were we talking about again???
  • Awwww... :flowerforyou: for  :brokenheart: runner dude!
  • Not to be weird, weejo72, but we are so very totally twins - bangs, smirk & all! It's almost-but-not-quite freaking me out! Wish I had better selfies. :drinker:
  • Anybody ever see "The People of Walmart" website? I'm totally thinking we need a "The People at My Gym" version! I don't know why I so desperately want to see (safe) images of all these shenanigans. I hope that doesn't make *me* weird. (Prolly.)
  • Just wanted to mention to the OP that I was tested via ultrasound after consultation with my OB/GYN. I was imaged in a prenatal ultrasound room and it was kinda peaceful. (Nothing like what I was expecting... I had so much anxiety by the time I finally got tested that I think I was expecting something out of a torture…
  • Well, this may not be true for *your* individual situation, FatFreeFrolic. Generally, PCOS + IR women don't require such severe calorie restriction to see weight loss. It sounds like you have a pretty serious degree of insulin resistance, and I definitely do not envy you. Sub-800 calories has gotta be really, really tough.…
  • Agreed on all points up ^^^ there, AlbertaBeefy. Thanks for the response. I think we are actually on the same wavelength now. Or darn close! Edited to add: As you probably figured out, I don't support all weight loss plans. In fact, I only support very few... as you pointed out, it has a lot to do with glycemic control.…
  • PaleoPath4Lyf, you don't need to be disrespectful. Your quote "Your not an Endocrinologist so stop trying to simplify what you have no clue about" is a prime example. People do not have to have a MD/DO degree in order to be well informed regarding medical topics or to discuss them here in a public forum. The forums aren't…
  • Ooooh, good point! Actually, he/she/they sound pretty smart, regardless of the chromosomal arrangement going on there!
  • Ya know what would have been funnier??? If he really *did* have earbuds in and was practicing for an actual performance and *I* was the crazy gym lady playing my invisible violin at him! (And yes, I checked for earphones and sheet music more than once. I'm not crazy, at least not in that instance.) The "conductor" made my…
  • I soooo love that. It's not like you're gonna fall off or get hit by a truck. Why not?!?
  • Actually, I understand this condition rather well. I have a degree in healthcare (nursing, not MD), and since I also have this condition, I studied it at length for my own personal education. And in regards to the statement "not all overweight people are diabetics"... That's true! But not all PCOS women are either. I…
  • As I understand it, one of the primary culprits behind weight loss difficulties for PCOS women is the underlying insulin resistance. That's not unique to PCOS. What works for "not normal" PCOS women works for just about all "normal" overweight people.
  • I'd like to think he was always hearing the most amazing symphonies... and we were the ones actually missing out! :flowerforyou:
  • You're here - that's a start! Maybe consider "going public" and posting some new goals here or in your profile. Friending people helps! Also consider joining some groups & challenges here on MFP. It's not all about the diet - you can find friends, share interests, discover some new diet/fitness/lifestyle approaches, and…
  • No need to feel guilty! Rest is just as crucial for the body as the workout! :flowerforyou: http://sportsmedicine.about.com/od/sampleworkouts/a/RestandRecovery.htm http://www.active.com/running/articles/what-to-do-on-rest-and-recovery-days
  • Most days I wear above-the-knee length dresses and heels. I've been told I dress on the more formal end of the scale at work, but the dresses are just so amazingly comfortable. And I can go from work to shopping to cocktails... even to a funeral... at a moment's notice.
  • I don't really see much advantage to working out 7 days/week. I believe in diminishing returns after a point... I usually alternate workout days (4x/week) and rest days (3x/week). It's okay if rest days are "active" - doing easy activities like walking, yoga, etc. I'm also way more active in the summer vs winter and I have…
  • I have PCOS. If there's a "normal" for PCOS, I was probably it. I had many of the classic symptoms. My diagnosis was confirmed via ultrasound. I agree that it's just tougher to lose weight with PCOS, but there's nothing truly unique as far as our weight loss objectives & methods go. We just have to work a bit harder and…

  • Mmmmm, hummmmmmus.... Just remembered you can make burritos, tacos & quesadillas with beans, cheeses, veggies, salsa or guac... You can do breakfast for lunch (loaded oatmeal; bagel & cream cheese; an egg & cheese muffin or frittata wedge (if eggs are ok); yogurt, fruit & granola; toaster waffles topped w/fruit,…
  • Years ago, I repeatedly encountered a strange, seemingly harmless man walking on the treadmill while very passionately conducting his invisible orchestra. There wasn’t any music playing (no radio, no earbuds). Occasionally he would mutter or point his invisible baton at other people (real or imaginary) to cue them. I don't…
  • Ooh, thankfully breakfast and lunch are the easiest to "go veg"... there are tons of meat-free sandwich, panini, and wrap options out there... (borrow a page from the veg playbook at places like panera, which-wich, subway...) And ya don't have to replace the meat with cheese (trust me, there is such a thing as too much…
  • First off, nursing student?!?! You go, girl!!!! I looked at your food and exercise logs. I don't have much to say about your food intake. I think it looks pretty good. So, I'd suggest increasing your exercise... 1) Can you double your cardio? (I know your free time is basically non-existent right now, but if you have the…
  • Keeping up with logging on MFP will help greatly with long-term compliance & success! I got into trouble when I stopped being accountable for my food and exercise... I burned out on logging around year 4 (back then it was on paper, thank heavens for apps like MFP). Thankfully, weight doesn't magically return overnight...…
  • Not riled up here either. I just don't see the misunderstanding you are referring to... Some folks have pointed out the whole causation/correlation fallacy, and few have concurred with the article. Next, we have a little sarcasm, a little Daily Mail "love", some tired old knee jokes, and the obligatory "running's for…
  • I'm approaching my 10-year anniversary of losing over 100 lbs. I initially lost over 120 lbs, but slowly gained back 35 over the years. (I restarted calorie counting in December, trying to get back down.) I thought the initial dieting would be the hardest part, but it's really the maintenance that's the real challenge.…
  • Thanks for the weak attempt to insult people's intelligence on this thread. That was so very considerate. And works wonders when trying to convey your point to the group... We did read it. We did comprehend it. We also "get" that the vast majority of the running population (99.99...) isn't high mileage, so the article is…
