I ride a lot - 100-200 miles a week. I usually ride 25-35 miles but have done up to a century (100). It is absolutely 100% not normal for your feet to fall asleep. Unfortunately, it's also REALLY hard to diagnose online, as it could be any number of things. 1. Is your seat too high? Too low? Too far back? Too far forward?…

Well, some of the latest thinking about this problem is that we are all going to do this to some degree or another. It's hard-wired in human beings. BUT: You can cheat the "system." The first step is to not bring calorie-dense but nutrient-poor foods into your house in the first place. You have to start somewhere, so pick…

Steak or chicken fajitas, skip the tortilla, just eat the meat & peppers/onions. Black beans, no rice. They have carbs (40-ish grams per cup) but 12-15 grams of fiber, so they're incredibly useful carbs. Other than that, it's just going to be discipline to not eat all the fried corn or soft white flour everything!

That explains a lot. :)

Every trainer at my gym says that women (generally) neglect triceps and lats, and that's part - not all, but part - of why the wings are there. You have to lose fat the traditional way, but you can shape and fill with legit muscle by doing lat pulls and various tricep lifts. Help mitigate the wing effect. For thighs, I got…

My weirdest NSV is that I can reach every part of myself in the shower, in any direction I bend or twist. I think the last time that was true Reagan was president and I was a teen.

Metabolically, no, bathing in temperatures either way will not affect your internal metabolic rate unless you stayed in the water for a long time, or it was excessively hot or cold. Generally speaking, it's a colossal waste of time. You might get a slight increase or decrease, but not enough to matter. Your time is better…

That happened to me as well, but it seemed to stop when I started drinking a serious amount of water. I do not know if the two are related, but hydration affects skin condition, so maybe?

DIABETICS PLEASE READ: Chobani plain fat-free is NOT sugar free. It has 9 grams of sugar per 8oz serving or 7 grams per 6 ounce cup. http://www.chobani.com/cache/Products/4/source/nutition_0percent_pink.jpg <- from the manufacturer's website. I buy the larger containers which gives data for 8 oz servings and it is 9 grams.…

50% of all comedy is timing. well played. :)

Me. TOO. I love peanut butter so much I would kill fifteen children with a spoon for a good jar. Okay, that's extreme. Thirteen. Just thirteen.

Heh. You edited that into a better version, but yes, that. :)

Where is that from, and is it backed up by any actual peer-reviewed research? I just don't think the human body works that way. Calories and nutrients are broken down and used over a period of time, often multiple days. It's not like your body has its own account at MFP and is all like "Hey that guy just ingested 119…

Anyone who says that is leaving out the important part. Doing *TOO MUCH* cardio with insufficient protein intake will lead to catabolism. The stress response generates hormones. Those hormones suppress protein synthesis and creation of glycogen. Over time, this means you are not storing the energy you need for moving your…

Ahhh...you were right up to that last bit. 1 pound of muscle will take up _less_ physical space (volume) than the equivalent amount of fat. The density means it weighs more in comparable volumes, and that is what people mean when they say it. People who get wound up over that phrase are being just maybe a little overly…

Wow. I mean...wow. That's a hell of a job. Plus, you gave me hope that my bicep tattoo will remain normal when I'm done transforming my flab to rock-hard steel. It does turn to steel, right? I'm not delusional am I? :)

That's the number one, first-step piece of advice I always give, count everything. Your comment is precisely and exactly why. I've had a few people ask me to help them get started, and my first step is always "Change nothing. But for a week straight, write down absolutely every thing you put in your mouth. Every drop of…

There's a lot of misconceptions about caffeine's ability to dehydrate. Yes, on some level it is a diuretic for everyone. HOWEVER: if you regularly consume caffeine, you retain most of the water in whatever drink it is. I'm a nutrition student studying for my DTR, and I actually did a project on hydration. What I discovered…

I did that! :) I wrote it up here: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/215063-near-400-to-220ish . In case that is tl:dr, which I totally think it is and *I* wrote it, the summary is: I lost a whole person and I'm still going. Moral is: You can do this. It's not easy, and it doesn't happen quickly. But you can change…

I wholeheartedly agree. The number one thing that has helped me on this journey is my digital food scale. I have this one: http://www.amazon.com/1130800-Grips-Scale-Pull-Out-Display/dp/B000WJMTNA - a bit more expensive, but I broke 2 of the cheap ones at $20 each, so the third time I thought "Let me just spring for a good…

Thanks. Yeah, I haven't posted much mainly because I hadn't really looked at the forums until recently. Been a member for some time, but i was using Daily Plate (Livestrong.com) for like, 2 years. But they have slowly ruined both that site and the Android app until it is a garbled mess and near to unusable. For a bit I was…

I don't think this is weird at all. One of my NSVs which generates the most pride is that my underwear - formerly all 2X or 3X Hanes Comfort band Boxer Briefs - are now all one of two things: Same brand in a medium, or Old Navy SMALL boxer briefs. Small. ESS-EMM-ALL. The size that comes below medium. SMALL. SMAAAALLLLL!…

Same height too! Same goal, even. I hope to be a nice solid 165 someday, but I will settle for 185, then decide what to do. Short term is just to get to 200. Well, 199. Because that's under 200. And I want to turn 41 saying "Yep. I weigh less than 200 pounds." Again, thanks, and thanks to everyone's great comments. I was…

My first bike was a more upright "hybrid" style. Like a mountain bike but more comfortable, with smooth tires. Straight handlebars, etc. I weighed probably...I'd say 275 when I bought Jasmine. At that weight I had 28mm tires and a bit more padding in the wider saddle, but now I ride 23mm tires inflated to 105psi, lighter…

Thanks all. It's always uplifting to get such great comments! WARNING: This is gonna go long... Couple things people asked: How'd I do it? No secret. You already know. Eat less, move more. At first I didn't care two wet rat's *kitten* about what I ate, just as long as I ate slightly less of it. I ate like your typical…
