My sister loves rats and used to have them. She stopped because they kept dying and she couldn't handle the grief.

If you have a savings account started already, as you accumulate money in it, check with your bank regarding investment accounts. Often there are 6-month accounts or other short term accounts that give you quite good returns on your money, rather than just sitting in a savings account. You'll have to be patient and wait…

However, OP, looking at your profile, I'm led to ask, perhaps she's put off because you are in very good shape and she is concerned you are worrying overmuch about eating a bit of jam? I do understand that SAD is a legitimate condition, but it does not have an effect of weight gain. Only eating excess calories does that,…

As a mother of adult children, if my children were staying with me for a short time, I guess I wouldn't protest about putting a jar of jam in the cupboard if they asked me. It's not that big of a deal. We all talk about not having our temptations in our own house, and this is her mother we are talking about. I love my…

It isn't a certainty in every case - it is still very much in research stage.

While it is true that there are some autoimmune diseases that have been attributed to increased intestinal permeability (Crohn's disease, Celiac disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, and Irritable Bowel Disease) , some questionable sites on the internet such as the one you have linked here have taken the…

@_Captivated_ , the first dog in my post is gone too. I'm sorry for your loss. It's hard to lose our family members.

Thank you, @blankiefinder and @rabbitjb ! I am proud to have you both as friends and you both inspire me as well. :)

In my early 20s I started to have back problems. It was diagnosed as bulging disks that were pressing on my nerves and causing sciatica and other pain. They bothered me off and on throughout my 20s, where sometimes I was able to exercise and other times I would have to take time off - I referred to it as 'my back went…

that's a tough one, I do commiserate. you gotta do what you gotta do! if you can, get a good digital food scale that has a tare feature and measures in both grams and ounces. There are multiple options on Amazon.

It is actually a real word. It isn't supposed to be used to make people feel stupid; if someone does use it that way then they are being rude and shouldn't do so. Typically it is used to mean that a particular plan that someone talking about, like the fad cleanse or detox of the moment, is not something that is going to…

The few phrases I've bolded - those are all things that I was talking about when said this: If you are feeling like your SO isn't supportive of your weight loss efforts, your first move should be to sit down and have a discussion. But if that isn't working, if that isn't the kind of support you are getting, you have to…

I am not saying that this is something anyone should do. It's just something that was trialed - and they didn't even reveal which kind of rice they used. To only save 10% of your calories by doing this is hardly worth all of the extra effort, and waiting 12 hours for the rice to cool, as well as not knowing if reheating…

I may not have an MD after my name but I do have several other letters. And 10+ years of medical experience with additional schooling and research. Which I am more than happy to share.

these points - I am a bit confused as to why you seem to think people are arguing against them. The point has been made multiple times that if medical conditions are uncontrolled, weight loss through the calorie deficit is much more difficult, and that those conditions can often affect weight in adverse ways.
-
For one thing, the scenario you point out - if a couple of hundred calories is going to bring insulin resistance into the picture and stress the body - then there is a medical condition which isn't control. I said previously that weight loss can be achieved with a calorie deficit when any of possible medical conditions are…

I'd go with the weight lifting if I were you, also. It's not nearly as time consuming, and you'll likely be much more pleased with the results. Start with your body weight and work up to heavy weights. You will be pleased with the results. As far as weight loss - yes, no exercise is necessary. You just need to eat in a…

I am not expressing a belief in my own expertise; I am quite confident in my experience and knowledge base, which are the building blocks of my expertise. Those are two very different things.

Many people do not do that because they might not have access to affordable medical insurance coverage, and can not afford to do so. One hopes that people will begin to realize that, now that the ACA has at least made some form of coverage available for everyone, that more people will take the responsibility for their own…

As I had said in previous posts to others - CICO works when the medical condition is under control. If your blood sugar is this low even with the amount of carbs you say you are consuming, then your condition is not under control, and you need to work more closely with your doctor to ensure that it is before you attempt to…

I think a reasonable discussion includes honest, affable exchange of information. That's what I'm trying to do. I'd appreciate the same, not blasting me with accusations. I am not being egotistical in any way; I have years of medical experience and research experience to back up everything that I said. I do understand the…

that's the problem when people aren't counting calories. When estimating happens, they're often wildly inaccurate. If numbers are off like this across the board, it's obvious that numbers are not nearly as high as estimated, hence the calorie deficit and weight loss.
-
As long as you're in a calorie deficit, it works. Now do low carb and eat in a surplus.

The hypothyroidism is not what leads to major weight gain. Making the decision to eat more when you have symptoms like dizziness, lack of energy, etc, is a conscious one. It is what the person did rather than, going to the doctor with that list of symptoms and determining the cause and then getting the medical condition…

Your first article is far too old to have any validity in the current medical forum. Your second article is discussing the practicality of using antioxidant vitamins in patients suffering DKA events to prevent cognitive loss due to the damage from the oxidation process of the release of fatty acids from adipose tissue.…

This is really the heart of the matter - every medical condition can have an effect on weight loss, if it is not under control. However, it is completely irresponsible for a person with a medical condition to attempt to begin any weight loss while having a medical condition that is out of control. PCOS, Hashimoto's,…

1. I certainly am not calling you a liar. People who are in medically emergent states don't have good recall after the event - that doesn't mean they are lying when they give their imperfect recall of the event, it just means they are wrong. 2. You wouldn't have had a heart attack from the high acid levels, you would have…

Erm. Just because someone doesn't know they are doing something doesn't mean they aren't doing it. Little children running and playing don't know that they are burning calories, but they are still doing that. People who are eating in a calorie deficit but not aware that they are in a deficit are still going to lose weight.…
