  • I have been pretty active on MFP for over a year (less so for the year prior). At one point I had lost a net of 7 lbs - got down to 193 I think - that was at 1410 per day (MFP suggested for 1 lbs/week at lightly active). I lost very inconsistently though. As for weighing - I use a digital scale and try to use grams as…
  • Ok guys, I will rachet down with my logging (I am very good about weighing and measuring) but SLLRunner brings up a great point about the quality of the MFP entries. I am still concerned that I do not know how to calculate what I am actually burning and calibrate my caloric intake to make weight loss happen on a somewhat…
  • Thanks everyone. The good chunk of weight I lost (from my highest of 217) was following surgery 2 years ago. I was hospitalized for 3 weeks and lost 15 lbs. In the last year, I have basically gained and lost the same 3 lbs. I will lose a lb or two, then it will come back, then I will lose 2, and one will come back, but I…
  • I pinned this recipe, but haven't made it yet (was waiting for peach season). The blogger makes them for her kids and freezes them: http://foodformyfamily.com/recipes/quick-school-lunch-tip-peach-freezer-smoothies
  • I have 4 kids and a full-time job and all the stuff that comes with that - so I understand hectic. I am not really a morning person myself, but that is the only time where I don't have any other responsibilities and no one needs me. So I get up at 5 nearly every day, hit the gym for an hour, then come home as everyone else…
  • A margarita. And turkey tacos (gotta have some protein. But really looking forward to the margarita....
  • I have had no luck on the scale in a LONG time :-( - but yesterday I ran 2 miles in 28 minutes without stopping! Yeah! I am getting stronger from weight training and I can keep up with my boot camp class!
  • When I had these in the past, what helped was staying very well hydrated, eating a banana before bed, and getting in some really good calf stretches before bed.
  • Steam snap peas - squeeze some lemon juice on top (even a tiny sliver of butter if you have the calories) and top with toasted sliced almonds. Yum! Roast them - slice into even chunks - toss with just a hint of olive oil (or spray with a light mist), season to taste and roast at 400. Zucchini and asparagus are awesome this…
  • I have used it in baking in place of regular oil - turned out well. Definitely a great moisturizer. My son has terrible allergies and his face gets chapped in the spring. I rub it right on his face and it clears it right up without any burning. A friend made lipgloss out of coconut oil and crayons!
  • Hi - fellow working mom of twins here so I feel for you! I often gain weight when I up my exercise due to my muscles retaining water. Or if I eat a lot of sodium. Keep drinking lots of water and see if it does not come off in a few days. Might it also be TOM? I can retain water then, too. Hang in there - no way you gained…
  • I think a pint of Woodpecker is only 200 calories. I would plan that into my day and just enjoy one. (But I love cider) In a bottle (12 oz) - it is only 150 calories! Otherwise, I like flavored vodka (raspberry, mmmm) with club soda and lime over ice - for 70 calories.
  • I always feel better if I take a brisk walk after a leg day - it seems to loosen things up. So maybe go ahead and do something the next day, but it doesn't have to be full out intensity always.
  • Yeah I am thinking chicken tikka or tandoori shrimp, definitely skip the naan and the papadum. It will depend on how the recipe prepares it, but Mulligatawny soup is quite delicious and filling (made with lentils and chicken stock, I believe). Ask them if they add cream though.
  • I would log what you ate - so yes 1.5 oz.
  • If they are coming from dairy and fruit, I would not be too worried. If they are coming from mostly junk food or added sugar then you might want to cut back. You can also try to choose lower sugar fruits like berries vs. bananas. When I am trying, I am able to keep within sugar pretty easily, but only because I eat very…
  • I think the flavor is good, but the texture if a bit sticky and offputting for me (Laffy Taffy as someone mentioned or the original Power Bars) - but great macros. Another bar I are ThinkThin bars - they have 20 grams of protein per bar and are extremely filling IMHO. I like their chunky peanut butter flavor.
  • http://www.melskitchencafe.com/2008/05/tender-grilled-salmon.html Another great salmon dish - Teriyaki. Mix 6 tablespoons teriyaki sauce with a tablespoon or two of brown sugar. Brush olive oil on both sides of salmon filets and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Sear in a hot pan for 3 mintues per side (longer if very thick).…
  • We have tacos quite frequently at our house. We use lean ground turkey (93/7) brown it and drain it - then add salsa instead of taco seasonings. Sometimes I will add chili beans (pinto beans) to stretch it out. Adults eat it as a salad over lettuce, diced tomatoes, with a sprinkle of reduced fat cheese and a few crushed…
  • I like dance music because it is the right tempo - anything you would want to get up and dance to. If you have a smartphone - try the Iheartradio app and the Spincycle channel - its all remixes of dance music. One of my favorite motivational songs is Calvin Harris/Neyo Let's Go!
  • For me, the feelings of impending period are the same as early pregnancy - tender boobs, a little crampy and bloated, etc. With my pregnancies - I quickly had smell aversions to things I normally liked and was insanely tired (like fall asleep on the couch at 5 pm). Get a test - first thing in the morning is best as the…
  • Not in the same boat (mom of 4) - but I once was. I lost 30 lbs in 2003 and got pregnant with my first child who is now 9. I kept an Anne Geddes calendar on my desk as inspiration (those cute babies dressed like flowers, etc.). Losing weight will often help with ovulation and hormone regulation - plus it is way easier to…
  • Definitely sleep - up at 5. Spending $ - I have invested in personal training sessions for strength training Free time in the evenings - not much time between when the kids go to bed and I have to go to bed. But since I joined my gym - I have never missed a workout!
  • I have 4 kids and a FT job (though my kids are a little older). I plan our meals for the whole month in one sitting, then shop each week and cook 6 meals. I use my crockpot a lot, I keep meals simple, I prep or cook on the weekends whenever possible. I get up at 5 M/W/F and hit the gym for an hour before the kids are all…
  • Boneless skinless breasts cooked with a large jar of salsa verde - so easy but so good! (6-8 hours on low)
  • Absolutely get her involved. I make lunches for 4 kids - often it is not very inspired, but they eat it (and it is much better than our cafeteria food). At the start of school, we sat down and made a list of all the things they like to eat. I occasionally throw something new in there to see what they think. I do use a…
  • I'm on every day. I log everything (save for the occasional rebellious weekend). Feel free to add.
  • Thanks everyone. My PCP has run blood work as even she thinks it is not right that I have not been losing. Everything was normal. I do eat back exercise calories now (I use a Polar HRM to log calories burned from all my workouts) - and looking back over this past month - I tend to eat most if not all of them. I rarely go…
  • Most of the weight loss came in the first few months (fall of 2012), but since then it seems to bounce around and I haven't seen any real net losses. I have made great strides in behavior and lifestyle, but not on the scale. I clearly am not doing something right. 1400 calories a day must be too much for me? How do I…
  • I do use a digital food scale for things like meat, carbs, cooked veggies. I use a spoon for salad dressing, cheese (like Parmesan), oil. I do have to estimate if I eat out - but I overestimate and I eat out infrequently. I have been between 194 and 197 for the past year. I've gotten as low as 192.5 This may sound crazy,…
