Welcome! Keep checking in here and let us know how you are doing. What's working for you and what isn't. This board and my various magazines are what keeps me motivated. Well, that and the looks I get from my husband. ;-)

Haven't tried much else other than the Jarrow Whey Powder and Cliff Builder, Pure Protein or Power Bar as yet. I'm finding that I really prefer to have a Protein Bar after my workout... and then supplement with the Powder only if I am not getting enough protein at the end of the day.

I lift weights 6 days a week. And I do core exercises 6 days a week. If I have time for only one area to work, I work the core. That's how important it is to me. The core protects our spine and all the major joints coming off the spine as well as impact the secondary joints. Many of my knee issues were resolved with core…

I agree... since you are only doing dumbbells at this stage, gloves are fine. Once you get into the barbells - or dumbbells of such a weight that your hands are giving out before your larger muscles - look at lifting straps. I highly recommend something washable. They get stinky.

Just for clarification... Horizontal Chin Ups are the polar opposite of push-ups... not vertical chin ups. Here is an example of Horizontal Chin Ups: http://www.coopersguns.com/videos/exercise-encyclopedia/teres/horizontal-pull-up/ Notice that the movement looks exactly opposite of a push up especially because his feet are…

I have been using the Jarrow Whey Protein. It's all natural, no added hormones, no artificial colors or flavors. And it's affordable at vitacost.com. Whey digests easier and more readily than soy. The "soy being better absorbed by women" idea is a marketing gimmick. Soy does have nominal amounts of estrogen in it which is…

Does anyone vouch for this mag? I get really suspicious when I see 5 out of the 6 covers that are displayed screaming the same exact thing: How to get flat abs! Ugh.

I take a liquid B-12 in the morning added to my workout drink. I am going to start taking a B-complex in the evening as well. It makes a HUGE difference in my energy levels... along with the cocoa/cinnamon/matcha drink I use as a coffee substitute.

I have my ticker set to show a gain in weight... since my goal is to put on more muscle. You can set this in the ticker settings. I have a thread running in the Fitness Folder for women weightlifters if you are interested in getting some tips on adding muscle. Good luck with your goals.

I have only tried the Jarrow Whey Protein (filtered) formula so far. It seems to work fine even with my lactose intolerance. I bulk order it through Vitacost... so I still have 6lbs of it to go through. I may try a pound of the Dynamix when I get a chance to visit the store... we're snowed in right now in New England.…

I like to do most of my Bosu exercises with the squishy part down. Warning: Some of these are considered advanced exercises and you should get someone to help you with them who knows how to do them safely. 1) Push ups with the round part down and my hands on the edges. Usually also have my feet up on something above my…

When my kids were little and I missed a workout, I would put them in the double stroller and go for a fast paced walk. If I couldn't walk outdoors because of the weather, I would go to the local mall and do laps there. The deal with the kids was that if they behaved during my walk, we would go to a movie or a romper gym…

The monitor uses electrical impulses (bioelectrical impedance) to measure body fat. You have to use it the same way you do a scale... first thing in the morning before eating/drinking and exercise.

Girl... you ROCK! What an inspiration. Keep it going!

I got a cool present from Santa today... a body fat monitor. The same kind I have been using to monitor my fat percentage in the past... so it should stay consistent. Took a measurement today... I was curious since I put on 2 pounds over the past month. It displayed a loss of .3% body fat. This makes sense because I have…

I wash it ever other day and rinse it thoroughly on the days I dont wash it. If I simply have to wash it again on a nonwash day. I use 1/3 the amount of shampoo I usually use, focus it on the scalp, and rinse quickly. In the summer, i often shower twice a day. So shampooing every other day keeps it from getting too dry.

Research refutes your point. Studies have shown that the current international recommendations for protein levels are insufficient for people who are exercising intensely - not just professional athletes. "It seems reasonable to conclude that the lowered rate of whole-body and perhaps muscle protein turnover that appears…

A drink a day is supposed to increase your HDL's (good cholesterol). However, do NOT drink your alcohol right after working out. It drops your whole body lipid oxidation (a measure of how much fat your body is burning) by up to 73%. So let some hours pass after your workout... when your body is still burning fat from the…

If your cardio is not too intense (ie. something you do regularly and isn't stepping up the pace in training for an event) then the only thing you need to replace is your glycogen. You can get this with a simple glass of juice or other high carbohydrate drink or food. Although, adding fructose to a post workout protein…

One of the reasons why so many women crave Chocolate may be due to the fact that Dark Cocoa is high in iron. TOM is notorious for causing temporary anemia in some women. Here are some suggestions: 1) If you have to eat chocolate, eat DARK chocolate... as dark as you can get it. Dark chocolate doesn't require as large a…

I don't see any problem with letting them know what you do to earn your weight loss. As someone here suggested, print out a sample of your daily intake. Let them see that you don't cheat. And offer to take them to the gym with you to witness the workout and feel how hard it is. They may not be willing to accept it... but…

I would also suggest that you not allow your arms to fully extend to the locked position. When you lower your weights to the "palm out" position, keep a very slight bend in your elbows. I would give your arms some time to heal. You shouldnt be training sore muscles anyway. But one thing to keep in mind is that standing…

I put my whey protein in light soy milk. If you can do fat free milk then you are likely not lactose intolerant and it shouldnt be an issue.

Has anyone here had any experience with Dymatize All Natural Elite Whey Protein Isolate? I currently use Jarrow for my Whey Protein... but it's not an isolate. I was thinking of going with Dymatize because it is an isolate, higher in protein and calcium per serving and claims to have an award winning taste. Anyone?

I happen to be Lactose Intolerant as well. Amazing how painful that can be. I use Jarrow Whey Protein. It is all natural. However, it is NOT an Isolate. It IS filtered and that does remove most of the lactose. I can handle it as long as I am properly hydrated. If even small amounts of Lactose are a problem, try Dymatize…

May I ask what research has lead you to the summation that Food Based Protein is more easily digested than a supplement like Whey Protein Isolate? The food that rates the highest on the BV scale (measures the amount of protein - or more precisely, the nitrogen - retained in the human body per gram of protein absorbed) is a…

AWESOME workout today! I ripped my obliques to shreds. I am so going to pay for this tomorrow. Best compliment of the week: "Girl, you GOTTA wear short sleeve shirts... you don't have a concealed carry permit for them guns!" LOL!

Ok... so I will step in from the perspective of the Employer. I have owned a growing company for 11 years now. We are constantly hiring. However, our payscale is low but our schedules are flexible (we have professional actors, performers, archeologists, etc on staff who need time off to pursue their "other" job). Here is…

I haven't experienced any issues with the men. In fact, our biggest lifter in the gym, Scott - 6' 6" and about 270lbs of solid muscle, asks me to spot him on his 3 rep max bench press. That's 400 lbs! The other guys see this and figure that if Scott trusts me to spot him, they can too. So some of the more serious lifters…

Speaking for myself, I am inspired by women of all shapes and sizes in the weight lifting area. Most of them are stepping outside of their comfort zone to do weight lifting... because they have been told or discovered that it is good for them. That is NOT an easy task. Especially if you have a bunch of muscle bound people…
