Thanks for the thoughts everyone. Maybe I will mix it up more. Recently, I've been using the life fitness elliptical at the gym at a resistance of 19 and a pace of 4.5 or so. I may try to drop the resistance more and to go for a pace of 6 or so some days. I haven't had any joint issues yet, but I can see how doing a bit…

According to my heart rate monitor, the heart rate is about the same so I don't think it really has an impact on calorie burn. I know some people disagree with using heart rate to determine calorie burn, but I like to use it to track effort and think it is better than using the machine or distance.

I mainly just do it for the calorie deficit. When I lost weight previously (a few years ago), I noticed I would generally be a lot faster than I am now, but must have been at a lower resistance level but the machines are a little different as well. Now, I generally use a higher resistance which causes me to go at a much…

I use the h7 strap and polar beat on my phone. Works well for me and is cheap.

I use the polar H7 strap and pair it with the polar beat app and the MapMyFitness app which syncs to mfp. I got mine for $45 new on eBay and the apps are free. I use both just to see how they compare with each other. They are usually fairly close though. Cheap and works well. The Polar Beat app has a better visual than the…

I have a lot of franks red hot. I put that *kitten* on everything. I know it has a lot of sodium, but I drink a lot of water to counter balance it and am not too worried about sodium myself. It saves me a lot of calories I would otherwise consume with other sauces.

I second getting experience with the bike to run transition. I did one and it was a lot of fun. I didn't train much for the swim and did not do very well in that part, but I spent a lot of time training on the bike and going straight to the run. It seemed to work out well for me. If you are trying to get a good time, I…

For me, the more I work out, the more I need to sleep. Sleep seems to impact me more than the food intake does from what I have noticed. I'm sure it is different for everyone though.

Just tried one for the first time at my hotel today. Fun piece of equipment but it is a bit spendy. I think there is a group on here if you search. Not sure how much activity or users are in the group though. Enjoy!

I would recommend running with adding hills in and practicing burpees if you are just trying to get through it. If trying to do well, I would run hills and build upper body strength as well. Have fun!

Do what works for you. Some have issues with restless legs or trouble falling asleep, but I find it actually helps me sleep. There is no bad time of day to exercise in my opinion.
-
IMO, it depends on who you are. I need to workout to eat some of the things I still want to eat and to do some social activities. I could always just avoid consuming some things, but find it easier to work out at times as well. As said before, you can do everything with just diet, but it can be hard to out exercise a bad…

As suggested, eat at a defect and add in exercise similar to what you would be required to do if you enlist. That would be my plan anyways.

I can't see any benefits aside from knowing how much your weight can fluctuate in a day. I do once a week myself but do it as much as you want if you like.
-
If the OP is eating around her recommended calories and is working out 5hrs/week, I don't see it as a bad thing. It isn't like she is working out several hours a day at that calorie level. As long as she feels fine, I don't see an issue.

I'm just not sure you would get much out of a 30 minute session when they need to learn about your goals and what you are currently doing. Many gym's offer a free 1hr session with the hopes of signing people up. Not sure how it works there though.
-
I'm not sure what the personal trainer would be able to do for you in a 30 minute session aside from go over your goals and try to sell you on them having a plan that would work to meet your goals. I'm sure it would be good to get them to look at your form, but at the end of the day, their goal is really to sell you on…

Eat whatever you need to without going over your goal (exercise calories included). Some days I will do an hour on the elliptical in the morning and hit up spin class at night. Just because I work out more, doesn't necessarily mean I will eat more if I am not hungry. Everyone has their own preference of how much of their…

I don't think a walk in the morning should matter either, unless you are sore from it the remainder of the day and all night. If that is the case, maybe you would be better off walking twice for less time with a break.

I prefer fasted. I usually wait a bit after to eat as well.
-
Just drink a lot of water. I don't really care about my sodium levels, but I drink a lot of water too. I wouldn't be worried at all being a few hundred mg over-even if it was every day.
-
I don't use it, but my friend likes the cheap stuff from walmart. Says it works well.
-
Assuming you are looking to get them-eat less.
-
Just estimate what % of it you ate. If you ate 3/4 of 8oz, just do 8oz and 3/4th of a serving.
-
Did you change the settings to put in your info? Seems a little high to me though. My watch always seemed fairly accurate but I have a basic watch.
-
I throw zero calorie hot sauce on (franks original or Valentina). I put that *kitten* on everything!
-
Do a search on here. There was a thread a few days ago about the bikes and I believe a few people posted on there.

I would just go find a pair that feel comfortable to you. If you are just walking, that is most important. I like New Balance shoes, but everyone has their preference. I would just go to a place and try on several different pairs until you find a shoe you like. Just stay away from the generic brands as the wear out quick.
-
Just depends o what you would use. I had a home gym with a treadmill, elliptical, bike, free weights and squat/bench rack, but found I didn't use it all. I would just get what you think you will use.
