My lack of consistency due to live events or any other excuse I've come up with. I always reach roughly 10-12% BF and balloon back up.

This. The machines should have demonstrations on them as far as how to utilize them. Start off slow and feel the muscle(s) work, rather than going through the motions :)

General rule of thumb that I follow.... Calories in > Calories out = Gain weight Calories out > Calories in = Lose weight
